Found Deceased ME-Theo Ferrara, 14, Last seen on Flying Point Rd, Freeport-22 Sept 2022

So many unknowns. Who are his friends? What they saying? What kinds of things was he interested in? Did he just transition into High School from a middle school - that can be rough. Does he know any of the people living in the houses along that area? The flip-flops suggest water/sand might have beeen part of his plan. Was he being teased? This is a tough age under the best of circumstances. What are the family dynamics? Is he a gamer or have an interest in survival shows? Is there a special person in his life? Who does he live with and at what address? What school does he attend? What is the subject matter of his artwork?

Parents say Ferrara is a gifted artist, talented athlete and co-captain of his soccer team.

"Theo is one of the most affectionate, fun loving, wonderful guys,” Leah Gailey, whose son is Ferrara’s friend, said. “Great sense of humor. He is so respected by his peers."

Freeport police say there is nothing definitive as to the reason Ferrara left home.

... Last week, he said detectives had been assigned to interview family and friends of Ferrara, but on Monday, Goodman said they had no strong indication of a triggering event or conflict.

There’s no known evidence of a motive for him to leave, according to Goodman, but police are looking into things like cell phone records.

“Writing subpoenas, writing search warrants, writing anything we need to try to obtain information,” Goodman said.
When I first got the message on FB I thought he'd be found in a few hours. This just boggles my mind. I can't understand going hiking in flip flops and without a phone unless he planned to go to the water. But it was getting late at that point and it was going to get dark soon. I keep wondering if something happened in the 1.5 hours between the time he got home from school and when he went out. Why head out right before dinner time? Why take a backpack?

I have a second home in the area and am hoping that today is the day that he will be found.

Well, I was hoping today would be the day... but not like this :(

This is so sad. The mental health of our young people is at crisis point. For a teen who was successful, and apparently well-liked, co-captain of the soccer team, to be in such despair is so disheartening.

Or could it have been misadventure? We've seen cases here on Websleuths that were accidental drownings from swimming out too far.
In either case, he's a victim of tragic circumstances out of his control. With time, may his loved-ones find comfort in their memories with him. I wish them comfort and support from their community.

Oh gosh.... this is so very sad. I'm actually amazed that he was found at all. He could have so easily been carried out.

I had the same thought. Such good work by the search crews.

In the news conference at 4PM officials thanked everyone within the community. Theo was found just off Bunganuc Point in Maquoit Bay. The news conference was very short. They merely thanked everyone, someone asked where he was found and then they said "that's it" and left. Certainly not the outcome anyone was hoping for. The high school is offering counseling tonight and are asking volunteers to take down the posters, especially those near the family's home.

Marine patrol in air saw the body in water. Amazing - small and poignant gratitude that the family will have that closure. Kudos to LL Bean also for assisting in that search.
