Found Safe ME - Jill Sidebotham, 28, Nicholas Hansen, 38, Lydia Hansen, 2, Camping in Phillips area, overdue from trip, Sanford, 3 July 2022

That's what I was thinking! Who goes camping for 3 weeks, presumably in a tent? With a 2 year old? Even in the best of circumstances? Not me!
LE must be worried if they're using a plane.

Not me either, but I’m distantly acquainted with a few people who do this with toddlers. It’s more of a hippie or off-the-grid lifestyle thing - they like the great outdoors and have the philosophy that “kids join our lives, we don’t join theirs.” If that’s the philosophy here (and we don’t know, to my knowledge), it ceased when Jill didn’t return for her son on the weekend.

Oh my! These comments reflect my exact immediate suspicions. Just from the photos. Good grief. No wonder family and friends are worried. Not looking good. Her family needs some kind of contact…
Yes the comments are quite concerning and I did not have to read too many of them. Hoping they find them soon!

"I just want her home. I want Lydia home. I miss her little voice. I miss her little person running around," Ron Sidebotham said."

"Relatives said it is out of character for Jill Sidebotham to not be in touch with family members this long."

"This is not in her nature to do anything like this. She's never done anything like this," Ron Sidebotham said."

Many people do and many in tents. Tons of people/families camp for weeks on end with children of all ages. That is not the part of this situation that is the concerning part

I love that philosophy.... Why didn't that occur to me years ago?
I'm in the Sanford area tonight and it's a cool 74 degrees, but it's gonna reach highs of 92, 94 and 96 the next 3 days. If they're in a tent at a campground (which I doubt at this rate), I hope they're in the shade by some water.

Oh. I see. Thank you.

You would be surprised by the number of homeless families who have decided to set up camps in the state and national forest’s as opposed to exposing their children to the city. So someone could see them set up in the woods and not think twice.

On Thursday, Sanford Police Lt. Matthew Gagne said Sidebotham, Lydia and Hansen appeared normal in the footage that investigators have seen and the images they have released to the public. He said Sidebotham and Hansen are seen behaving as two parents with a child would be expected to behave.

“It appears that everything is normal,” Gagne said. “Whether or not that’s the case, we don’t know.”

And, Gagne added, the images from the campground and the Walmart are from three weeks ago.

“A lot can happen in three weeks,” he said.

Gagne said, at this moment, authorities do not have a crime to investigate. Sidebotham and Hansen being together, with their child, is not a crime, he noted. It’s the fact that they have not reached out to anyone in the past three weeks that is driving the police’s and family’s efforts to locate them and confirm their well-being.

“That’s the unusual part,” Gagne said.

Family members of missing campers plea: ‘Come home’
New in depth article dated today. Lots of quotes from families of Jill and Nicholas. Article addresses drugs, alcohol and violence. Below is one tidbit that I did not know.

Court records show Hansen previously has been accused of domestic violence assault against Sidebotham, and a protection order that limited contact with her and 2-year-old Lydia expired in June

So a woman and her child vanish without trace taken by her ex with domestic assault history and very recently expired restraining order, preventing him from contacting said woman and her child, and the Police doesn't see a reason to look for them? What are they waiting for, two badly beaten bodies to appear?

Sounds about right!

Sadly there are no federal guidelines on the reporting of missing persons and each agency formulates there own plan of action which as you know in some jurisdictions the investigation into missing/endangered persons is lacking. Generally speaking in my opinion more needs to be done when it comes down to how to report missing/endangered person and the information that is disseminated after one is missing as well as the follow up actions that are taken. We, collectively must do better, if you look at statistical data the amount of missing/endangered is astounding.

This is so sad and concerning I hope they find her and the little one alive and well, but it’s been so long jmoo

Well I think it's been a month now. How depressing is that? I'm in the Sanford area and have been looking for that dang VW Jetta, though I'm not optimistic... I wonder if Maine LE has any license plate reader technology?

Gosh ... I thought sure they would be found by now ... what on earth happened? So difficult for the family. Hoping for an update soon. Moo

The timing of these two things make this very concerning:

1. Hansen received a notice of termination of his parental rights in June

2. Hansen was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence assault and that case is still open. He also was ordered to "engage in regular, individual behavioral health counseling sessions with a licensed provider to address mental health issues." The order expired in June 2022.

This is a recipe for disaster and I cannot for the life of me understand why she would go willingly unless she felt her life or her child’s life were in danger if she did not.

Domestic abusers have a plethora of methods to terrorise their victim's into compliance, especially when there is a child in the picture. So that Hansen did not drag Jill and her daughter kicking and screaming out of the house, does not mean Jill went with him willingly. I am pretty sure she did not.

This. I don't think she went willingly.
"This has very little to do with the baby, he could care less about the baby,' Ron told DailyMail.com. 'It's an obsession with Jill, and he's using the baby against her or as a pawn for it.
'I know him, I know how he is.' "

further..

"Nick also has two children with another woman and does not have custody over them and is not allowed to see them, Jill's family alleged. His sister currently has fully custody and has not heard from Nick in more than three years, Ron told DailyMail.com.

'He is court ordered to stay away from them,' the grandfather said. Jill has custody of Lydia."

QFT.

I totally agree. That's what is and has been extremely worrisome for the entire case.

MOO.
