Flame of Innocence

This isn’t about Michael Rafferty, or Terri-Lynne McClintic either – this is about Tori Stafford. How better to honor her memory than to ensure, as she asked one of her kidnappers moments before her death, someone doesn’t “do it again”?

There was no one around in a rural area of Mount Forest to hear Tori's screams, and cries for help, on April 8th 2009.

She has an audience now, and should not be ignored.

Tori had to live it, we're being asked only to listen.

Tori Stafford murder trial: Drug-addled McClintic offered to take fall for beau

“I remember I touched his face. He looked up and laughed at me. And he said, ‘you’ll do anything for a little bit of love, eh?’”

In the courtroom, Rafferty must have found this recollection amusing. He snorted from the defendant’s dock. And then he smiled; more a sneer, really, creasing his flabby cheeks.

Stafford trial watches McClintic's police interview

The jury had watched portions of the video last week but had been cautioned
by
Justice Thomas Heeney that they couldn't use the videotape as evidence in the case against Rafferty.

But Justice Heeney told jurors Wednesday morning that jurors can now consider the statement as part of the evidence. However, Heeney reminded jurors that what McClintic said in the police interview is not considered sworn testimony.

Tori Stafford murder trial: Judge changes instructions to jury on McClintic’s confession video

by Rosie Dimanno

LONDON, ONT.—In the self-referential way of a self-absorbed teenage girl with a huge propensity for self-aggrandizing rants, Terri-Lynne McClintic routinely signed off on letters to friends from inside stir as: “We murderuz *****ez.’’

Blatchford: McClintic had no reason to lie about Tori's slaughter (video)

Though the jurors don't have to determine who actually killed Tori in order to reach a verdict here, one question remains, not fully answered either by McClintic in the witness box or in the May 24 video: Why on Earth would she have bothered to lie about which of them was the killer when by both accounts, she surely sunk herself, and so seriously implicated Rafferty?
