Found Deceased ME - David Breunig, 21, Orono, 26 February 2016

I think this is the trestle they mean: https://goo.gl/maps/agzUhsgpNjn

It looks like there's a walking path beside the tracks that continues onto a walkway on the bridge, and I'm guessing it's a popular shortcut to take, though that is entirely speculation on my part. I can't get a really close look at it but it seems to be in good repair.

This is street view looking toward the trestle from the south side. https://goo.gl/maps/q1cXhL2xnYr

Oh no-train trestle-don't they have wide gaps in them? I don't know much about trains obviously.

Yes ... :(. Plus:

"Breunig was last seen on North Main Avenue in Orono after leaving a gathering of friends on Crosby Street about 11:30 p.m. Friday on his way to meet up with other friends in downtown Orono, said Orono Police Chief Josh Ewing."

BBM.

I'm fairly certain this is the train trestle Mr. Faloon is referring to. David would have been coming from the right hand side of the photo, going to the left in order to get to downtown from where he was last seen (or Crosby Street, where he had been with friends) :(.

So I'm just going to ask, did his friends witness him not get to other side? Is this a guess? How far is downtown from where he was?

And here is view from the north, where David would have started .... Though yet to be confirmed, since no body has been found, this is almost exactly the same scenario as Zachary Marr's case. So very sad ....

Goodness knows I've crossed rivers on trestles like this many times. It's perfectly safe if you're careful...but I guess we have no way of knowing if he was a careful person, or if he was in a hurry and didn't watch his footing, or something.

I just HATE to see this. Why, why, why? Young men and water - not a good mix.

Sure hope DB is chillin somewhere friends.

It could be a guess on the part of his friends, or perhaps David is known to use the train trestle as a shortcut ("Breunig’s father, also named David, said Sunday that David and his brother, Derek, 19, a freshman at Maine Maritime Academy, often socialized in Orono."). Or he could have told someone that was how he was going to get to downtown, too.

It's a 15-minute walk from the location this Bangor Daily News article gives as the residence where David had been to the center of the town of Orono. You still have to cross a bridge, but at least it has a sidewalk on each side:

(UPDATED 6:46 PM EST Feb 29, 2016)

"'We are working on that it was a possibility that he might be in the river,' Justin Faloon, of DEEMI Search & Rescue, said. 'It's still a possibility that he's lost but we're going on the lead that he crossed the train trestle and he never made it to the other side from his friends.'"

BBM :(

Hmmmn. Crossing a train trestle? Sounds like the missing in Boston case regarding Zachary Marr. LE searched surveillance tapes to discover he fell thru the railroad bridge and into the water.

But, I wonder how well you could see in the dark. No full moon that night.

Officials will continue to use aerial teams this week in search efforts.

Monday morning searchers will continue to rely on aircraft.

The warden service does not plan on deploying any ground search teams this week “other than local wardens keeping an eye on areas of the [Penobscot] River during their regular patrols.”

Friend of missing MMA student warns pedestrians to avoid Orono train bridge
A grieving friend of a missing Maine Maritime Academy student has issued a plea for people to stop walking on a railroad bridge that crosses the Stillwater River near where David Breunig was last seen on Feb. 26.

“You think you can never fall,” Jack K. Gilligan of Westbrook wrote in aposting on Facebook this week. “Let me tell you, it can happen to you. If [Breunig], one of the most athletic people I know, can slip and fall, then you can slip and fall. The fall and the river are unforgiving.

So very sad. Once again a young man goes missing and will possibly die from misadventure (for lack of a better word). It's just so tragic. 😢

Still no sign of him?

I'm not finding anything in MSM, but friends are offering condolences to the family as of April 3rd. ..I'm still looking for confirmation. .
