ME - Woman Charged With Murder After Teenage Boy Found Dead, Megan McDonald 39

  • #81
Police say they found Quincy’s body in the backyard by a decorated Christmas tree on a blanket with his feet on a bible.

According to the affidavit, she was going to then cut off her own head with a chainsaw but turned herself into police instead.

Investigators say McDonald told them she hadn't taken her meds since the previous April.

Maybe it was mentioned earlier but I don't recall reading Megan was taking meds?

The affidavit states that McDonald told investigators that on the night of Dec. 19, she had a meal with her son and let him know that God had chosen her for a murder-suicide. She told her son that he needed to be sacrificed, which he disagreed with. According to the affidavit, McDonald told investigators that she gave her son some marijuana with a plan to kill him after he fell asleep, but it did not work.

The affidavit goes on to state that McDonald said her son tried running away, which is when she wrapped the scarf she was wearing around his neck from behind and strangled him until he was unconscious. McDonald then told investigators that after her son had stopped breathing, she flipped him over and stabbed him in the chest with a knife.

I haven't found any updates in this case, does that mean she is receiving treatment somewhere?

Yes. Interestingly both the State Prosecutors and the defendant want the trial to go ahead. But the issue is that while the defendant understands the legal process and seriousness of the charges, and wants to plead guilty, she still maintains that God told her to do it.

Forensic psychologist Dr. April O’Grady conducted McDonald’s evaluation and found she is not currently competent to stand trial. O’Grady said that while McDonald understands the severity of her crime and the evidence against her, she does not fully grasp the role mental illness plays in her reasoning.

“She has very entrenched thoughts that are not based in reality. They affect her ability to be able to see things as they are. And in this case,” O’Grady said.

O’Grady confirmed that McDonald has been formally diagnosed with delusional disorder, which impairs her ability to make rational decisions and effectively participate in her own defence.

“She believes that she was acting in direct response, and communication from God, who is, who was telling her that the world cannot continue the way that it is,” O’Grady testified.
