Hmmm... makes me think 'innocent'? I wouldn't think there would be any chaos/backlash if they upheld the guilty verdict. Any thoughts on that or do y'all just think it's a standard precaution?

Can't decide what I think is going to happen here, but I just have this feeling it is not going to go in favor of Amanda.

:waitasec: I have been wondering if the Italian Judicial System will "cave in" because of the "pressure" from the US Media and the Knox's "PR Spin Team" ?

I hope they do not "cave in" to the US Press and the FOA PR campaign ...

If you are INNOCENT ... then WHY does one HIRE a PR firm ? :banghead:

MOO ...

I think Raffaele gets overlooked as well. I found his statement last night very genuine and moving.

Yes. But Bellimom was making the point, I think, that the American public overwhelmingly believe in Knox or are interested in her case, in part because she is a young, white American girl. I'll add that I think they are interested in her over there due to the salacious manner in which she was portrayed by the prosecution. Some anti-American sentiment might be at play as well. But not sure if the majority of Italians believe in her or not. She's just much more colorful than Sallecito, IMO.

This is, and has always been a convoluted case due to the diffence in legal systems and language - as well as other things. We can bet on having a lot of light shed on the case if there is an aquittal. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing. I too, have wavered....

I have too. I really believed she was guilty, then was on the fence and now lean toward "no way". I can tell you, though, as a non-native speaker of a different language, I fully understand the difficulty of communicating in a foreign language when one is not yet fluent or just learning. Even after much fluency has been attained, it is very difficult. One does not realize the nuance of language, the subtlety, until one tries to communicate in a different tongue.

As an attorney, I realize that all the more. I am pretty fluent in Spanish - my dad is from there, both parents are fluent and I could and have lived in Spain speaking only Spanish with no problems. But, I refuse to take Spanish-speaking clients because when I have tried, although I can communicate with them, I have realized the subtle nuances to expression, when dealing with sensitive areas, persuasive speech, etc., and I do not feel capable of communicating detailed legal issues to a client, despite my fluency, because language is not always just about saying something. It's also about delivery, psychology, sensitivity. And without a 100% grasp of the language, even with fluency, things can be lost or misunderstood or not explained fully.

I cannot imagine Knox, at age 20, with only a few months of Italian under her belt, undergoing a criminal interrogation. Only an immigrant or non-native speaker of another language would understand what I mean.

Oh I wasn't necessarily disagreeing, just adding that Raf is also overshadowed.

I will add that her parents have done an excellent job of creating awareness for her, and the strange nature of this case has certainly garnered a lot of attention all on its own.

So curious to see what happens today...too bad my class is arriving in less than ten minutes...I'm gonna be one distracted teacher today!

I've gone back and forth on this case and still can't make up my mind for certain.
Unfortunately, as 2Goldfish indicates above, a verdict won't necessarily help me make up my mind as I, too, am wary after the Casey Anthony debacle.

Dang it, I'm not even as.......vocal and interested in this case as a lot of you are and I'm sitting here nervously....can't imagine how the families are doing right now!
And, WS is awesome, regardless of which "side" we land on here. :)

I don't know. What's popular opinion on this case in Italy? I see a lot of Italian posters on CNN or youtube, whatever and while some think she is guilty the majority I have seen think she's not. But you can't trust posters to CNN or youtube to give an accurate representation of what a population thinks.

I think there are 2 of the 4 options that would be beneficial to Amanda: innocent, or guilty but sentenced to time-served. Isn't the latter also an option or not? The other two are uphold current sentence or change to life? Or do I have it wrong?

TIA!
