I'm happy to know the FBI is helping. Hopefully they'll find him quickly.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said the agency has offered assistance but is not leading the investigation.

"That's their jurisdiction," Eimiller said Tuesday. "We have to defer to Mexican authorities."

Ty for the update @GuyfromCanada.

The head prosecutor in the state of Baja California, Hiram Sanchez, says the missing firefighter from Los Angeles is likely the victim of a “violent kidnapping.”

Francisco Aguilar, 48, was last heard from about two weeks ago when he went to his Northern Baja condo to check on his property.

“We are working with technical personnel to establish his last instance when his freedom was taken,” Sanchez said. “We have found a lot of evidence that leads us to believe this was an act of violence, nevertheless we have not determined for sure this is what happened to him.”

According to investigators, surveillance cameras recorded people inside Aguilar’s condo when he was “forceably taken.” They claim to be in the process of identifying the suspects but have not released how many people are involved or who they might be.

The former Los Angeles Fire Department firefighter was traveling to his condo in Rosarito, which is a coastal city in Mexico less than 20 miles near the Baja, California border, for a brief trip, ABC 7 reported.

North Baja investigators have now indicated that foul play and violence took place in the man’s condo leading up to his disappearance, the station added. Officials expressed that Aguilar, 48, may have been “forcibly taken,” ABC 7 said.

Missing LAFD Firefighter Probable Victim of ‘Violent Kidnapping' in Mexico, Mayor Garcetti Says

Aguilar had been on medical leave from the LA Fire Department since March and was living part-time in Rosarito, Mexico, where he was last heard from on Aug. 20.

His family said Aguilar was supposed to meet someone near his condo and even sent a pin-drop so a friend would know the location he was going to, but never returned.

“We don’t know what we would do without him. It’s just so crazy that this is even happening in the first place, but we really just need him to come home. Like, right now,” sisters Bella and Anaris Aguilar said through tears.

The FBI was also aiding in efforts to find Aguilar after his family filed a missing persons report with Tijuana police.

Why anyone would cross the border into these towns in today's climate is beyond me.

Very concerned for this man. Cartels and gangs are ruthless in Mexico.
People also get kidnapped for ransom, and I think that might be the best scenario here as he would likely at least still be alive.
I believe he might be of Mexican heritage (not sure, maybe), and speaks Spanish, and if so, hopefully that will help him in some way.

Family of Firefighter Waits for Answers on Possible ‘Violent Kidnapping'

"I want to say very clearly to anybody who would kidnap a member of our fire department that this is a member of not just of our city, government, family but of our community here in Los Angeles," Garcetti said.

Garcetti said, in response to reporters' questions, that he had no other information on the matter but will speak with federal authorities and LAFD Chief Ralph Terrazas more about the incident.

"We will work tirelessly to make sure that Frank is returned safely," Garcetti said. "This is somebody who has put his life on the line for us, and we will do everything in our power … to ensure that law enforcement in Mexico has whatever support it needs."

More information on the events leading up to Aguilar’s disappearance has surfaced, leaving the family even more concerned. Mexican media reported that authorities said Aguilar was seen in a bar with the people who may be responsible for his disappearance.

“We had not known about the people at the bar, whether they were the last people he had seen,” his daughter said.

When the entire family decided to travel to the condo to look for information, Bella said they also found a bloody T-shirt nearby.

“It was a Huntington Beach Fire Department T-shirt, [and] the sleeves were cut-off,” she said. “They had confirmed that the DNA was human blood, but we have not been asked to test for DNA to see if that was my dad’s. To my knowledge, he’s never had a t-shirt like that.”

L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti has also offered resources to help in the investigation. The family is hoping to get the state’s help as well.
