But don't worry: The programs on Anthony will be shown later, HLN says.

Kronk to get thousands from taxpayers
Updated: Tuesday, 30 Jun 2009, 5:16 PM EDT
Published : Tuesday, 30 Jun 2009, 4:55 PM EDT
<snipped>
The board voted to pay Kronk's lawyer another $2,500.00 to fight a new motion in the case for a total of $15,000.00 so far. That's the new cap for now.

One of the two 'no' votes came from commissioner Mildred Fernandez. "We need to be very careful on what situations we will keep spending tax payer's money in a case that maybe can last 20 years."

The other vote against approving the payment came from Fred Brummer. He doesn't care about the final amount... He won't side with Kronk, who's fighting a defense motion to turn over his personal phone records. "We shouldn't be trying to surpress the evidence, it's not about how he gets his money, we shouldn't be trying to surpress the evidence."

Kronk Finally Collects Reward For Caylee Tip
Commissioners Agree To Up Former Meter Reader's Legal Fees
POSTED: 3:42 pm EDT June 29, 2009
UPDATED: 6:14 pm EDT June 30, 2009
<snipped>
Former meter reader Roy Kronk has finally collected his $5,000 CrimeLine reward for his tip relating to the discovery of slain toddler Caylee Anthony's remains.

The news comes on the same day that, in a split vote, Orange County commissioners approved spending more taxpayer money for Roy Kronk's legal representation.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings, who also sits on the CrimeLine board, said Kronk was awarded the money for his tip related to the Anthony case. Former Anthony family spokesman Mark NeJame also gave Kronk $5,000 earlier as a goodwill gesture. Kronk also received a $20,000 photo licensing fee for a nationally televised interview after the discovery.

Kronk's lawyer, David Evans, said he does not anticipate coming back to ask for thousands more. If he does, Crotty said it will require a full commission discussion like it did Tuesday.

Casey Anthony: WFTV analyst says meter reader should start paying his attorney's fees
posted by halboedeker on Jun 30, 2009 6:29:12 PM
<snipped>
"At some point in time, that point being now, Mr. Kronk should start assuming his own attorney's fees," WFTV-Channel 9 legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said. Sheaffer noted that it's rare for witnesses to have attorneys.

WESH-Channel 2's Bob Kealing explained money that Kronk had received from other sources, including $5,000 from attorney Mark NeJame as a goodwill gesture and a $20,000 photo licensing fee from ABC News.

Fred Brummer told WFTV the latest $2,500 cost wasn't appropriate for taxpayers to pay. Brummer told WESH that the county shouldn't be helping try to suppress cell-phone records.

But they were in the minority. Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty defended the money, saying Kronk had tried to do the right thing and saved the county a lot of money by finding the toddler. Crotty told WFTV that the county had "kind of a corporate ethic to take care of our own."

Casey Anthony’s tattoo artist speaks out
Updated: Friday, 03 Jul 2009, 6:26 PM EDT

Casey Anthony’s tattoo could become part of the case against her. Fox 35 spoke to the artist who gave her the marking.

The tattoo artists name is Bobby Williams. And he gave Casey Anthony a tattoo with the word’s Bella Vita on her left shoulder. Bella vita means beautiful life.

Williams knew that and didn't think twice about it. He says Casey came in and was there for about an hour. She was very normal and most of the time he was doing her tattoo she was on the phone with her then boyfriend Tony Lazzaro.

To put this in perspective, Caylee was last seen on June 16, 2008. Williams said Casey never mentioned her daughter Caylee or that she was missing. He did not learn that until he heard about Casey's arrest on the news, and now looking back. “It’s definitely, definitely strange now that you put two and two together and the child's missing and she comes in and gets something like that. And acts totally normal? Yeah, like nothing happened. It’s like is it because she's living a beautiful life or beautiful life because her daughter is missing.”

1 Year Ago: Casey At 4th Of July Party
23-Year-Old Mom Charged With Murder In Caylee's Death
POSTED: Friday, July 3, 2009
UPDATED: 9:26 am EDT July 6, 2009
<snipped>
One year ago the Fourth of July weekend, Casey Anthony was among the thousands who gathered at Lake Eola for a holiday celebration, which was held more than two weeks after her daughter, Caylee, had last been seen alive, Local 6 News reporter Tony Pipitone reported.

Anthony's only apparent concern at the time was whether the boyfriend she had moved in with on the day Caylee was last seen alive was ever returning to Central Florida from his family home in New York, Pipitone said.

Earlier on the Fourth of July, Anthony and her friend, Amy Huizenga, joined one of Huizenga's coworkers, Will Waters, at a holiday party at his residence.

"Any mention of the child at all?" a detective asked Waters.

"Not until later on that evening. She's like, you know, she told me, you know, 'I have a daughter?" he said. "And I said, 'Yeah, Amy's told me,' and that's -- and I was -- the conversation was ended at she had a daughter."

"That was it?" the detective asked.

"Yeah," Waters said.

UPDATED: Casey Anthony October Trial Date Cancelled
Posted: 11:03 am EDT July 7, 2009
Updated: 6:25 pm EDT July 7, 2009
<snipped>
Defense team member Andrea Lyon told Judge Stan Strickland her teaching schedule would prevent her from being able to go to trial in three months. Judge Strickland cancelled the October 12 date and scheduled a status hearing on the first-degree murder trial for January 21, with plans toward a trial date next summer.

One reason for the delay is new defense team member Andrea Lyon's teaching schedule, which WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer says wouldn't go over well with a lot of judges.

"You cancel everything. You better be ready for trial. In the state system, we're more flexible and especially in a case like this where it's a capital case and someone's life is on the line," Sheaffer said.

Sheaffer says Judge Stan Strickland does not want to give the defense an argument they could use on appeal saying they weren't ready when they had to go to trial.

Additionally, the judge said that he wants an affidavit from Amy Huizenga showing she wants to invoke her right to a speedy trial in the check fraud case that the prosecution wants to move forward on. Casey is charged with stealing her friend's checkbook and buying personal items with forged checks.

Lyon, the defense's death penalty qualified attorney, also told Judge Strickland that she plans to file several motions after Labor Day, but details of those motions were not given.

Judge: News Outlets Can Argue For Anthony Jail Video
Oct. 12 Trial Date Canceled For Anthony
POSTED: 11:48 am EDT July 7, 2009
UPDATED: 12:04 pm EDT July 7, 2009
<snipped>
The judge in the case against Casey Anthony Tuesday ruled he will allow news organizations to argue against sealing a video made of Anthony in jail.

Local news organizations argue that the video is a public document and should be released along with hundreds of other items of evidence in the case.

Anthony's defense team has argued that the video's release could poison the pool of potential jurors.

In other news in the case, as expected, the Oct. 12 trial date for Anthony has been canceled. A status hearing on when the trial will go forward is scheduled for Jan. 21.

According to WDBO, Jay believes Tony Lazzaro will soon be deposed by lawyers in the defamation case brought against Casey by Zenaida Gonzalez.

As of Monday, WDBO reports that nothing had been filed in court regarding deposing Lazzaro.

Lazzaro was already deposed by Casey’s attorneys in her criminal case and Jay said he expects his client to be questioned again “now that they have a death penalty qualified lawyer [Andrea Lyon].”

CASEY ANTHONY TRIAL
UPDATED: Casey Anthony case: October trial date canceled
Casey Anthony trial is delayed
1:52 PM EDT, July 7, 2009
<snipped>
The October trial date for the Casey Anthony murder case has been canceled. No new date was set but a status hearing was scheduled for Jan. 21 at 10:00 a.m.

Andrea Lyon, the latest attorney to join Anthony's defense team, flew from Chicago to attend the meeting. She wanted the judge to know she would be filing motions related to the death penalty in the next several weeks. She requested they be heard before the court in a specific order, said court spokeswoman Karen Levey. She also asked that the hearing dates be scheduled on Thursday or Friday days she doesn't teach class at DePaul University law school.

The prosecutors addressed two other issues: Anthony's tattoo and her fraud case.

The state's request for a photo of Anthony's "Bella Vita" which means "Beautiful Life" - tattoo was moot. She got the tattoo around July 3, which was after she says she last saw her daughter.

The defense didn't oppose a picture so authorities are scheduling one to be taken soon, Levey said.

Prosecutors want to move forward in the check fraud case against Anthony and requested a trial be scheduled in the few months. She's charged with more than a dozen fraud counts, including fraudulent use of personal identification information and forgery of a check.

Strickland requested a sworn affidavit from Huizenga, saying she too is requesting a speedy trial and doesn't want to wait on the murder case.

The defense can respond before Strickland rules on the state's request for a trial.

UPDATED: Anthony murder trial pushed to 2010

Judge Strickland did schedule a pretrial hearing on January 21, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., with plans for a trial date sometime next summer.

The scheduling of a definitive date has been mired by dozens of motion hearings to sort out everything from submissible evidence to trial venue. Just last month, a motion to withhold autopsy findings from the public was denied. However, a video which shows Casey Anthony's reactions on the day that she learned her daughter's remains were found will not be released.

Defense attorneys have asked that the trial be moved to South Florida because of the intense media coverage in Orlando. A hearing has not been scheduled yet to determine whether the case will be moved out of Central Florida. Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty if she is convicted of first-degree murder.

Also yet to be determined is a date for the civil case brought against Anthony by Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez. Attorneys for Anthony had asked to dismiss the lawsuit.

In addition to the civil case presented by Fernandez-Gonzalez, prosecutors want to proceed in a check fraud case against Anthony. That trial could be scheduled before the end of the year.

Casey Anthony: Tony Lazzaro Hires Lawyer
July 7, 2009 at 5:59 am

WDBO is reporting that Tony Lazzaro has hired attorney William R. Jay to represent him.

From WDBO:

Attorney William R. Jay tells WDBO that he’s been told by lawyers for Zenaida Gonzales that Lazarro will soon be deposed in Casey’s civil case – though nothing had been filed in court as of Monday.

Lazzaro was previously deposed by lawyers for Casey in her criminal case, and Jay said he expects his client to again by questioned in that case “now that they have a death penalty qualified lawyer” – referring to the addition of Dr. Andrea Lyon to the defense team.

Jay said he will represent Lazzaro in both cases.

The trial for Casey Anthony, the Orange County mother accused of killing her daughter, has been postponed until at least next summer.

Judge Stan Strickland agreed with defense attorneys, who said since the state is seeking the death penalty, there is no way they could be ready by fall.

The newest member of the defense team, Andrea Lyon, told the judge she'll be filing a series of motions on the death penalty over the next several weeks.

Casey Anthony: WFTV says judge doesn't want to give defense an appeal argument

WFTV analyst Bill Sheaffer said a lot of judges would say, "You cancel everything, you be ready for trial." But Sheaffer said the state system is more flexible, especially on a capital case.

"Sheaffer says Judge Strickland does not want to give the defense an appeal argument that they weren't ready when they were forced to go to trial," Belich said.

Sheaffer said he expects "dozens of motions" filed by every member of the defense team. Belich added, "Sheaffer also expects the defense to file a lot of motions against the death penalty for Caylee's killer." Yes, the veteran reporter convicted Anthony. "Accused killer" would be the way to describe Anthony.

Seldom-used law may force Casey Anthony to trial
July 9, 2009 6:00 AM
<snipped>
Orlando attorney Mark NeJame, who once represented George and Cindy Anthony, says the two sides are battling for position.

"The prosecutor is surely going to want to try the easiest case first so they get a conviction on the record," he said. "That way, when they're prosecuting the defendant, they're now prosecuting a convicted felon."

NeJame says the state is also looking to bring out any information that could be useful during the murder trial.

Casey's defense, according to NeJame, wants the opposite - prevent a fraud conviction and suppress evidence and testimony that could hurt them later on.

But, the state and the victim have a right to a speedy trial in Florida. It's part of a seldom-used law passed in 2005.

Casey's defense promised to counter, but NeJame says it's an uphill battle.

"I think that it may be time to go to trial on the fraud case," he said.

Casey Anthony's murder trial postponed
July 7, 2009 2:32 PM
<snipped>
Casey Anthony's death penalty expert lawyer Dr. Andrea Lyon told judge Stan Strickland that her teaching schedule at DePaul University wouldn't permit her to be ready for the trial that was tentatively set for October 12th.

The judge agreed and set that pretrial hearing for January 21st at 10:00AM.

Defense attorney Jose Baez agreed to allow prosecutors to go into the Orange County Jail and take pictures of Casey's tattoo so long as he is present.

Judge Stickland asked for documentation from Casey's former friend Amy Huizenga stating that she wanted to invoke her right to a speedy trial. Casey Anthony is accused of stealing checks and money from Huizenga, but it remains unclear when that trial will happen. Prosecutors filed a motion on June 23rd requesting the trail be held within two months, but Casey's defense wants it postponed until after her murder trail. The judge said he'll hear both arguments and then decide.

WKMG has filed a motion to intervene in the judge's decision to block the public release of a video taken of Casey on December 11th - the day Caylee's remains were found. No court date has been set yet.
