UPDATED: Anthony's Visits To Still Be Taped
Judge Will Screen All Taped Visits Before Release
POSTED: Thursday, December 17, 2009
UPDATED: 7:05 pm EST December 17, 2009

A judge has denied Casey Anthony's defense team's request to prevent the Orange County Jail from recording Anthony's visits with lawyers.

Judge Stan Strickland issued his ruling Thursday afternoon. He acknowledged that the release of these videos could affect Anthony's right to a fair trial, however, so he will view any video of taped visits involving Anthony before they are released to the public.

"The court has witnessed at least one prior video, which could arguably affect the defendant's right to a fair trial, as well as jury selection," Strickland said in his ruling.

Casey Anthony case: Judge says jail can keep recording
December 17, 2009
<snipped>
Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland ruled Thursday on the defense's request to stop those recordings. He wrote in the two-page order that he can't force the jail to "cease and desist from videotaping Ms. Anthony's meeting with her attorneys."

However, he does have concerns about content of any videotape that might be released and has seen at least one that would impact Anthony's right to a fair trial, Strickland wrote.

It's unclear which video the judge is referring to in his motion. Several months ago, Strickland did stop the release of a video that showed Anthony's reaction when she learned about her daughter's remains.

Videotaping Motion Denied In Casey Case
Thursday, December 17, 2009 5:35:18 PM
<snipped>
The judge in Casey Anthony's murder case will allow the Orange County Jail to continue videotaping visits with her attorneys.

Anthony's lawyers filed a motion to prohibit the procedure, but Judge Stan Strickland said he'll allow their release, but not before he signs off on it.

In his ruling, the judge said any delay in the release of any recordings would be minimal, and the defendant's right to counsel and access to the courts would be protected.

Anthony's lawyers filed a motion to prohibit the procedure, but Judge Stan Strickland said he'll allow their release, but not before he signs off on it.

He said state law favors public access.

Strickland also said he'll prohibit their release if he believes it will be prejudicial to her case.

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer he's not surprised that argument did not hold water with the judge.

“That's like the defendant saying to a judge, ‘Please show mercy on me, because I’m an orphan.’ When, in fact, the defendant is charged with murdering their parents,” Sheaffer said.

“It's because the quality of the evidence is greater in murder cases than, perhaps, than the evidence in other cases,” Sheaffer said.

UPDATED: Judge Schedules Anthony Civil Trial
Death Penalty Option Stays In Anthony Case
POSTED: Friday, December 18, 2009
UPDATED: 5:46 pm EST December 18, 2009
<snipped>
Casey Anthony could face three separate trials in 2010.

If the two sides cannot reach a financial settlement soon, a trial date has been set for June 7.

Anthony is just weeks away from her first trial of 2010. On Jan. 25 she will face a jury for allegedly stealing checks from her former best friend, Amy Huizenga.

Meanwhile, the judge in Anthony's murder case ruled on Friday that the state can continue to seek the death penalty.

Orange County Circuit Judge Stan Strickland said the state was not acting in bad faith or depriving Anthony of her constitutional rights by seeking the death penalty.

UPDATED: Judge Rules To Leave Death Penalty On Table For Casey
Defense Has Cited Lack Of Evidence, Unconstitutionality

UPDATED: 5:52 pm EST December 18, 2009

"While the Court found much of defense counsel's argument regarding death penalty law and procedures to be compelling, her argument as to the state's bad faith and impermissible motives cannot withstand scrutiny. While the quantum of evidence sufficient to seek the death penalty will virtually always be an issue, that matter is best left to the jury. The prosecution's brief recitation of facts supporting its decision to seek the death penalty in this matter was also compelling, and therefore sufficient," the order stated.

Prosecutors will not be barred from seeking the death penalty against Casey Anthony.

"While the quantum of evidence sufficient to seek the death penalty will virtually always be an issue, that matter is generally best left for the jury," Strickland wrote in a two-page ruling.

The denial is the latest of many by the judge in the case. Earlier this week, Strickland denied defense motions that the Orange County Jail stop videotaping Casey Anthony in jail. He also denied a motion to dismiss charges of check fraud.

In his ruling, Judge Stan Strickland said while the motion has merits, it should be left up to a jury to make that decision.

Strickland also said the prosecution has the discretion to seek the death penalty, and while he does have some authority to restrict that right, he was choosing not to do so in this case.

Casey Anthony: Judge says prosecution can seek death penalty
posted by halboedeker on December, 18 2009 12:29 PM
<snipped>
“The state argued that judges really can’t restrict prosecutors’ discretion when it comes to choosing to go for the death penalty,” Pipitone said. “But the judge disagreed and said that he could stop them if he found bad faith, an attempt to deprive Casey Anthony of her constitutional rights. Now, of course, the defense argued there was bad faith. They say the state just wants to go for the death penalty so that it can get a jury that is more conviction-prone.”

You can expect more reports later today.

Judge Stan Strickland has denied a request to take the death penalty off the table in the prosecution of Casey Anthony charged with killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee.

The judge ruled Friday that prosecutors can ask a jury to consider the death penalty during Casey Anthony's trial next year.

Casey Anthony: Judge cites state’s compelling recitation in seeking death penalty
posted by halboedeker on December, 18 2009 4:16 PM

“All this order says is that there is legally sufficient facts for the state attorney to seek the death penalty,” Orlando defense attorney Richard Hornsby said.

WESH’s Bob Kealing highlighted Strickland’s view that the prosecution’s brief recitation last week of why it sought the death penalty was “compelling” and “therefore sufficient.”

But Kealing added, “That does not mean Strickland will just automatically sentence Casey to death if she is convicted and even if a jury recommends it.”

Casey Anthony: She could face three trials next year, WKMG reports
posted by halboedeker on December, 18 2009 6:24 PM
<snipped>
The defamation trial has been set for June, WKMG’s Mike DeForest reported. Zenaida Gonzalez is suing Anthony for defamation for linking her to the disappearance of Caylee Anthony. Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

About the defamation suit, DeForest said, “If the two sides cannot reach a financial settlement by the end of May, a jury will hear this case in early June.”

Anthony’s check-fraud trial starts Jan. 25. Her murder trial will probably start this summer.

“So it appears 2010 is shaping up to be a very busy year with lots of distractions for Anthony’s defense team,” DeForest said.

Dr Lillian Glass: George and Cindy Antony’s Body Language on the Today Show Indicates They Are Feigning Denial and Know Daughter Casey is Guilty
December 17th, 2009
<snipped>
Even through Cindy and George Anthony’s words on The Today Show say that they believe their daughter Casey is innocent, their body language clearly says something different. Their body language says they know their daughter is guilty of killing their granddaughter Caylee. The shoulder shrugs, hunched shoulders, bowed head, head jerks, vocal choking. uhms, pained facial expressions, lip pursing, Cindy’s closed eyes when speaking, and George’s constantly looking down, are just a few of the “tells” which say they are not telling the truth about what they really think of their daughter and her role in the murder of their granddaughter.

Anthony-Based 'Tot Mom' Play Opens
Local 6 Viewer Watches Performance In Australia
POSTED: Saturday, December 19, 2009
UPDATED: 12:34 pm EST December 19, 2009

"It started out with the actual recording of Cindy (Anthony's) 911 call. Throughout the play, they played some other audio recordings related to the case, like Casey's jailhouse meetings with family," the viewer said.

The viewer said another scene depicts the wooded area near the Anthony family home where Caylee's remains were discovered.

"In front of the small stage there was a swampy area set up depicting Suburban Drive, complete with muddy water, reeds and the black plastic bag containing a skull," the viewer said. "Out came the crime-scene techs, sealing off the scene with tape and taking pics of the skull while the sound of helicopters blared overhead."

Dr Lillian Glass: How Body Language , Speech, and Voice Patterns Can Be Used to Spot the Sociopathic “Casey Anthony’s” of the World
December 17th, 2009
<snipped>
HOW MANY TRAITS DOES CASEY ANTHONY HAVE?

The more of these traits one has, the more of a sociopath they are. When you look at these characteristics and apply them to Casey Anthony, it is interesting how many of these traits she possesses. She appears to have at least 17 of these traits if not more.

FAKE TEARS OF A SOCIOPATH

Sometimes they’ll try to feign emotion by crying in order to garner sympathy. But you will rarely see tears. Since they have no feelings, which includes their having no sadness, they will often mimic crying behavior by wiping under their eyes. The give away is there are no physical tears to wipe! This was definitely the case in Casey’s latest court appearance.

"Tot Mom," created and directed by Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh, is scheduled to run until Jan. 31 at the Sydney Theatre Company.

The company's Web site says Soderbergh uses excerpts from transcripts of Nancy Grace's show, court documents, and police reports to create the play, which is described as a "compelling drama for our sensation-hungry times."

Casey Anthony: Tot Mom play forces audience to watch itself
posted by halboedeker on December, 21 2009 8:38 AM

The New York Times today describes the play as “a mixed-media work with 10 actors in multiple roles” and adds that “a mirrored backdrop forces the audience to watch itself watching the media frenzy whipped up around the case of Caylee Anthony.”

“When I was negotiating for the rights and talking to the STC, I made it very clear we were doing the show for one run,” he told the paper. “We’re not taking it anywhere else and certainly not taking it to the States. I feel that you wouldn’t get a clean response to it in the States; the whole thing would be too colored by events.”
