Mel Gibson makes the Frigid 50

No, I do not consider him "Christlike." Oh nevermind :banghead:
I am exaggerating your position perhaps to make a point, just as someone else exaggerated my position and a few other posters by the "Crucify him" trip.

If you are biased in favor of Mel you want the natural consequences of Mel's poor behavior to go away ASAP. Does that more accurately represent your view.

BTW What's the difference between Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson? Both have foot and mouth disease. Both say things against large groups of people.

If anyone has been "crucified" at WS its Tom Cruise. His thread goes on and on.

What's the difference? Tom is a Scientologist, Mel is a Catholic. Tom gets more heat than Mel and he wasn't even arrested.

BTW I wouldn't pay good money to see either of them in a movie.

Good point. And you may or not have noticed that I have never posted on that thread. In fact, I'm not sure I've even read more than two or three posts.
I have no "bias" toward Mel Gibson. I do think he's very handsome and I like the fact that he's still married to the mother of his children. That's difficult in society at large, nearly impossible in the microcosm of Hollywood. He made some stupid remarks. Probably no worse than evreyone of us done.

You do not know Mel Gibson personally but you obviously have a favorable bias toward him to consider him Christlike enough that a crucifixion analogy over the publicity and negative consequence of his actions works for you.
The reason I used the crucifixion example was for the very purpose of getting you to admit he's "hardly Jesus."

Heh. It worked, didn't it?

There were THREE crosses on that infamous day. Jesus hung on one of them. The other two were ordinary men who committed ordinary crimes. Actually, I'd put Mel Gibon in that category. An ordinary man who makes mistakes -- just like you and me.

That's easy. Only one of them has acknowledged his boorish behavior. :D

Tom is clearly off his rocker but I have never heard of him saying hateful things about someone.

Did he call them horrible names? No I dont think he did. There is a big difference in that. Tom not agreeing with someone taking meds does not seem "hateful" to me. :twocents:

Windovervocalcords and Nova: quite agree--I still see him as an absolute disgrace, poisoned in part by his father---He definitely does need to visit that Museum Of Tolerance....but it still won't help his public image much---What he said will haunt his career forever
Good! I see him as an 🤬🤬🤬*ing anti-semite!!!

His apologies were phony, not genuine in the least, much like those of Michael Richards.

All you have to do is look at this eyes; he looks crazy.

Gibson's Apocalypto made $15 million to reach #1 at the weekend's box office, besting most forecasts and surprising many people. I expect this film to have legs because of word of mouth and the curiosity factor. I guess Disney's strategy to market it as "mel gibson's apocalypto" paid off.

I wouldn't be surprised if this made north of $50 million domestic and double that overseas. With a budget of only $40 million, a healthy profit will be made on this film, especially when you add later DVD sales and rentals.

I don't think he really belongs in the Frigid 50...

Depends on whether all that's important is that another violent movie makes money.

The movie is actually doing rather poorly compared to many other films this year, and it got withering reviews--Some critics say Gibson has lost it in that he continues to go overboard with extreme violence and brutality--I couldn't believe the things I was reading about in the LA Times re: the violence in the film---He definitely needs an extended stay at a nice peaceful place

I've read horrible things about the amount and nature of the violence. Like you need to take a "barf bag" along.

Also, according to a professor of Latin American culture here, it isn't even accurate - depicts the Mayan culture to be different from how they actually were, and neglects to point out ways in which they were highly advanced at the time.

The whole point of it seems to be how brutal and voilent people can be, and that advanced civilizations fall. Like what else is new?

"Barf bag" seems to be my reaction to Gibson and his films lately.

By that reasoning so does the rest of Hollywood, noone does violence quite like Hollywood does.

He's apologized repeatedly for his drunken behavior. He's getting help for his alcoholism.

And the crowd shouted: Crucify him!!!!!!!!!!
You got it.

Let's stone him to death.

That's the trouble. Gibson acts and speaks as though other people are out to get him; they made him drive drunk and spew hate speech. It's the "poor me" syndrome. He was sooooo conflicted over the reaction to Passion of the Christ, forget the zillions in profit and the new directorial opportunities.

Poor Mel. Just can't do anything right.

"Oh they stone ya when you try to be so good. They stone ya just like I said they would. They stone when you're riding in your car, they stone when you're playin your guitar...
"But I would not feel so all alone. Everybody must get stoned."
