* The Mary Ann Powell Case - In the spring of 1996, a year and a half after a pregnant Mary Ann Powell was reported missing by her husband Warren, her body turned up in a bag embedded in an ice chunk floating in the Hudson River. Performing the autopsy, Dr. Barbara Chaitin determined that she had been strangled. Inside the bag were 90 pounds of rocks, as well as maple seed pods that Dr. Norman Weeden (an associate professor of plant genetics at Cornell) determined came from a tree at the apartment complex where the Powells lived. After Dr. Martin Glicksman discovered ribbed marks on a family boat seat matching those on the bag, Warren Powell was arrested. The professor for the criminal justice class Warren Powell had been taking at a community college remembered telling his class about a "perfect" crime: One fisherman kills another, weighs down the body, and waits for fish to devour the evidence. Warren Powell was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to 25 years to life.

And, that, is a very good point. The fine line while looking for ratings.The victims are there....whether it is loyality, economics or just plain survival. There is always someone to take advantage.

Rob Marshall killed his wife Maria.



Rob Marshall, a well-to-do New Jersey businessman, was knocked unconscious at a picnic area, and Maria, his wife, was killed. Police investigation led to Marshall's trial. Joe McGinnis penned "Blind Faith" after this story.

It is heartbreaking the loss of all these women and children!

I wonder, in how many of these murders were there previous signs of violence by the husband? In many cases it's reported that no one had any idea there were problems in the marriage and the husband had never before been violent or even in trouble with the law.

Many of the Scotty supporters refuse to believe he's guilty because he was always known to be "kind and supportive" and had never had so much as a traffic ticket. How rare (or common) is that?

David McGowan, Riverside, Ca. killed his mother, wife and 3 children while they were asleep in their beds, before committing suicide in May, 2005. He was a well respected investigator and former policeman; she previously worked as a fireman. Motive remains unknown as there were no known family or financial problems.

It was Eric's idea — a romantic cruise off the Newport Beach, CA coast to belatedly celebrate their anniversary and her birthday. But by nightfall, Pegye was missing and Eric was sobbing uncontrollably in front of local news cameras. Her body was never found and it appeared to be a tragic accident. As police investigated Pegye's disappearance, they began to suspect a boating accident might be a case of homicide.

Mark Barton was the day trader. He later killed himself. He is also suspected of killing his first wife and her mother.
