GUILTY ME - Michael & Valerie Miller, both 47, murdered, Webster Plantation, 28 Nov 2009

This is an interview with a cousin of the victims.
Two points stick out about her interview.
I don't know what happened here or who is responsible, but it looks like LE will most likely be able to solve this crime.

Webster Plantation Homicide Investigation Continues As Family Member Speaks Out

.........................snip..........................

Rebecca Bickford of Corinth says she was stunned by the news that her cousin Valerie and her husband, Mike, were killed. She says she's also afraid to talk much about how they died, for fear of her family's safety. Bickford says she, and other family members have their suspicions about who may have been involved the killings, but she won't speak publicly about those suspicions until police make an arrest.

......................snip...............................

Bickford says she recognizes the woman in the sketch released by police but can't remember the woman's name. Authorities believe the woman in the sketch was seen at the Miller home the morning their bodies were found.

Maybe LE will make some headway looking into the son's friends:

The idea that carbon monoxide poisoning killed the Millers puzzled White almost immediately.

“If it was that,” he said, “then why didn’t their animals die?”

The Millers have a cat and a dog, he said.

White said he also heard from family members that the Millers “had some problems with” two younger men, including one who is listed as a convicted sex offender. They met the two men through White’s nephew, White said.

“They did have some problems with a couple young guys that my nephew knew. All I know is that my nephew was going to find the young guys,” White said. He identified the men, but their names are being withheld.

Coming from very small communities myself, it doesn't seem that someone wouldn't know something unless it was a random crime....that doesn't seem very likely either, IMO....I just have a gut feeling that Mike & Valerie Miller were targeted and someone went there with specific intent in mind.

So it sounds like one of the sons suspected someone specifically. One of the commentors on the article above claims gunshots were found by the CSI investigators.

Interesting comments on this article. It won't surprise me if it's no coincidence that Matthew has been arrested on another charge just after his parents were found murdered. Just can't figure out how the middle-aged woman with the bifocals factors in here???

WEBSTER PLANTATION, Maine — A Burlington man and former Penobscot Valley High School wrestler was being held without bail Sunday on charges he killed a Webster Plantation couple last month in an apparent robbery gone wrong.

Looks like it was the perp who gave LE the description of the "mysterious woman" seen leaving the Miller's home. Another genious!

Idiot! Did you see the sketch of this supposed woman? Here is the sketch and his pic. Ummm... wouldn't you want to make her not look anything remotely like you?

Ha, he must have thought someone saw him lurking around the house so he had something drawn that resembled him.

The mysterious woman looks like she could be his mom or sister -- or him in drag ... a real case of the 'trying too hard to deflect'.

I'm glad they caught the perps.

Prayers for the family as they try to deal w/ these senseless murders.

An apparent robbery gone wrong? Someone the deceased knew came to steal during the daytime, with a gun (maybe the gun belonged to the deceased?)? Why not go there when the couple wasn't at home? Or under cover of darkness?

Hopefully, LE will release more information about the motive.

[Nathaneal] Nightingale allegedly shot Miller Sr. in the back of the head before turning his revolver on Valerie Miller and shooting her in the temple. Dr. Margaret Greenwald, the state’s chief medical examiner, testified Monday that both Millers died of small-caliber gunshot wounds to their heads.

The motive for the killings, according to prosecutor Benson, was money. Nightingale allegedly ripped Miller Sr.’s wallet from his belt loop and stole a safe from the house when he left.

From September 2011:

Nightingale was indicted in December 2009 by the Penobscot County grand jury on two counts of murder. On May 31, 2011, jurors found him guilty of manslaughter, not murder, in the death of Michael Miller Sr. but found him guilty of intentional or knowing murder for the death of Valerie Miller.

Superior Court Justice William Anderson on Tuesday sentenced Nightingale to 40 years in prison for murder in the death of Valerie Miller. He sentenced Nightingale to 15 years for manslaughter in the slaying of Michael Miller Sr. The judge ordered that the sentences be served at the same time.
