Roy Kronk Doesn't Want To Give Up Phone Records
Posted: 7:31 am EDT April 21, 2009
Updated: 1:11 pm EDT April 21, 2009

Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, wants a judge to order Roy Kronk to turn them over. Kronk's attorney has filed an objection arguing the defense request is too broad and would be an invasion of Kronk's privacy.

Tuesday, Kronk's attorney said he's not opposed to a request for more specific information.

"We don't have anything to hide. We're not going to sneak around and hide phone numbers. The thrust of what I'm saying is, let's use a scalpel to get at the problem and not a meat cleaver to get at the problem. So let's be precise," attorney David Evans said.

Casey Anthony: George, Cindy to sit for "Early Show" interview
posted by halboedeker on Apr 21, 2009 10:47:53 AM

Maggie Rodriguez will conduct the interview Wednesday and Thursday in the show's New York studio.

And the topics? CBS said, "Rodriguez will talk to the Anthonys about the investigation into their granddaughter's death, including the timeline of events leading up to the arrest of their daughter, Casey, for the crime. The Anthonys also will talk about how their daughter is handling the prosecution's recent decision to seek the death penalty in their case against her."

Which raises a question: How do George and Cindy know if they haven't visited Casey?

Legal Analyst: Casey's Attorney Made Blunder
Posted: 5:22 pm EDT April 21, 2009
Updated: 2:55 pm EDT April 22, 2009

There are no secrets in the case against Casey Anthony. If Casey Anthony's lawyer, Jose Baez, wanted to keep secret his attempt to get phone records from key people in the case, WFTV's legal expert says he went about it the wrong way.

There will be at least one hearing because at least two of the 12 witnesses Baez wants to track through unlimited cell phone records are fighting it and most of the others probably will. Meter reader Roy Kronk and Casey's friend Amy Huizenga say Baez wants way too much.

Casey Anthony: Oprah Winfrey drops interview with George, Cindy

You won't see George and Cindy Anthony on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

"Based on the Anthonys' decision to appear on other programs, we have decided not to move forward with their interview on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' at this time," an Oprah spokesman told me this afternoon.

Scooped Oprah cancels appearance by George, Cindy Anthony
Hal Boedeker | Sentinel Staff Writer

Why? Because after it was announced that the Anthonys would be on Oprah, George and Cindy accepted an invitation to appear on CBS' "Early Show" tomorrow morning.

It's a public relations setback for the Anthonys, who have embarked on something of a media tour in the wake of a decision by State Attorney Lawson Lamar to seek the death penalty against Casey. She is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee Marie.

Oprah Cancels Scheduled Interview With Anthonys

The Anthonys' network appearance on the Early Show before appearing on Oprah cost the Anthonys their chance at her hour-long show, with higher viewership.

That means instead of spreading their message to Oprah's 7.5 million viewers daily, the Anthonys' stuck with the nation's number three morning show, with less than half of Oprah's viewers.

Casey Anthony's Parents Stand By Her
On Early Show, Say They Don't Want Her To Cop Plea In Death Of Her Daughter, Caylee, 2, Because She Didn't Kill Her
NEW YORK, April 22, 2009

In an exclusive interview with Early Show co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez Wednesday, Cindi and George Anthony said they don't think Casey should accept a plea deal, even though prosecutors just announced they're going to seek the death penalty in the case.

"We can't think about what's to come," in light of word the death penalty will be sought, Cindy told Rodriguez. "She hasn't even had her trial yet. Casey is presumed innocent, and, you know, we can't think about that right now."

"I don't really believe that her defense team is going to do anything to jeopardize anything in the future for her," George said. "So ... we have to wait and see what plays out. I don't believe that's going to happen with her."

Rodriguez asked the Anthonys about their daughter's odd behavior, and questioned why she didn't report Caylee missing.

Cindy Anthony said she didn't understand all the things her daughter did. But she said the reason Casey waited 31 days to report Caylee missing was because she worried for her family's safety.

"She was afraid," Cindy Anthony said. "She feared for all of our lives."

Casey Anthony: George, Cindy display an interview style reminiscent of 'The Three Faces of Eve'
posted by halboedeker on Apr 22, 2009 8:50:57 AM

George and Cindy Anthony remind me of the old movie "Three Faces of Eve."

Just like Joanne Woodward, they've run through a series of personalities.

They shared their subdued side in an exclusive interview with CBS' "Early Show" this morning. They were far different from the furious people who gave depositions in the Zenaida Gonzalez defamation suit against their daughter, Casey. Casey is charged with daughter Caylee's murder.

The news from the interview? Casey, who is facing the death penalty, probably won't accept a plea deal, George said. And Cindy said they wouldn't encourage her to do so.

A voicemail obtained by Eyewitness News is raising new questions in the case against Casey Anthony. As the complex and layered story continues to develop, the voicemail message gives a better idea of Cindy Anthony's mindset in the days following her granddaughter's disappearance.

Casey's mother, Cindy Anthony, left the message for Sgt. John Allen, one of the lead detectives in the case, in July 2008. In the message, Cindy Anthony tried to emphasize that she was trying to help the investigation.

The show begins with a woman running into the station frantically stating that her granddaughter is missing.

Casey Anthony: Jose Baez tells WESH how she could get off; George, Cindy tell CBS' 'Early Show' they're behind their daughter -- no matter what

This morning, the parents described Casey. George called her sensitive, caring and "the kind of daughter that any father is proud of." She is accused of murdering her daughter, Caylee.

What do they say to people who say the evidence is hard to refute? "Has any case ever gotten all this kind of exposure?" George asked. "No."
The parents said they would support Casey, no matter what. "All we can do is stand behind our daughter," Cindy said.

"There's some people that say we should be done with it," George said. "You can't. That's our daughter. No matter what."

Baez: How Casey Anthony Could Go Free
Attorney: 'There Is So Much That Is Unknown'
POSTED: 9:12 pm EDT April 23, 2009
UPDATED: 10:10 am EDT April 24, 2009

Baez and other defense attorneys say prosecutors have not definitively tied Casey Anthony to Caylee's remains along Suburban Drive. They have to prove that Casey dumped the body there before entering state custody and that they remained there for almost six months.

"That's going to become one of the major battlegrounds in the case," said defense attorney Richard Hornsby.

Thomas Luka, an attorney for Casey Anthony's brother, Lee, agreed: "That would be one of the first things I would want to pursue."

Baez also questioned the forensic evidence in the case.

Casey's Former Friend Files Objection To Baez Motion
Posted: 5:25 pm EDT April 23, 2009

Jose Baez filed a motion weeks ago asking a judge to order several people, including Casey's former best friend Amy Huizenga, to turn over all of their cell phone and Internet records.
However, Huizenga's lawyer filed paperwork to fight the request.

The attorney for meter reader Roy Kronk has already done that and the lawyer for Deputy Richard Cain plans to do the same.

Cain was fired for the way he handled tips in the case.

This is what happens when the Casey Anthony case meets television's May ratings period, which began Thursday.

"We're going to be breaking some new ground in the Casey Anthony case in the next few weeks," WKMG news director Steve Hyvonen said. "Tony Pipitone will do investigations."

Like it or not, the case promises to be a recurring topic in May, and WESH wasted no time. As The Early Show concluded its two-part interview with the Anthonys, WESH countered with an exclusive interview with Anthony attorney Jose Baez.
