Yes, very odd.
How does a church that has only 15 members and has not had a service in two years also have an active Sunday school class?

From some of the reports I've read, there was hardly ever any activity at that church.

BTW, great site! I've visited several times but decided to join today.

Hi Joe and WELCOME to WS!

Melissa was a substitute sunday school teacher at her grandfather's church I believe. At least it was not the church down the road that was the crime scene. I read that on Blink.com

Happy Easter, GS!:blowkiss:

Actually I was wondering just the opposite.

It seems Sandra may have been everything that MH was not. She was friendly, outgoing, upbeat and showed the signs that many people loved her. MHs grandmother talked about how they thought of Sandra and Sandra's sister as their own children. The grandmother talked about how Sandra loved to do chores for her inside her home.

Maybe MH resented Sandra for being who she was and loved by so many including Melissa's own family.

imo

I think this is a good intuition. Particularly in light of the account of MH's parents (via Emmabelle) taking in a younger child when MH was a teen. MH's complaint's of being unwanted and in the way might be related to anger at being supplanted by a younger child who gains love, affection, and attention MH wished to have directed to herself.

As you know the legal definition of insanity has little to do with actual mental soundness. Knowing that she did wrong, planning, and hiding her crime don't exclude the possibility that she was psychotic/delusional about Sandra Cantu. The manic or schixophrenic may create a delusion to account for serious negative emotions being experienced them, and project an explanation for negative feelings onto other persons to account for those feelings.

My theory is that MH was enormously angry, resentful or even jealous of Cantu, and became fixated on the notion that Cantu was a wicked, dangerous influence on her daughter, even demonic in reaction to the resentment and jealousy, because MH is mentally ill. And MH took an opportunity to eliminate the perceived source of MH's bad feelings.

The 911 came in at 7:53, this has been widely reported and verified by TPD. Here is just one as an example:

http://abcnews.go.com/US/Story?id=7296312&page=4

Quote from article:

Sheneman said police got a 911 call from the family at 7:53 p.m.

I think the confusion is that maybe the search started for her at 8:15

Does anybody else know of a family where the kids could not come out to play ever? That seems so very strange to me.

I think she could be mistaken on some of her information. ;)

Yeah, I was wrong, she just clarified that with me she stated that the 911 call was made at 7:53 and the search began at 8:15 and by that time it was to late.

 feels like a real dummy, LOL. I must state I am still trying to learn this, they still amaze me thou!!!!
It is OK! I just wanted to clarify the discrepancy tho. They are amazing! I am going to have to start keeping up with our amazing astro threads! Wow! I had NO idea since I am not big into Astrology.

No. This would have raised serous questions with me as a mom. I would have been inquiring quickly as to the reasons her daughter didn't come to my home to play on a regular basis if my daughter were going to her house.

Welcome to WS, Joe! :)

I don't think we know exactly what was taking place at the church as far as services and bible study groups etc. The lack of cars in the parking lot during those times could be attributed to people walking to the church so the "activity" would seem very minimal to the neighbors. It is possible they had something for the children set up during the bible studies they termed as "sunday school" which Melissa was teaching.
Very early on, as events were unfolding, I (vaguely) recall the statement about activity at the church being mentioned by a bystander (again, I think) maybe from the JW church across the street.

I don't recall any other specific statements concerning it's frequency of use. Could it be that all the subsequent discussion is derived from this?

Do we have any other attributable statements on the subject?

I hope someone is finding out why MH's 5 year old is so thin and sick a lot.

My bet is...after a lawyer gets hod of MH, we'll hear she heard voices tell her to kill Sandra. Maybe even PPD left over from the birth of her daughter. Whatever....I'm positive we'll see mental illness for the excuse.

Maybe that form of PPD involving obsessions and compulsions. Severe allergies? Perhaps but maybe she had a fixation with purity/contamination.

Since mental incompetence was asserted in Mh's defence in her burglary/theft charges, and mental health treatment apparently part of her court-compelled "penalty" , perhaps she was stealing out of compulsion.

Bolded by me... I was wondering the same thing because I hadn't seen any.

Very Interesting... especially if you consider it with the comment you made in your next post regarding the connection between MH's severe allergies and a possible obsession with "purity/contamination".

Huckaby is the granddaughter of Lane Lawless, the pastor of Clover Road Baptist Church. On Friday, Tracy police and the FBI searched the church and the surrounding area for a second time looking for evidence in Sandra's death. Huckaby teaches Sunday school at the church.

EXCERPT:
No one in the neighborhood surrounding Orchard Estates said they attend the Baptist church. About a dozen neighbors said they don't know anyone who does, and that it has a tiny congregation.

Folks from a Jehovah's Witness church across the street from Lawless' church said they've never talked to anyone from the congregation. Pastors, members and elders of a handful of other churches in northern Tracy said the same thing.

Rape may be alleged in Sandra Cantu killing

TRACY, Calif. (AP) -- Prosecutors say they're considering rape and molestation allegations against the woman suspected of killing an 8-year-old Northern California girl and putting her body in a suitcase.

Twenty-eight-year-old Melissa Huckaby has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and murdering Sandra Cantu.

San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Robert Himmelblau told The Associated Press Monday that a homicide charge against Huckaby could also include the special circumstances of rape with a foreign object, lewd and lacivious conduct with a child and murder in the course of a kidnapping.
