Ronald Cummings: Haleigh Cummings' father, 26. Like Haleigh's mother, officers have publicly said he is not a suspect in his child's disappearance............ He now is being held at the Putnam County jail in the same drug trafficking case as his ex-wife, Misty Croslin.

Marie Griffis: Mother of Crystal Sheffield, 44. Early in the case she had been critical of Ronald Cummings and Misty Croslin but now says she feels sorry for Croslin, although she still hopes the young woman will reveal information leading to Haleigh. She has been working with Cummings' mother to set up prayer vigils for Haleigh as the one-year anniversary of the girl's disappearance approaches.

Sheriff Jeff Hardy: Putnam County sheriff, 44. Hardy had just been elected in 2008 when Haleigh Cummings was reported missing in February 2009. etc.

Teresa Neves: Mother of Ronald Cummings, 50. Neves often has served as the spokeswoman for her family, speaking out as the search for her missing granddaughter continues............ And she has been involved in organizing prayer vigils and other events that include both sides of Haleigh's family, her father's and her mother's relatives, a relationship that has been strained as the search continues and custody disputes are raised over the girl and her younger brother.

Kristina &#8220;Nay Nay&#8221; Prevatt: Acquaintance of Misty Croslin, 19. In October, she was an inmate at the Putnam County jail on charges including drug and narcotic equipment possession. etc.

Crystal Sheffield: Haleigh Cummings' mother, 24. Sheffield and Ronald Cummings have two children together, Haleigh and Ronald Cummings Jr. ........ Sheffield now lives near her mother and has temporary custody of her young son following Cummings' arrest on drug charges. Investigators last year said both Cummings and Sheffield were not considered suspects in their daughter's disappearance.

Hope A. Sykes: Cousin of Ronald Cummings, 18. Sykes was arrested in January along with Cummings, Misty Croslin and two others on allegations regarding trafficking of prescription medications. etc.

In his exclusive jailhouse interview with Florida Times- Union reporter Dana Treen, Cummings had a lot to talk about. His vocal tells and the content of what he said spoke added volumes.

SIGNS OF REMORSE AND RESIGNED HE WILL BE GOING TO PRISON

His voice appeared strong and definite as Ron seemed resigned to the fact that he will be going to prison by firmly stating &#8220;I&#8217;m going to DOC (Department Of Corrections). I&#8217;m going to prison, no &#8216;ifs, ands, or buts.&#8217;&#8221; His voice showed that he clearly knew what was going to happen to him and that he was accepting of that fact.
He also showed remorse at the close of his interview as he said &#8220;This is a setback in my life,&#8221; &#8220;When I come out, it will remind me what I should be doing, not what I was doing, or accused of doing.&#8221;

FEAR OF ISOLATION
In his vocal tone you can hear the uneasiness and extreme discomfort he is feeling while being isolated in jail. His voice reveals his frustration as he graphically describes how it is too much to bear by saying, &#8220; nobody on either side, nobody nowhere around, nothing but a hallway.&#8221;

VOCAL RAGE AS RON LASHES OUT ABOUT ALLEGED PERSON WHO TOOK HALEIGH
Ronald&#8217;s voice becomes suddenly enraged when he talked about what he would do to the person who abducted his daughter. There is a harsh edge to the tone as he speaks with a bravado and says &#8220;It&#8217;ll be justifiable homicide. I don&#8217;t care if they get me with unjustifiable homicide. I don&#8217;t care, if I find out what happened to my youngin&#8217; it doesn&#8217;t matter to me. It&#8217;ll be worth life without parole or the death penalty or whatever&#8221;.

RON STILL LOVES MISTY BUT SHOWS AMBIVALENCE AND CONFUSION TOWARDS HER

The most interesting part of his jailhouse interview was when he discussed his former wife and now girlfriend Misty Croslin. .......

On the one hand he says, &#8220;There really isn&#8217;t a relationship I guess, just ex-wife, slash friend.&#8221; But then at the end of his interview in his final message he said &#8220;I want my girlfriend to know I love her.&#8221;

As further indication of his ambivalence and confusion about Misty he says, &#8220;Of course, I want to know if she knows anything. It&#8217;s hard to believe that she don&#8217;t know more, but it&#8217;s also hard to believe that if she did know more she didn&#8217;t already talk.&#8221;

RON IS IN DENIAL
While he has shown remorse and is resigned to that fact that he will be spending time in prison, he is obviously in denial in terms of how much time he will be spending in prison.

It could be the major portion of his life- 43 years if he is convicted of all charges levied against him. As further evidence that he is still in denial and has not yet fully processed what has happened to him, Cummings told reporter Treen that the charges are &#8220;a setback in my life.&#8221;

Once he realizes that he may be spending 43 years in prison, he will see that this is not a mere &#8220;setback&#8221; in his life. It is in essence, the end of his life as he knew it.

WHAT HAPPENED TO HALEIGH?

Several months back on September 18, a letter allegedly written by a friend of Misty Croslin&#8217;s who was in the Putnam County jail, Kristina &#8220;Nay Nay&#8221; Prevatt allegedly send to her boyfriend a letter stating that a man named Joe told detectives that Haleigh ingested some Oxycontin and died and accused her and Misty and a man named Greg of being there when it happened. The alleged letter also said Greg put Haleigh into a bag and took her to a pond.

Six months ago, this may have seemed like a far &#8211; fetched scenario where someone may have made up those claims to get their 15 minutes of fame, but now that Misty has been accused of prescription drug trafficking, and if she is found guilty, it may seem like a plausible scenario . Of course we don&#8217;t know for sure.

On the other hand, the way Ron was speaking in his jailhouse interview, it seemed as though he is convinced that someone actually took Haleigh and may have her as he describes what he would do to the person who took Haleigh. But then again, this is the same man who says he &#8220;loves&#8221; his girlfriend and says &#8220; but it&#8217;s also hard to believe that if she did know more she didn&#8217;t already talk.&#8221;

Misty Croslin&#8217;s father Hank Thomas Croslin Sr., 41 clearly has troubles of his own. Last Thanksgiving he was arrested and put in jail, charged with withholding information from a doctor and fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs. He is due in court in February so his future may be as bleak as his daughter&#8217;s. Soon, he too may be behind bars if he is found guilty.

During the emotional jailhouse visit, Hank gave Misty some sound advice about what to do and not do in jail.

Hank Clearly Loves Daughter Misty
However, after watching the jailhouse tapes of her father, you could really feel his pain and see his anguish in dealing with the fact that his beloved daughter is behind bars.

He said &#8220;I love you&#8221; to her over a dozen times during the call and used terms of endearment even calling her his beautiful baby girl, &#8221; He indicated that he has deep affection for his daughter. You could hear the love he has towards her in his voice and it was consistently gentle and kind.

&#8220;I Told You So&#8221;

No doubt he may have been referring to his daughter&#8217;s drug usage or drug dealing when he used the term &#8220;stupid ****.&#8221;.

You could hear the heavy breathing and the sighs of exasperation as he spoke throughout the video. At the end he was so devastated talking to his daughter behind bars, that he broke down and began to cry.

Hank Taking Responsibility for His Role ,Truthfully Admitting He Doesn&#8217;t Know What To Do, and Knowing Deep Down, He&#8217;s Lost His Kids
The one thing that impressed me while watching the video visit was that Hank manned up and admitted his role in Misty and her brother&#8217;s predicament.

............The truth of the matter is that Hank knows that he has lost them both and that is why you hear him sigh and breathe so heavily as a signal of distress, throughout the video visit.

Fatherly Concern and Fatherly Advice
He doesn&#8217;t candy coat things. He tells her the truth that her can promise her that they are not going to be easy on her. He tells her to not trust anyone and to only talk to her lawyer.

Towards the end of his video visit, he tells her to sit up, so that he can see her. That is when he begins to cry.

Hank Warns Misty Not to Lie About Haleigh
In the video, He tells Misty that she must not lie with regard to Haleigh and that all of this must Haleigh stuff must stop.

Hank Says He&#8217;ll Always Be There for Misty
No matter how much Hank loves his daughter, will have to deal with the sad fact that he may have lost his daughter for good. He will never be able to tell Misty that he loves her to her face or kiss her or give her a warm fatherly hug because most likely she will never get out of prison.

On a subconscious level, even Misty is aware of this. In her jailhouse visit with her mom Lisa, she leaked out &#8220; It sucks man I hope I don&#8217;t have to be here forever.&#8221; This leakage of information reveals that deep down, Misty knows that she may very well be in prison forever.

Misty is Going Through Various Stages of the Grieving Process

Throughout her jailhouse tapes, you hear her going through various phases of the grieving process.

There is no doubt that as Misty learns she will most likely never come out of prison, she will go through her anger phase and other phases until she finally accepts her fate. In the meantime, I hope she comes clean and tells what really happened to Haleigh.

Before they came to define the troubling story of Cummings' 5-year-old daughter, the pair now jailed on trafficking charges lived in a world surrounded by drugs and marked by mistrust, family and others recalled in interviews.

Ronald
She attributed his ill manners to a bad crowd but found that as her husband - the man Cummings called "Daddy" - worsened and died, her grandson changed, too. "He doesn't really want anybody to be close to him, I don't think," she said.

Cummings never saw much of his birth father, who lives in Putnam County, she said.

"Everything Kirby did at home, Ronald was right with him," Sykes said. "Every step Kirby took." Cummings was never the same after his death in January 2002, she said.

Crystal
In Leesburg, Cummings had lived with his mother and Crystal Sheffield, a 14-year-old who came from Putnam County where she met the year-older Cummings. She said Cummings only worked some and the two lived with his mother until they moved in with Sykes in Putnam before Haleigh was born.

"He just didn't like my family," Sheffield said. "He just kind of kept me away." Sheffield became pregnant with Haleigh at 17. She and Cummings never married but lived with Sykes until their son was born 18 months after Haleigh.

Life with Cummings was difficult, Sheffield said. He was controlling and could be erratic, sometimes with guns. "I've watched him put a gun in his mouth in front of me and Haleigh," she said.

Misty
Croslin was born in Michigan, but the family of five moved to where her father, Hank Croslin Sr., could find drywall work, her parents said. They spent time in Tennessee, her mother's home state, and Colorado before moving to Florida.

When their daughter was in the sixth grade, they were living in Flagler County. "I'd send her to the bus stop," her mother, Lisa Croslin, said. "She'd never get on the bus. If it was a day she wanted to go, she'd go. If it was a day she didn't want to go, she would hide."

"She can't read," her father said. "She was behind in class just like all of us." Reading disabilities run in the family, he said. "I can't read at all," he said.

Saturday, a Hope for Haleigh Prayer Vigil was held at Celebration Park in Glen St. Mary. On Wednesday, a candlelight vigil is planned for Satsuma at Tyler and Monroe streets near where she vanished. ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- From inside the St. Johns County Jail, Tommy Croslin - talked about the missing Haleigh Cummings.

7 phone calls between Tommy Croslin and his brother Timmy have been released.

Tommy tells his brother, "I want to get out of here so bad. I'd do anything to get out of here. I wouldn't sell my soul, but I'd do anything else."



"Misty brought this dude over to the house, alright, and wanted me to get us some roxies. So I [expletive] went and got him some roxies. I called someone I knew and went and got him some pills," Croslin said.


It appears that questioning continues.

Tommy Croslin told his brother over the phone, "The police said, 'You're facing three years in prison unless you help us find Haleigh.' I said, 'I can't help you find nobody. I don't know where she is.'"


Timmy Croslin: You think this, any of this [expletive] would've happened to you if this [expletive] wasn't going on in our life about Haleigh?

Tommy Croslin: No. H*ll no. How long did I do stuff before and nothing happened?

Timmy Croslin: I know. That's what I'm saying. I think they're just out to get us.

For now Tommy Croslin remains in jail in protective custody.

Last week, bounty hunter Leonard Padilla offered to pay Misty's bail if she would reveal any information about Haleigh's disappearance.

News Talk 97.3 The Sky has been waiting all day for the "go" sign from the St. Johns County Jail to pick up the reacted audio of Donna Brock, one of five people who were arrested on drug trafficking charges on January 20, 2010 in Putnam and St. Johns County. As of 5pm ET, the audio had not been completely processed.

Instead, officials at the Putnam County Jail released the latest recorded audio from Ronald Cummings, another one of the suspects in that drug bust and the father of 6-year-old HaLeigh Cummings who was taken from her Satsuma, FL home one year ago and to date has not been found.

Ronald's first call is with a girlfriend and is full of complaints about the jail, the cost of phone calls and a lots of cussing and some inflamatory racial statements regarding a segment of the jail population and some choice names for the jail guards.

*Some of the comments made in these calls are not appropriate for all ears and certain comments made by Ronald will likely not make him very popular with some of the inmates in the Putnam County jail.

NO ENDING FOR SAD STORY

Lingering questions surround the nightmare that turned Putnam County upside down one year ago. Stories of marriage, divorce, drugs and jail ave crept into the mainstream media, twisting the spotlight away from Haleigh Cummings and on her sometimes dysfunctional family.

Croslin is being held in the St. Johns County Jail on eight counts of trafficking with bond set at $1.35 million, and Cummings is being held in the Putnam County Jail on five counts of trafficking with bond set at $900,000.

Investigators say the drug trafficking charges are not related to the Haleigh case, but they are willing to listen to those willing to talk.Despite family drama, investigators insist their purpose is still to find a missing child. Almost 6,000 tips have been received in the past year, Lt. Johnny Greenwood, spokesman for the Putnam County Sheriff&#65533;s Office, said. And the investigation is continues.On Wednesday, a vigil will be held at 6 p.m. near the entrance to the River Villas neighborhood, signifying a united voice in hope to bring Haleigh home. All are welcome to join the family in remembering the girl whose disappearance changed brought unwanted attention to a small, quiet town.

One year ago today, five-year-old Haleigh Cummings woke up and got ready for another day of kindergarten. It's the last time her classmates and teacher at Browning Pearce Elementary in San Mateo have seen her.

That afternoon of February 9, 2009, Haleigh came home and her father, Ronald Cummings, met her at the bus stop.

For several months, investigators have said there are inconsistencies in Misty's story. They say she is the key to cracking the case, which has torn Haleigh's family apart.

Ronald Cummings and Misty Cummings were arrested in January on drug trafficking charges. They are now being held in jail in separate counties.

As many of you know, February 10, 2010 marks the one year anniversary of Haleigh Cummings&#8217; disappearance from her home in Satsuma, Florida. Sheriff Hardy understands the public&#8217;s interest in this investigation, and everyone&#8217;s desire for the return of Haleigh to her family. Sheriff&#8217; Hardy has asked that the following information be released to the public in an effort to provide insight into the investigative efforts being taken to bring this case to a logical conclusion.

The disappearance of Haleigh Cummings is still being considered an &#8220;active&#8221; investigation, and a team of detectives are currently assigned to this case. Investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff&#8217;s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and investigators from agencies throughout the country have invested thousands of man-hours into this investigation thus far.

Here are some of the facts:

*We have received 5,768 leads, all of which have been followed up on by investigators.

*Approximately 600 of the leads received have come from psychics or individuals claiming to have special abilities. All of these leads have been reviewed by investigators, and leads containing specific information that can be verified have been followed up on.

*The majority of the leads received are suggestions or opinions from citizens stating who they believe is responsible for Haleigh&#8217;s disappearance, and/or how the investigation should be conducted. These types of leads are reviewed by the investigative team, but many of these require little or no follow up investigation.

*We have conducted formal interviews with 76 different individuals who were identified as having possible information in the Haleigh investigation. DNA samples were collected from many of those interviewed and compared to evidence collected in the case.

*218 separate interviews have been either audio or video recorded by investigators.
When situations have dictated, investigators have traveled out of state to conduct these interviews.

*We have received 644 reported Haleigh sightings from various cities and locations throughout the United States. Investigators have either personally determined that these were false sightings, or asked for assistance from local law enforcement agencies where the alleged sightings took place to follow up on the information. To date, none of the reported sightings have been determined to be credible.

*FDLE processed the crime scene. Many items of potential evidentiary value were collected and sent to FDLE&#8217;s crime lab for analysis (i.e. for fingerprints and DNA). All of evidence has been examined and/or processed, but none of it has identified any suspect or additional leads as to who the suspect(s) may be.

*We have searched thousands of acres, including all property south of Highway 17 near the Cummings residence.

*We have had numerous underwater recovery and search teams search all of the water near the area of the disappearance.

*Aviation assets have conducted several airborne searches.

*K9 assets have searched the area on several occasions.

*Volunteer civilian searchers on foot and horseback searched the wooded areas near the residence.

As previously released, it is very unlikely that Haleigh&#8217;s disappearance is the work of a stranger. Evidence and information obtained during this investigation indicate a strong likelihood that Haleigh&#8217;s disappearance is the result of foul play by someone known to Misty Croslin and/or Ronald Cummings. There is no specific individual whom investigators have identified as a person of interest. Investigators still believe that Misty Croslin holds important answers in this case. She still refuses to provide any sort of detailed accounting of the hours during the late evening and early morning of Haleigh&#8217;s disappearance. Furthermore, physical evidence at the scene contradicts Misty&#8217;s sketchy account of her evening activities. Investigators ask that anyone with direct knowledge of Misty&#8217;s activities during that evening of February 9, 2009, or into the early morning of February 10, 2009, is encouraged to report that information to the Putnam County Sheriff&#8217;s Office. The recent arrests of Misty Croslin, Ronald Cummings, Hank Thomas Croslin Jr., Hope Sykes, and Donna Brock, on drug trafficking charges have caused some media outlets to question the intentions behind these arrests. Sheriff Hardy wants to assure the public that these narcotic cases were not a result of the Haleigh investigation. Independent information was received by narcotics detectives that these individuals were unlawfully selling prescription medications. The State Attorney&#8217;s Office was consulted at the onset of the narcotics investigation, and it was recommended that the missing person case and the narcotics cases remain totally separate to avoid legal conflicts in both cases. The Haleigh investigative team was not made aware of the narcotics cases until January 20, 2010, just prior to all five individuals being arrested.

Investigators assigned to Haleigh Cummings&#8217; disappearance have interviewed these five (5) individuals in the past, some on multiple occasions. However, investigators will take advantage of every opportunity given to speak with any individual who possibly holds information regarding Haleigh&#8217;s disappearance.

Sheriff Hardy realizes the importance of keeping Haleigh in the spotlight and the public involved in this case. He appreciates all of the leads and tips that have been provided, and wants to assure everyone that each lead and tip is acted on by investigators. Sheriff Hardy wants to reassure the public, but mainly Haleigh&#8217;s family, that we will continue to aggressively pursue this case until Haleigh is found.

The original Putnam County incident report stated that deputies Nelson and Bridges arrived at the home of HaLeigh's father , Ronald Cummings, at Hermit's Cove in Satsuma, FL at approximately 3:40 a.m. February 10, 2009. Deputy Nelson wrote in the report that Ronald was standing in the driveway and was visibly upset.

Who might have taken her remains unanswered. Police believe this to be a non-stranger abduction.

February 5, 2010, WSKY asked Haleigh's grandmother Marie Griffis if rumors were true about Haleigh's mom Crystal Sheffield regarding the recent failure of a drug test. Ms. Griffis wrote to WSKY in an email that must have been very painful to write that the what we'd heard was true, but that Crystal and Ron's son Ron Jr. was still at her home in Baker County.

Wednesday marks the 1-year anniversary of the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings from her Satsuma home.

Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy said the case is still under active investigation and a team of investigators are still assigned to the case.

According to the Sheriff's Office, investigators have followed up on all 5,768 leads in the case, 600 of which came from psychics.

Investigators have interviewed 76 people believed to possibly have information about Haleigh's disappearance.

Of 644 reported sightings of the girl, investigators have determined none of them to be credible.

Hardy said it is very unlikely that Haleigh's disappearance is the work of a stranger, but rather the result of foul play by someone known to Croslin or Cummings.

Haleigh Cummings was 5 when she disappeared from her Satsuma home in February.

Authorities are using today's one-year anniversary of the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings to ask the public for any information about the case -- particularly information involving Misty Croslin, the teenager who was tending to Haleigh at the time the child vanished.

"Investigators still believe that Misty Croslin holds important answers in this case," Putnam County Sheriff's Lt. Johnny Greenwood said in a release Tuesday.

"She still refuses to provide any sort of detailed accounting of the hours during the late evening and early morning of Haleigh&#8217;s disappearance," Greenwood continued. "Furthermore, physical evidence at the scene contradicts Misty&#8217;s sketchy account of her evening activities."

Meanwhile, a vigil will be held today a short distance from the Satsuma home in southeastern Putnam County from which Haleigh vanished. It will start at 6 p.m. at the corner of Tyler Street and Monroe Avenue.

Family members of Cummings and Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, are expected to attend. A similar vigil was held Saturday in Glen St. Mary in Baker County, where Sheffield lives.

About 76 people who were identified as having possible information were formally interviewed. DNA samples were collected from many of them. Investigators made audio or video recordings of 218 separate interviews, the Sheriff's Office reported.
