I am at a loss for the time she was spending at the church tho. Was it because of the freedom it allowed her to come and go? Was she doing drugs?

What was her real connection with the church? Did she go overboard into religion? Could this have been a "ritual" killing?

I would like to know, too. The local paper said LE confirmed that Sandra was murdered in the church.. Apparently Melissa felt very comfortable there.

Maybe. It would back up what I recall hearing that her child was not home the day Sandra went missing, too. If she was picked up the same day Sandra went missing to go on vacation with her grandmother...it would make sense. Perhaps she went to spend the night with her so they could leave early the next morning.

This would mean the entire story about Sandra's sister babysitting her daughter was a lie. I have also heard that Connie was not at home either so she could not have made the phone call about the cell phone. I would like to get confirmation on both of those things.

It really does sound like Connie and her grandaughter may had already left. ITA about Sandra's sister babysitting is probably another lie Melissa told the media. It's a head scratcher that she told so many lies that could easily be debunked.

CBS/AP) CBS News has learned that police in Tracy believe 8-year-old Sandra Cantu was murdered in the church where her accused killer was a Sunday school teacher.

Melissa Huckaby, 28, was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with kidnapping and murder.

Sorry for changing the subject a bit, does anyone know how big the home(s) were? Like how it was done on Ca's case. Maybe not that indepth, but bedrooms. I will check Zillow tomorrow. It was a bittersweet day today. Loved the family, but so sad for both families. RIP Sandra. May this never happen again.

Talking about Melissa's daughter is like reliving my childhood. I didn't have the best childhood and my mom was alcoholic and wacked. Up until the time I was about 10 and became too independent for my mom to control, she wouldn't let me outside much to play with any other kids. I can only recall a couple of them being allowed in my house to play. Looking back I realize now that it was a way for my mom to keep secrets in the house and keep me to herself. She was a very depressed and miserable person and had no friends but me. Ironic to say that because she treated me like crap. And I think my mom had munchausens(sp). I suffered from mysterious illnesses and was very sickly for no apparent reason. I really hate to say that about my mom, but she had problems.

I am glad they are there for the little girl. She needs them right now as I am sure this must be very difficult for her to understand. Her world has just been shattered and there is no telling what Melissa has told her about Sandra. :( I wish her the best and hope her health improves with some TLC from her father and step mom.

OK, I've gone back in this thread and read some posts that were traveling at warp speed, LOL. This thead was really burning up yesterday..
Someone ( forgive me. I don't remember who) said maybe Melissa killed Sandra because she disliked children.

When I read that, I was thinking " What about her own little daughter?"

Now we read that the little girl M., was not allowed outside, possibly due to allergies ( per Melissa) and is very thin ( also per Melissa).

Then I read about 2 different hospital/ medical bills, at least part of the bills due to medical care received for the child, per the Kansas newspaper.

Next, the grandmother, Judy, takes M. out of the home, either to a church conference type event, a vacation, or to her father's house.. Various reports have had conflicting statements on where Melissa's daughter went.

(Edited to say that this leave-taking appears to have taken place at least 1 day after the murder happened. So, I still do not know what Connie and little M. may have seen, or heard, or what Connie may know.)

Maybe the family didn't want Melissa in any more legal trouble right now from reporting her to CPS, so they made arrangements to take the great GD away from the situation briefly.

So, what does everyone think the liklihood is that Melissa hasn't hurt her own child, too? It's impossible for her to only be mentally ill while around Sandra, or only possibly using drugs when Sandra was present. Whatever's wrong with Melissa, whether a mental disorder or substance abuse or both, her own child has been living with a child killer.
A child killer who also drugged a child in the past, possibly Sandra...

So, what makes people think no one else involved?

That scenario wouldn't fit since Connie had no reason to suspect anything the day Sandra went missing so would not expect DCF or any legal trouble to come to her home or to Melissa, imo. The vacation sounds preplanned and not part of any plot to hide her greatgrandchild.

As far as Melissa harming her child, this will remain to be seen. She should be checked out medically and be taken to a qualified psychologist arranged for by the TPD to be interviewed, imo. At five years old, she is old enough to answer questions and could provide them a wealth of information on Melissa.

At this point gibby, I am not sure and only hope tomorrow brings some new answers. My mind is going everywhere. JMO

Sgt. Tony Sheneman gave a very definitive sense of closure in a statement I saw earlier today. He is glad it is over. This tells me he is certain they have the right person in custody and no further arrests are looming. (He also has said this, too.)

We will get a few answers on Tuesday at the hearing.

I meant to get the little girl out of Melissa's orbit. Because of her mental problems possibly getting worse recently.

Edited to add- It is now reported that Melissa's MOTHER, not her grandmother, took little M. to a church conference or meeting out of town the day after the murder occurred. The family has said this was a planned trip. IDK how far in advance " planning" occurred.
If this is the truth, then we still do not know what Connie Lawless and little M. may have heard or seen regarding Sandra's presence at the Lawless MH immediately prior to and also after the time the murder occurred at the neaby church.

However, it seems to me that another reason for removing little M. at that time would have been because her own mother may have been acting out, doing questionable or harmful things to her own child. IDK, of course, but I am hoping that little M hasn't been harmed or drugged over a period of time too. I still wonder and am concerned about little 5 year old M.'s general well-being.

I hope the probable cause statement is released at that time.
It should be along with the SWs and other statements in order to formally charge her. Sgt. T. Sheneman alluded to them being unsealed on Tuesday for court.

I don't think a male perpetrator would be dumb enough to get involved with this woman. She got herself questioned about the other little girl who was drugged, got herself arrested for shoplifting from Target and the other crimes, and has a big mouth. As far as Melissa's family, it's been said that they weren't really even home at the time. I doubt if Melissa was ever mistreated badly or sexually abused either.
