Haleigh Cummings' father investigated for Assault
Last Update: 11:32 am

Deputies say Wednesday night(12/20/09), they were called to Welaka in response to a possible assault.

Deputies say Charles Jones III told them he was driving down County Road 308B when he drove up behind a white truck he knew as Ronald Cummings. Charles said Cummings tried to run him off the road. He also said at some point, his vehicle hit the back end of Ronald’s truck.

Charles said Ronald parked in the middle of the road and stuck a gun out the window of his truck. Charles claimed Ronald threatened his life, and then Charles sped away.

Ronald told Deputies Misty Cummings was also in the truck with him. Misty is Ronald’s ex-wife and was also the last person thought to have seen Haleigh Cummings. Ronald told deputies he told Misty to call 911. He said he was picking his ex-wife up so she could get the rest of her belongings from his house.

Ronald told police he did have a gun but did not carry it with him. Cummings showed deputies where the gun was located inside his house in a locked case.

Less than one hour after this incident was documented by Deputies, Misty Cummings told deputies she began to receive threatening and harassing phone calls from Charles “Charlie” Jones, and his father, who is also Charles Jones.

Misty played the voice messages for Deputies, who immediately made contact with the suspect’s father. Deputies say they advised him not to call Misty any more.

The state attorney will also investigate further into these allegations and decide if an arrest will be made.

“There was no decision to be made. We just honestly thought she'd be here. So when we bought for the other kids, we got for her,” said Teresa Neves, Haleigh’s Grandmother.

The presents under the trees are all wrapped to hide what’s inside. Haleigh’s family is hiding something too. They’re trying to be cheerful for Haleigh’s 4-year-old brother.

“It's all for Junior. Junior still has to have the same Christmas he's ever had. We can't change things for Junior just because Haleigh isn't here,” said Neves.

Haleigh’s father may have it the hardest. He has to play the role of happy dad for his son, and a father torn apart over his missing daughter.

“Ronald will be there for dinner and to open the gifts. But he's asked that he have the rest of the night to go off....and talk to Haleigh...He wants to be alone to talk to Haleigh,” said Neves.

A balloon was released for Haleigh Cummings, who has been missing since February. Another balloon floated into the sky for Somer Thompson, whose killer has not been found. Both little girls were remembered at a special ceremony on Tuesday in Hemming Plaza.

They were just two of the dozens of people mentioned at "The Day of Remembrance." Families gathered to share stories about their children or parents who lost their lives to crime.

Haleigh Cummings WELAKA, Fla. -– Inside the home of Haleigh Cummings' grandmother, there is a massive Christmas tree. Underneath the tree is filled with dozens of presents for many different members of Haleigh’s family.

Some of the presents under the tree are meant to not be opened. They are for Haleigh, and they won’t be unwrapped until she can do it herself.

Haleigh’s grandmother says she’d give anything in the world to get the present she wants for the holidays. All she wants is granddaughter back home.

“I would give everything in my life. Everything I've ever had. Except my grand children or children, to have it back you can have it all,” said Neves.

Misty Croslin Talks About Recent Road Rage Incident
Posted: Monday, 04 January 2010 9:55AM

As you heard on The SKY, Ronald Cummings, Misty Croslin and Charles Norman Jones III were involved in alleged road rage incident in Putnam County where Jones claims Ronald pulled a gun on him.

97.3 The Sky also reported that Misty later told deputies she wanted to press charges agains Jones and his father for making threatening and harassing phone calls.

But who started this alleged incident and why?

Sunday night, radio host Levi Page spoke with Misty Croslin about this alleged road rage incident and how she came to know Charles Jones:

PCSO: Dispatcher Properly Handled 911 Road Rage Call

"Snip" TJ Hart http://www.thesky973.com/pages/6029481.php

Many questions arose from the incident after the 911 audio was released to 97.3 The Sky.

In this call, Misty Croslin claims the she, the driver of the vehicle and two child passengers are being chased by a driver identified as Charles Jones who she claims has tried to run them off the road.

As the Putnam County dispatcher is taking down the information provided by Croslin, the dispatcher asks for her name. Croslin refuses to give it citing she wanted no further problems with Jones but only wants the chase to be stopped.

The dispatcher tells Croslin that they cannot arrest the man in the chase unless she gives her name unless officers witness the incident themselves.

Lt. Johnny Greenwood responded to 97.3 The Sky's questions pertaining to the dispatcher's handling of this incident:

"I just listened to the recording. This is really not a procedure, but this an experienced communication officer knows what is required to charge someone with a crime of this nature. She was attempting to obtain the information to assist the responding deputy with the case. With out a victim, the state cannot become the victim in this type of case, and could not pursue any charges. An officer could stop the vehicle on the word of an anonymous caller, but could not charge him/her with a crime unless a crime was committed in the officer’s presence."

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office has its hands full with this incident. Charles Norman Jones, the man in the other vehicle also contacted 911 with some rather unusual comments.

No charges have been filed or arrests made in this alleged incident as of Monday morning 1/4/10.

Reporter's Notes: Haleigh Cummings, The Night She Vanished

On the evening of February 9, 2009, then-5-year-old Haleigh Cummings was seen for the last time by Misty Croslin, who was just 17 at the time.

Very little information about what happened to Haleigh and who might have taken her has been made public.

The original Putnam County incident report stated that deputies Nelson and Bridges arrived at the home at approximately 3:40 a.m. February 10, 2009.

Deputy Nelson wrote in the report that Ronald was standing in the driveway and was visibly upset.

PCSO Original Incident Report

According to the report, Ronald stated that he had just come home from work and his "dumb b*tch girlfriend" had told him that his daughter was missing.

Ronald told the deputy he did not know what she was wearing and that all he knew was that the back door was open. Ronald repeatedly said someone had taken his child and that "when I find him, I will kill him."
At this point, some have to questioned if Ronald actually knew the gender of Haleigh's abductor or was just saying "him" referring to anyone.

Another part of the report does indicate Misty Croslin had taken the children out of the home in the past while sitting with them. When deputy Nelson asked her if she ever took the children for a walk, Misty stated that sometimes she took them for a walk to see her family.

Missing kids on milk cartons: Short-lived idea built long-term awareness
12:17 a.m. EST, January 5, 2010
<snipped>
When two little girls briefly vanished from their father's Polk County home last week, electronic messages called Amber Alerts were fired off across the state within minutes.

Alerts popped up on highway message boards and to more than 30,000 e-mail boxes before the suspected abductors — the girls' mother and her boyfriend — were arrested in Orlando and the girls were found safe.

Long before Amber Alerts, the faces of America's vanished children stared out from milk cartons during a short-lived initiative that provided long-term results for the nation's missing-children's movement.

In the mid-1980s, a Michigan-based nonprofit, the National Child Safety Council, spearheaded the national milk-carton initiative, publicizing photos of missing and endangered youth at a time when few such programs existed.

As many as 70 missing children were featured during the program's brief run. Of those, only one child was found alive, Huggett said.

As of Monday, Florida had six unsolved Amber Alerts for missing children, including Haleigh Cummings of Putnam County in 2009 and Trenton Duckett, who disappeared from Leesburg in 2006.

In 2008, 10 children were found after Florida Amber Alerts were issued, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Putnam County authorities continue to investigate the February disappearance of Haleigh Cummings. They also have reported more incidents involving her father and his former wife, who was baby-sitting the 5-year-old when she disappeared.

"I really don't think we are going to change the way we have been conducting the investigation. We're still working this as an active case. We are using all of the resources we have available," Putnam County Sheriff's Lt. Johnny Greenwood said. "As tips come in, we follow them. Tips have slowed down drastically over time. When we have the opportunity of re-interviewing the players involved, we are making contact with them."
