ME - Lewiston, Mass Shooting, Multiple Scenes, 18 killed *shooter found dead* Oct 2023 #2

Found in a "box trailer", not a dumpster?
Did I hear that right?

He was found in a trailer. The recycling area had been cleared twice before and trailers had been gone through, tractor trailers, on the recycling lot itself. The trailer he was in was in an overflow parking lot which was why it had been missed in two prior look throughs.

They'll be spending the weekend going through the two scenes, bowling alley and bar/pub. They'll also be doing further interviews and finishing up with all the tips from the tip line.

  • #104
They expect to release a lot more information over the next few days since there is no impending trial.

  • #105
He also noted that if you go to the armory, there will be no cameras. No one will be recording you going in, no one will be in the armory taking pictures. This is completely private.

They talk about the note, it was to a loved one, passcode to phone, wasn't a suicide note per se. Bank information, passwords, etc.
There was a firearm in the Subaru. It was a long gun rifle. No word on what weapons were found on RC.
Motive? Clearly a mental health motive, waiting to get access to those records for further information. Based on interviews, there doesn't appear to be any forcible committed mental health treatment for RC, which is why there were no yellow flag or background checks that would have helped prevent this. Only involuntary commitments trigger yellow or red flag laws or affect background checks.

The C family were incredibly cooperative. The first people who identified the shooter were the family members calling LE. The family came forward immediately to identify RC and to help LE.

A call to remember the victims. A thanks to all the help from all the departments from the area, NH State Police, Federal Agencies, FBI, etc.

  • #109
3 people still in critical care. 10 more still healing, doesn't say whether they're in the hospital. No names given out

Found closer to the front of the trailer, same sweatshirt, two firearms found at the scene. Have no idea of when he killed himself.

Why the bowling alley and pub? RC was hearing voices and felt paranoid about what RC felt people were saying about him.
RC had at one time worked at the recycling center.
When did RC die? Don't have that info yet.
A couple of firearms were found with his body. RC was wearing the same sweatshirt on the video. He was found closer to the door of the trailer.
How was RC able to evade police? Not sure, seems that RC planned this.

Was RC playing cornhole at the bar, was there video of this? Can't confirm this. Don't know how often he frequented the bar. There's a connection to those locations. Everybody knows the two locations in town.

  • #113
Did RC case the locations before the shootings? Don't know. They're still working on tracking his Subaru through the town by ring cameras and business cameras.

The yellow law went into effect in 2020 and has been utilized over 80 times. He goes into how it works, the process.
Still looking for a concrete motive, there is a mental health "nexus". Are there other reasons? They don't know yet.

  • #115
They believe he walked from his car to the trailer where he killed himself. There was no other car, bicycle, motorcycle at the scene. The owner of the recycling center was the one who made sure the area was searched.

Autopsy results will answer many of these questions, jmo

Lot of questions about yellow laws, the firearms he was found with, what kind of technology might be used to track his movements. Not a lot of info right now, the scenes are still being processed and the investigation is still in its early stages.

  • #118
From all accounts, it sounds like he headed to the recycling center & shot himself the same night he unloaded on both locations.

There will be no more press briefings. WMTW will have all the information on their website. There will be a vigil tonight.

The lives senselessly lost (listed below) will be remembered forever by their loved ones and their hearts will never truly heal. RC will not be remembered. moo

He will be remembered by his family though, which is also heartbreaking. And I can only imagine what comments/whispers/aggression they will be dealing with from others for a long time. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t feel sorry for Robert at all, but I do feel sorry for his family. I can’t imagine working so hard to get him help to avoid this very thing from happening, and then it happens anyway. They probably felt as if they were screaming into the void.
