I grew up in the area and have never heard of this case until just now. I wonder where she was last seen, who she was with, if there is even a photo of her, when she was reporting missing. Very odd.

Can somebody with a membership on Ancestry do some sleuthing.

Bumping ... No Photo

Michelle went missing in the same area as Kimberly Moreau, 6 months after her.

Not finding much on ancestry but I'll keep looking

I wonder if she has family in Dixfield/Rumford or if her MA family existed. This one has almost nothing to go off of which is bizarre.

Not sure on the rules on this but when googling, I found her name in an obituary of what is likely her mom (if it’s the same Michelle Jakaitis referenced in it). There appear to be other people named Michelle Jakaitis around the country, although not many, but this obit was someone from a Quincy, MA, different last name, referred to this particular Michelle as deceased (perhaps on assumption or simplicity). Interesting.

I think it would be fine to link the obit. May help someone else around the thread sleuth it out a bit. ETA: Is it this one? I can say that is the woman’s maiden name. I found her on Ancestry and am looking for info on the Michelle in her obit. It could be this Michelle.

In regards to someone’s previous comment, Jakaitis does not seem to be a married name for Michelle if this is her (I assume it is) since some brothers have the same last name. (I agree with you that the mom’s last name is a married name, I had found her maiden name or another last name on something else.)

I couldn’t find a thing on Michelle. But I have a feeling this is her mother. Grace’s maiden name is the R one (I’ll use abbreviations in case we’re wrong) and she was married twice, J then H. Which corresponds with her children’s last names in the obit. G seemed to be pretty well known in her town where she died of cancer. I browsed through her FB to see if she ever mentioned Michelle and didn’t find anything going back a few years.

Like I said, I’m pretty sure this has to be her family but I just couldn’t find anything beyond that. Of course it was late and I was tired. :D

Thanks! Same, I saw some info about the supposed mom. Hmm. These cases without much of anything to go on seem so odd to me. Even modern day cases sometimes seem from the outside like no one is looking but of course there is another whole side and maybe sometimes those people feel like they can’t get the help and attention they want. Cases without a Facebook dedicated to them seems odd nowadays. Not even a photo on this one…makes me curious what info was on the missing persons report. Where exactly was she in Dixfield/Rumford? With who?
There is another Maine case from only December 2005 I’ve been commenting on. The poor guy, Siphat Chau, has crossed my mind many times over the years, but there is almost nothing about him on the internet anymore (news articles have long expired), and he was a college kid. He wasn’t even on the Maine.gov missing persons list these last couple of years at least. Was he ever? He does not seem to have been found. Very, very odd. Makes me wonder if his computer was ever searched, etc. or if it was left behind like his other belongings or not. It’s like the only details out there may lie with friends, family, and whatever may be on file with the state/local police.

And thanks for checking Facebook. I don’t have it so I can never get very far.

I’m happy to help anytime I can! :)

I wish I were comfortable around FOIA requests. I’d see if we could get more information.
