PRESQUE ISLE, Maine —
Police released new information Monday in their search for two missing boys and said their father is refusing to cooperate with the investigation.
Joel Strother II, 12, and Carter Strother III, 10, might be in North Carolina or South Carolina, police said last week.
Police said Monday they believe the children are traveling in a metallic-colored GMC Terrain with temporary license plates.
The boys have not been seen for a few weeks, according to investigators.
Detective Chris Beck said last week that investigators believe the boys' father, Joel Strother, purchased a new vehicle and took the boys out of state in violation of a custody agreement.
The boys' mother lives in the Presque Isle area, and police said there has been no communication between Joel Strother and the boys' mother.

Investigators suspect the boys are with their aunt, Kimberly McLeod, also known as Kimberly Strother, and her husband, Christopher McLeod. Police said they think Joel Strother is at a separate location and they are hiding the children.
Police said they have received many tips from up and down the East Coast.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the children is asked to call the Presque Isle Police Department at 207-764-4476.
