Early Friday afternoon, a diver removed a black object from the river and put it in a large plastic tub. The tub was then taken to the police special services underwater recovery team vehicle. A diver then returned to the river.

McCausland said the object was not related to the search for Ayla.

Strange to call a press conference and then announce - nothing. But I have to think maybe after they said there would be a press conference something changed in their strategy so they decided to not hold it. Maybe something more pivotal was learned today and they thought having the press conference would be pointless.

I think we're getting close, not sure why I feel that way but I think too this case will be solved and it will have a sad ending. :(

Trista isn't the one under investigation here, and she is probably going through various stages of grief and denial on any give day, which might explain her ups and downs.

She is in a bizarre public situation, dealing with reporters, LE, and her ex and his family who might be responsible for the loss of her baby daughter. Bless her heart.

I absolutely agree. The sole focus should stay on where is baby Ayla?? And who did what?

To walk a mile in TR's shoes... How can one judge at all? Especially with seeing brief clips, we have no idea what police have prepped her to say ...not to say. Tr has enough on her plate. Lets stick with finding Ayla and those responsible.

What just happened?

Does anyone who feels this case will be solved, think it will be even if Ayla is never found??

:waitasec:
What just happened?

A. Smoke someone out.
B. Something changed at the last moment.
C. Whatever they found really WAS related and they are working on it.
D. We really are in the twilight zone.

I think so. Since the beginning I've had a feeling that this case would be solved. Just a feeling though, nothing to back it up.

now I am leaning towards the object being related to the case and they are on it asap....

I do think it will be solved - and I think they are getting close. I think one of them is going to sing like a canary soon.

I wish I thought so, I get a whole Haleigh Cummings vibe from this case...

I do. The grand jury meets Feb 8th and 9th. The evidenciary standards for indictment are not nearly as exacting as what might be expected at trial. Indictments might loosen some lips. At least that is what I'm hoping. All MOO

how close is this river to the home?
is there any possibilty that they were partying at another home, left the kids alone and she got out on her own?

It's too far for a baby that age to walk at night in the dark. She probably would have frozen to death before she ever got to the water.

Besides, none of that explains her blood in the basement.

The family and girlfriend have to know that whoever talks first will get the best deal. Since the family are so tight, I think the girlfriend is the weak link who will look out for herself and her own child.

But you never know. If there's enough pressure put on the right people, one of the family might crack.

i read the item pulled from the water was a backpack belonging to a hs student from 2006

I think next week something big will come out

Why do I think it will be solved? Because this whole group of people - all of them - reeks of instability. All it will take is one big argument and one of them will spill. Plus, the cops know way more than we do and they are putting down their cards one at a time.

Ayla's nickname is Buggie? That was my baby brother's nickname too.

As the pile of stuffed animals in front of the home where Ayla lived continues to grow, police are holding out hope the toddler known as "Buggie" will be found alive.

Elisha avoided the press today too. She refused to talk with us about what happened that night nearly two months ago. She repeatedly told us "no comment," before putting an infant in a car seat and driving away.

This doesn't really sound like a one of a group of people ready to "crack" as it were...I think they are a pretty tough bunch, JMO. If innocent, wouldn't one be compelled, even against advice, to try to tell everyone to keep looking out for Ayla, whenever the media showed up? I don't think I would be able to help it.

Divers find no new clues in search for Ayla Reynolds

"<snip> The dives into the Kennebec River, which was previously searched Jan. 11, and a stream that flows through the city yielded a backpack and a knife, neither of which is connected to Ayla Reynolds' disappearance, Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said. <snip>"

BBM

Grand jury just around the corner. Praying there is a lot more going on in the background that we just aren't privy to.

(ET: story also starts with a map showing proximity of 29 Violette to the Kennebec River and Messalonskee Stream. They drained the Messalonskee last time, so I'm thinking it's more important that they were searching south of the bridge over the Kennebec today. As others have said, though, if she was put in the Kennebec she could be miles downriver now. Unless they have reason to believe she was weighted down? :waitasec: )
