UPDATED: Knife, Syringe Among Photos Released In Casey Case
Posted: 7:17 am EST February 16, 2010
Updated: 6:42 pm EST February 16, 2010
<snipped>
Prosecutors released pictures, documents and video Tuesday in the case against Casey Anthony, including WFTV video that investigators believe links the rare type of duct tape found over Caylee's face to the Anthony family.

The newly-released discovery also contains photos of evidence found inside Casey Anthony's car, including a knife. The photos show highly-magnified views of the knife and threads that appear to be stuck to the serrated edge. The photos are not accompanied by documents to show whether the threads found on the knife’s edge match the threads from the rare duct tape found over Caylee's face and in the Anthonys' home.

So far, 12,419 pages of documents in the case have been released.

CASEY'S SOLITARY JAIL LIFE
Casey Anthony continues to lead a very, very solitary life in jail. She did visit with a probation officer two weeks ago and has regular meetings with attorneys, but during all of last year, and this year so far, Casey hasn't had any personal visits or made any phone calls. Casey’s parents claimed they avoid visits, to prevent any videotaped conversations from going public. But, at Christmas, Casey's father did give her a $100 check.

CONSULTANT LEAVES CASEY'S DEFENSE TEAM
Another member of Casey's powerhouse defense team is calling it quits. Marti Mackenzie resigned as the media relations consultant in Casey's case Tuesday morning, but she didn't say why she was leaving. "Effective today, I will no longer be a media liaison for the Casey Anthony defense team. All media inquiries about the Casey Anthony case can be directed to Liz Brown, at DePaul University College of Law Legal Clinic," Mackenzie wrote in the emailed released.

UPDATED: Key Evidence Photos Released In Casey Anthony Case
Duct Tape, Trunk Liner Images Among Evidence Released
POSTED: 7:16 am EST February 16, 2010
UPDATED: 11:32 am EST February 16, 2010
<snipped>
Newly released photos and documents in the case against Casey Anthony provided a closer look at some key pieces of evidence on Tuesday.

Some of the images were taken inside the trunk of Casey Anthony's car. Prosecutors said they believe Anthony drove around for days with Caylee Anthony's body inside the trunk. Prosecutors will apparently try to use the images to prove it.

The images of the trunk liner taken from Anthony's Pontiac showed a flaky substance and what look like small stains. Larger stains are visible on the back of the liner.

Using a process called Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, or LIBS, investigators from the University of Tennessee's Anthropological Research Facility concluded that the evidence from the trunk is consistent with a decompositional event of human origin.

The spokeswoman for Casey Anthony's defense team has resigned.

Marti Mackenzie, who has spoken on behalf of defense attorney Jose Baez since February 2009, announced Tuesday she is no longer part of the team.

"I am happy I could be of help in the months I worked as the media representative," she said. "The most important thing is that we made a clean transition so that the coverage on this will have a point person on the defense team."

All media inquiries about Casey Anthony's defense are now to be directed to Liz Brown at the DePaul University College of Law Legal Clinic, where defense attorney Andrea Lyon works.

Reached by phone, Mackenzie declined to discuss the specifics about her resignation.

Latest Casey Evidence Includes Syringe Photos, FBI Test Details
Tuesday, February 16, 2010 11:18:27 AM
<snipped>
Included in the three CD-ROMs released today are photos of a Gatorade bottle, syringe, brown liquid, toilet paper, and a baby doll that may have belonged to Caylee Anthony.

Documents released in the past have described the chemicals found inside the syringe. A brown liquid, two cardboard rolls, a syringe and other pieces of debris were all found.

FBI test results showed the liquid in the containers was composed of chloroform and other elements.

Tests also showed that traces of chloroform were found in the syringe. It's not know exactly where the bottle was found or how close to her remains.

Specifically the duct tape - the state is examining media reports comparing the duct tape found on Caylee to the tape used to hang up missing posters before she was found.

There are also documents about the methods used by the FBI to analyze bones, teeth, and hair. Polish your CSI skills and read the documents included in today's release:

UPDATED: Sources: Duct Tape Used To Murder Caylee
Anthony's Defense Says State Has No Definitive Proof Of Murder

POSTED: 10:30 am EST February 16, 2010
UPDATED: 5:48 pm EST February 16, 2010
<snipped>
According to sources, a strip of duct tape found on Caylee's mouth is one of three prosecutors believe were used by Casey Anthony to suffocate her daughter.

Anthony's defense maintains the tape is just a theory and the state has no definitive proof of the murder, citing that the state failed to find Anthony's prints on the duct tape. "The biggest problem for the defense is that there can never be an innocent explanation for duct tape being fixed on a child's face," Orlando defense attorney Richard Hornsby said.

Hornsby said that the number of pieces of tape and where they were placed is critical. "The fact that there was more than one piece and they were used to block the airways, clearly that's where the state is going to argue the premeditation comes from," Hornsby said.

Hornsby also said that the defense is validating the state's theory by trying to cast doubt on Roy Kronk, the former meter reader who discovered Caylee's remains. "The defense pointing at Roy Kronk as having used duct tape, they're admitting to tape being affixed to her face and Caylee suffocating," Hornsby said.

UPDATED: Casey Anthony: Was duct tape used to murder Caylee?
Investigators try to link duct tape to Casey Anthony

6:49 p.m. EST, February 16, 2010
<snipped>
Will prosecutors be able to link duct tape as a possible murder weapon to Casey Anthony? Authorities are clearly taking a close look at duct tape in this case based on details released today and in the past.

In December, in fact, Assistant State Attorney Jeff Ashton described how prosecutors think Caylee died, with duct tape over her nose and mouth. He suggested a child who was nearly 3 years old should have been able to remove the tape -- but Caylee could not, meaning she was either drugged or physically restrained, he said.

"If she was physically restrained, her killer would have had to restrain her arms by some means, applying tape while she was conscious," Ashton said in December. "As the killer looked into her face, maybe her killer even saw her eyes as the tape was applied. ...Could Caylee have understood what was happening to her? Did she try to resist? Could the killer see the fear in her eyes as the tape was applied? These are questions only the jurors will be able to answer in this case."

So far, investigators have seized a roll of Henkel brand duct tape from the Anthony family home. They found the same brand on a gas can that Casey Anthony once stored in her trunk.

Liz Brown, a new spokeswoman for the defense would not comment about specific information released today.

"The photos and documents released today demonstrate the extent of public access to the area where Caylee Anthony's remains were found," Brown said.

Casey Anthony: ‘Death by duct tape’ for Caylee, WESH says
posted by halboedeker on February, 16 2010 5:26 PM
<snipped>
Sources close to the investigation say that they believe the duct tape was used by Casey Anthony to — with premeditation and willfulness — suffocate her own daughter,” WESH’s Bob Kealing reported.

Orlando attorney Richard Hornsby, who offers legal analysis for the station, said the placement of the duct tape is important. “The fact it was put on in a way to cover all the airways, clearly that’s where the state is going to argue premeditation comes from,” Hornsby said.

The defense has previously argued that Casey’s fingerprints were not found on the duct tape. But Hornsby said the defense team’s suggestion that meter reader Roy Kronk should be considered a suspect could backfire. The defense has pointed to Kronk’s supposed use of duct tape. In effect, Hornsby said, the defense is agreeing that duct tape killed Caylee Anthony.

WESH anchor Martha Sugalski turned to tests on the liner in Casey Anthony’s car trunk. “Investigators hope to prove that microscopic evidence in that trunk and test on the air prove Casey was driving around with her daughter’s body in the trunk,” Sugalski said.

Legal Expert: Evidence Suggests Only Casey As Suspect
Posted: 6:00 pm EST February 16, 2010
<snipped>
Eyewitness News was in court when the defense claimed they had proof that someone else killed Caylee. So, where is that proof? In a word, nowhere.

The defense was supposed to produce it to prosecutors two weeks ago. Nothing in the 12,419 pages of evidence released so far, including the newly-released photos of laser testing for body fluids on the carpeting in Casey Anthony's trunk and evidence found by WFTV of more of the rare duct tape connected to the Anthonys that matches up to the tape found over Caylee's nose and mouth, shows anyone but Casey was involved.

“It is certainly consistent with the state's theory of the case, reinforces the state's theory of the case and inconsistent with what we're hearing from the defense that it could've been someone else involved with this crime,” Sheaffer told Eyewitness News Tuesday.

Six months ago, the defense said it had substantial evidence that someone else put Caylee's body in the woods after Casey was locked up on no bond. The judge's deadline for the defense to produce that evidence was two weeks ago.

Now, prosecutors might have new evidence against Casey. Investigators are looking into it and prosecutors are asking for a hearing with the judge so they can keep it a secret even from the defense until they sort it all out.

Casey Anthony: Casey Anthony is the only suspect, WFTV analyst says

WFTV-Channel 9 asked tonight: Where is the defense’s proof that someone other than Casey Anthony killed Caylee Anthony?

“In a word, nowhere,” WFTV’s Kathi Belich said. “The defense was supposed to hand it over to prosecutors two weeks ago.”

WFTV anchor Bob Opsahl said that Anthony leads “a very, very solitary life in jail.” She has regular meetings with her lawyers, but she hasn’t had any personal visits or calls in the past 14 months.

Is Casey’s Defense Team Running Out Of Money?
Posted: 4:45 pm EST February 17, 2010
Updated: 6:05 pm EST February 17, 2010
<snipped>
Casey Anthony’s team is made up of some of the most high-profile lawyers in the country and it’s not a cheap case to fight.

Tuesday, Eyewitness News reported another member of the defense team dropped out of the case, but former spokesperson Marti Mackenzie didn't say why she was leaving. Wednesday, WFTV reporter Kathi Belich heard from another lawyer who was told Casey and her family were too broke to pay anyone.

Eyewitness News was told the Anthonys and their lawyer, Brad Conway, were looking for a lawyer to represent Casey who was willing to forego getting money upfront. Longtime Orlando attorney Robert Buonauro told Eyewitness News on Wednesday the Anthonys and Conway wanted to replace Casey's defense attorney, Jose Baez, early on in the case.

Buonauro says Conway said Casey and her family were broke and, if he were willing to do without money upfront, there was the possibility of some sort of defense fund or book or movie rights down the road. Buonauro said no.

JUDGE DENIES STATE'S REQUEST FOR PRIVATE MEETING
Late Wednesday afternoon, Judge Stan Strickland denied the state's request for a private meeting with him, but he did give the prosecution options.

Strickland wrote in his order that the state can submit a written motion explaining what information they want to keep private and how long they want to delay sharing it with Casey's defense team.

At that time, the judge will review their request again and make a final decision.

Casey Anthony: WFTV asks if Casey Anthony’s defense team is running out of money
posted by halboedeker on February, 17 2010 6:36 PM
<snipped>
Belich turned to WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer, who saw a trouble sign: The defense team has not started depositions in the case. “There’s too much on the line to pick and choose which depositions of the individuals you want to take,” Sheaffer said. Those depositions are expensive and time-consuming, Belich added.

WFTV also reported that Judge Stan Strickland has denied a prosecution request for a private meeting with him. Instead, he told the state it “can submit a written motion explaining what information they want to keep private and how long they want to delay sharing it with Casey’s defense team,” anchor Barbara West said. Strickland said he would review that request and make a final decision, West added.

Casey Anthony Evidence: Is Murder Weapon Among Pictures?
02/16/2010 6:23 PM
<snipped>
After prosecutors released several pictures of evidence in connection with the murder of toddler Caylee Anthony today, reports surfaced that the murder weapon could be featured among them.

Was it the syringe with traces of chloroform found near the child’s remains? Or the knife with a fiber still lodged in the teeth investigators say they found in mother Casey Anthony’s car?

Actually, the answer is most likely neither according to The Orlando Sentinel and local news affiliate WESH. Rather, a roll of duct tape has drawn much attention from prosecutors.

When the 2-year-old’s remains were discovered in December 2008, a strip of duct tape was pasted around the mouth of the small skull. A heart shaped sticker was attached to the strip. In December, assistant state attorney Jeff Ashton said prosecutors believe the little girl died with duct tape covering her nose and mouth.

Dr. Lillian Glass: Casey Anthony’s Body Language Appears to Reflect New Evidence By Prosecution Duct Tape Was Weapon Used to Murder Caylee
Friday, February 19th, 2010
<snipped>
When prosecutor Jeff Ashton graphically laid out his theory Casey had a significant physical reaction body language wise. Casey didn’t react physically until Aston spoke the following words-

“Maybe her killer saw her eyes as she applied one piece, then two, then three so that no breath was possible,”

Casey was forced to hear the truth about herself. She was forced to hear what she most likely did with the duct tape.

Now that we now know that the duct tape is considered a possible murder weapon, it is understandable why Casey reacted as she did upon hearing the prosecutor describe her actions with the duct tape. This once again confirms that “the body does not lie!”

UPDATED: Casey Anthony’s family home in foreclosure
George and Cindy Anthony are facing foreclosure

11:47 a.m. EST, February 23, 2010
<snipped>
The owners of the house are George and Cindy Anthony, the grandparents of slain toddler Caylee Marie Anthony. Court documents show the couple hasn't made their $785.82 mortgage payment since June 2009 – that's more than $7,000.

Records show that the Anthonys bought the house in 1989 for $90,900. They refinanced the home in 2005 and agreed to pay $121,180 on the home. Court documents show that the lender claims the couple owes about $121,000.

Bank Of America Files Foreclosure

POSTED: Monday, February 22, 2010
UPDATED: 5:44 pm EST February 23, 2010
<snipped>
According to the foreclosure filing, the Anthonys had not made a mortgage payment in nine months.

"I don't know really why they have foreclosure because I heard also they went on a trip,” the Anthony's neighbor, Roxanna Mercado, said. Mercado said she was surprised to learn the Anthony’s are so far behind on their mortgage. "You don't have money to pay your home but you have to go on a cruise, that's weird," Mercado said.

Even though they have lived in the house for more than 20 years, Hopespring Drive did not become a household name until summer 2008. After Casey Anthony’s first and subsequent arrests, protesters were at the house day and night.

Neighbors said they paid the price. Mercado said she tried to rent her home, but the name of the street drove tenants away. “The damage is already done,” Mercado said. “It's something that the people always are going to remember right now and it affects the area."

The Anthonys said they plan to do all they can to save their home, if only to preserve the place where Caylee spent her life.

Casey Anthony: What happens if George, Cindy Anthony lose home?
posted by halboedeker on February, 23 2010 8:01 AM

George and Cindy Anthony, the parents of Casey Anthony, could be losing what has been their home since 1986, WFTV-Channel 9 reports.

Bank of America yesterday filed foreclosure papers, WFTV anchor Greg Warmoth said.

Will the home still hold its fascination if the Anthonys no longer live there?

Eyewitness News has learned the Anthonys owe over $115,000, plus interest, and haven’t paid since May of last year. Five months after that last mortgage payment, they went on a cruise.

Previously, Lee Anthony’s lawyer said he moved into his parent’s home to help with mortgage payments, with Cindy on disability from her nursing job and George possibly on unemployment. However, it’s unclear why the $785 per month payment hasn’t been paid for nine months.

The Anthonys say they haven't been able to find work because of the stress of the situation, but they have spent time and energy on a non-profit organization they started in Caylee's honor.
