POSTED: Friday, April 24, 2009
UPDATED: 10:14 pm EDT April 26, 2009

In a text message sent to Local 6 News reporter Jessica D'Onofrio, Cindy Anthony said she canceled an interview with Oprah Winfrey and her show didn't pull the plug on the sit down as it stated earlier this week.

In the text message to Local 6 News, Anthony wrote:
"BTW I CANCELLED ON OPRAH because of integrity."
No further explanation was provided in the text message.

Posted: 1:58 pm EDT April 24, 2009
Updated: 3:46 pm EDT April 24, 2009

In the case against Casey Anthony, the law firm representing Zenaida Gonzalez in a defamation lawsuit against Casey wants a judge to force Cindy Anthony to answer more questions and to pay for their costs.

Friday, the law firm filed a motion to compel Cindy Anthony to answer whether Casey ever used Cindy's credit cards without her permission. Cindy refused to answer the question in the first deposition.

Casey Anthony: Victims' advocate tells WFTV that George, Cindy are ringmasters of circus
posted by halboedeker on Apr 23, 2009 10:43:04 AM

George and Cindy Anthony's latest media appearances have appalled a crime-victims' advocate.

"To me this whole thing with the Anthonys is like a big circus, and George and Cindy are the ringmasters," Claire Fielding told WFTV-Channel 9. Her daughter, Debbie, was kidnapped and murdered in downtown Orlando nine years ago.

Yet the Anthonys are off the agenda of a homicide victims' conference next month in Connecticut.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, lawyers for Zenaida Gonzalez are now asking a judge to order Cindy Anthony to answer questions about whether Casey used credit cards without permission.

Casey Anthony case: In WESH interview, Jose Baez apologizes if he hasn't shown outrage that wronged woman is jailed
posted by halboedeker on Apr 25, 2009 10:43:11 AM

Where is the outrage from the defense that the wrong woman has been jailed?
Bob Kealing of WESH-Channel 2 asked that question of Jose Baez, who is representing Casey Anthony in her murder trial.

"I apologize if I haven't shown that previously," Baez said.
"I've pulled out all the stops to try to get her the best defense possible," he added. "That's what I'm mostly concerned with. I have to stay focused. I can't get emotional."

Does death row await Casey Anthony?
Even if she is sentenced to die, she might not be executed — few women are in Florida
By Sarah Lundy | Sentinel Staff Writer
April 26, 2009

This month, prosecutors announced they are seeking the death penalty for Casey Anthony, an Orange County mother charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee Marie.

With Florida's death-row history, experts say prosecutors face an uphill challenge in convicting Anthony, sending her to death row and keeping her there.
Of the 16 women initially ordered to die by state execution, the lives of 13 have been spared when their sentences were vacated or commuted to life on appeal.

Casey Anthony: 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' is the program that George and Cindy shouldn't see
posted by halboedeker on Apr 26, 2009 9:30:54 AM

George and Cindy Anthony probably should pass on this week's episode of NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." Some details are just too close to the story of their daughter, Casey, who is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee.

The three series in the "Law & Order" franchise borrow from the headlines, and this "SVU" lifts liberally from the Anthony saga to establish a plot.

Casey Anthony case inspires 'Law & Order' episode -- but expect a few twists
By Hal Boedeker | Sentinel Television Critic
9:20 AM EDT, April 27, 2009

This week's episode of NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has one or two eerie parallels to the Casey Anthony case. For instance, a grandmother (played by Gail O'Grady) goes to police and complains about a stench in a car.

"That had the buzzers going off in your head," series executive producer Neal Baer told me.

Well, yeah. But how should I feel when I hear that?

"You can feel any way you like," Baer said. "You shouldn't jump to conclusions."

Taxpayers May Pay For Meter Reader's Lawyer
Posted: 5:40 pm EDT April 27, 2009
Updated: 9:51 am EDT April 29, 2009

Orange County commissioners are about to spend more tax money to pay for Kronk's lawyer. Last December, Orange County agreed to pay $10,000 for an attorney to help Roy Kronk deal with the media.

Officials felt, after all, that he broke a national case and discovered Caylee's remains while on the job.

"When you get ensnared in a legal problem while on you the job I think we have a moral obligation to pay his [bills]," said Orange County Commissioner Bill Segal.

Kronk is asking the county to pay another $2,500 to get ready for the legal case.

Orange County taxpayers will be paying more out of their pocket to pay for the legal fees of the meter reader who found Caylee Anthony’s remains in December.

On Tuesday the county commission agreed to pay up to another $2,500.00 for Roy Kronk’s legal expenses. The county has already paid $10,000.00 for his legal expenses.

Orange County Deputy Richard Cain joined others who don't want to turn over cell phone records to Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, according to paperwork filed in court this morning.

The request violates Cain's right to privacy. His attorney, Stewart Cohen, also points to a Florida law that protects law enforcement officer's records of home addresses, telephone numbers and other details, according to the paperwork.

Could Accident Explain Casey's 'Ugly Coping'?
Attorney Looks At Possible Anthony Defense
POSTED: 10:19 pm EDT April 28, 2009
UPDATED: 3:52 pm EDT April 30, 2009

To best use this so-called "ugly coping" defense, that attorney says Anthony will have to tell the jury the traumatic event that sparked her odd behavior and lies was Caylee's accidental death.

Caylee Anthony's exact cause of death has not been determined. And defense attorney Richard Hornsby said that fact leaves the door open for Casey Anthony to claim she knew about Caylee's death but did not kill her.

Does 'Ugly Coping' Explain Casey's Partying?
How does Anthony explain her lack of concern, grief or remorse?
"She has a very compelling reason for her actions," her attorney Jose Baez said in an exclusive interview with WESH 2 reporter Bob Kealing.

Veteran Prosecutor To Helm Anthony Case
POSTED: Wednesday, April 29, 2009
UPDATED: 7:24 pm EDT April 29, 2009
The lead prosecutor in the case against Casey Anthony is familiar with high-profile murder cases as well as child neglect cases.

Assistant State Attorney Linda Drane-Burdick was tapped to prosecute the case when Anthony was charged with child neglect, but now, the 20-year veteran will take the lead in one of the most publicized murder trials in Florida history.

In order to preserve the integrity of the case, Drane-Burdick has repeatedly declined to talk about Anthony in public, but the experienced prosecutor is well known for her aggressive questioning of witnesses and her desire to be a voice for the victim.

Casey Anthony case: Records focus on day Caylee Anthony's remains
Records detail investigation into why it took so long for tips to be acted on
Sarah Lundy, Amy L. Edwards and Bianca Prieto | Sentinel Staff Writers

That discovery, however, came after he alerted detectives multiple times about a suspicious bag in the woods in August. One deputy -- later identified as Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Richard Cain -- failed to follow through on a tip.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office is in the process of firing Cain, whose actions and job performance were the subject of an internal investigation in the wake the discovery. He is appealing the decision.

"You failed to thoroughly investigate the call for service which ultimately delayed the discovery of the remains of Ms. Caylee Anthony," Captain Larry D. Krantz wrote in the internal investigation report on March 30.

Casey Anthony: What does the snake show?
posted by halboedeker on May 1, 2009 1:33:49 PM

New documents released today in the Casey Anthony case evidently could help the defense.

FBI test results show that dirt and debris in her car trunk could not be matched definitively to the spot where daughter Caylee's remains were found, WFTV-Channel 9 reported at noon. The same goes for "limited amounts of debris found on several pairs of shoes taken from the Anthony home," WFTV's Kathi Belich said.

"Even though investigators say it's possible one of those pairs of shoes had trampled through the forest, the lab found no soil matches," reported Mike DeForest of WKMG-Channel 6.

New Documents Claim Caylee Should Have Been Found Earlier
Sunday, May 03, 2009 8:13:00 AM

A slew of new documents released Friday claim the body of Caylee Anthony should have been found months before it actually was, according to an internal investigation of an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy regarding the December day her remains were recovered.

The documents center around the day Caylee's remains were found and look into her death. However, they did not specify how she died.

Lab Test Results Shed No Light On Caylee's Death
Land Where Caylee Anthony Found Heads To Auction
POSTED: 7:46 am EDT May 1, 2009
UPDATED: 5:22 pm EDT May 1, 2009

The release of documents included results from some of the tests that legal experts said were the basis for the prosecution's decision to pursue the death penalty.

Since February, FBI lab results have been returned on a variety of critical pieces of evidence, including a hair mass from Caylee Anthony's skull, a bullet casing, more than one dozen pairs of shoes taken from the Anthony home, a kitchen knife found near the toddler's remains and a sample of soil from the trunk of Casey Anthony's car.

The results have been seen as a disappointment to prosecutors. The documents showed tests on the hair came back negative for a variety of chemicals which might point to how Caylee died. However, the report also stated that just because the tests came back negative does not mean there was no exposure to chemicals.

New Documents May Give Casey's Defense Ammunition
Posted: 5:31 pm EDT May 1, 2009
Updated: 6:24 pm EDT May 1, 2009

It is a bit of a break for the defense, less incriminating evidence to fight against and to use to try to create reasonable doubt. But the defense team's obstacle will boil down to that one word, "reasonable."

"It helps the defense because the defense then does not have to counter that piece of evidence," said WFTV Legal Analyst Bill Sheaffer.

Sheaffer says the defense could try to create doubt in jurors' minds by focusing on those weak links, because of unanswered questions. Such as how Caylee was murdered, but says doubt and reasonable doubt are two different things.

The legal standard is this: "A reasonable doubt is not a mere possible doubt, a speculative, imaginary or forced doubt."
