If Jenny hasn't passed on, and is still somewhere in the Oaxaca area, the only place I can imagine her to be is somewhere associated with the church. (Unless being held captive as a worker in a brothel). I could see them giving her refuge, especially if she told them she was trying to escape some form of real or perceived abuse. Otherwise, unless she has left the country, I can't see her being able to find anyway to get work to take care of herself. In that area, jobs are scarce, and locals line up by the hundreds to get a housekeeper job at a resort. Jenny may have thought she was getting real with the people with her tamale adventure, but in reality, that type of behavior would be greatly frowned upon and perceived as disrespectful. Mexico is no place to go "adventuring", and most especially in the indigenous areas like Oaxaca.

Further, to be blunt, you don't see many Asian people in Mexico. You really don't. I can't say with certainty whether Jenny would be well received or not.
So if Jenny hasn't passed on, or isn't being given sanctuary by one of the local churches, I can't imagine where she would be for this long. I was pondering if maybe she ventured as far as Belize or Guatemala.
But certainly the odds are she will be found (if not disposed of in the sea) within a mile or so of where she was last seen getting in the Corona truck. : (

Chinese tourists, in general, have a particular manner that rubs most Westerners I know the wrong way :-(

You make some very good points. Even beyond the belief that traveling solo is safe, I think Jenny had very unrealistic beliefs about what was appropriate. Not to blame the victim, but lack of common sense and cultural understanding can get you in trouble anywhere.
Although my friend Google tells me that the Chinese have a very long history in Mexico, they are mostly gathered in Mexico City and Mexicali. She would be quite alien in Oaxaca IMO. Unless she sought work from a Chinese business somewhere, I can't see that she could find work either. I doubt her sense of adventure would take her anywhere near fellow Chinese.

I've wondered about Belize and Guatamala too. But according to her own words on Weibo, she seemed to be sticking to her travel plans right up to the point of allegedly getting on the Corona truck. So I agree that she will be found somewhat nearby.

Sorry to say, just reading some of her posts and looking at her intrusive photographs greatly annoyed me, so I agree that she could easily have ended up in a very dangerous situation (worse than almost being raped, as she reported) if she tried that with the wrong person. She certainly upset the very poor family she (over)stayed with, as she reported on her Weibo blog, to the point that they asked her to leave. If she was confrontational with police, and "something happened," that could explain the reluctance to investigate that JR complains about.

Again, not blaming the victim, but actions and attitudes can put anyone at risk of being harmed, even though it doesn't take that for a bad person to harm someone.

Sadly, young people of both genders are often victims, because they're inexperienced with the world, and cruel people take advantage of that. Or it's cruel nature, that doesn't protect people when, for example, they walk too close to the edge of a cliff, as happened again in my area yesterday, this time to a 21 year old man.

The latest from JR. The police are finally doing some work and if they stay focused (he says big IF) there should be some information from the Corona drivers in the next couple of weeks that will narrow the search for Jenny. He is remaining positive and hopeful.

Sadly, young people of both genders are often victims, because they're inexperienced with the world, and cruel people take advantage of that. Or it's cruel nature, that doesn't protect people when, for example, they walk too close to the edge of a cliff, as happened again in my area yesterday, this time to a 21 year old man.

That's a very sad and horrifying story about the two young women in traveling in Ecuador. My condolences to their families and friends. They became the prey of cruel men.

But I'm afraid the Facebook post mentioned in the article kind of pushes my buttons, so I apologize in advance for writing a book. I do have to disagree that pointing out how the victim (these women and possibly Jenny) naively put themselves in dangerous situations is "blaming the victim" for their own deaths. Obviously, someone bad probably took advantage of Jenny (and these two women) and the bad person is clearly to blame. If it hadn't been the two Austalian women or probably Jenny, it might have been someone else. But pointing out risks taken that shouldn't have been taken might make other women think twice about how they travel and what risks they take. It might prevent another woman from suffering the same fate. I just don't see that as blaming the victim, unless it's done with the intent to be hurtful IMO.

The truth is that women are more vulnerable than men, both physically and culturally. To act as if that disparity doesn't exist and not take appropriate precautions is unwise. In a perfect world, a solo woman should be able to travel safely alone. But we all know this isn't a perfect world and there are predators who view women as prey. Likewise, it would be nice to be able to go on a hike without taking precautions where mountain lions are known to hunt. But a sensible person will educate themselves about the risk and either avoid the area or take precautions. It's no different for women (and even men) traveling in areas known to be risky.

It may not seem "fair" that they have to take precautions just because we live in a world where women are prey. But I'd rather be alive than try to make a point that the world shouldn't be this way and that just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I shouldn't take whatever risks I want without potential consequences. One or two women idealistically traveling where it's risky or taking risks isn't going to change the culture. And none of this means that women have to stay home. It just means they need to be alert and careful, even more so when they are naive and inexperienced. JMO

All that being said, I was once young and naive and inexperienced. I took different risks, and if harm had come to me, I like to think that people would be kind. But I also like to think that I would have acknowledged that the risks I took may have contributed to putting me in a position where harm could come my way. I hope I learned from my mistakes, and I hope women learn from the mistakes of others so they can minimize their risk until the world becomes perfectly safe for all.

On the coast of Oregon, people are killed along the cliffs or by sneaker waves because they ignore the signs telling them to stay back. I hope that isn't what happened to the young man mentioned above and that it was a freak accident. But if he ignored a sign, it's not nature being cruel, it's a human being stupid. As sad as these deaths are, in these cases the victims are responsible for their own deaths.

Yes, Chinese tourists even have a bad reputation for being rude, pushy, and abrasive in the rest of Asia. In Thailand I saw signs at hotels and restaurants specifically directed toward Chinese visitors warning them not to spit, cut in line, etc. It sounds super stereotypical and racist but if you google "rude Chinese tourists" there is a lot of information about this cultural phenomenon. I agree with others that Jenny's posts from Mexico often seemed quite insensitive. I admire her adventurous spirit but traveling tends to go the best when you're willing to be humble, observant, gracious, and more of a listener than a talker.

Police set up shop in a massage parlor business formerly called Bamboo Spa, which police shut down in May over allegations of prostitution. Umporowicz said the woman who owns the building gave permission to use the space after learning what allegedly occurred at the former business. Detectives posted ads for Euro Spa on backpage.com.




Most of the men arrested claimed they had just come in for a massage. But Umporowicz said the officers were coached specifically to be blatant in offers of sexual services and pricing to men who walked in or made appointments by phone.


Previously, men were often arrested and released, later receiving summonses in the mail. But now, it is stressed that whenever police resources allow, jail bookings are mandatory for men arrested for misdemeanor sexual exploitation.

Agree totally. But let's not forget.

Jenny mentioned seeing a psychiatrist and they usually prescribe mental meds. Plus she mentioned that she knows that she should go back to seeing the psychiatrist.

But guess what.

Jonathan isn't sharing her possible mental disorders.

It would have been nice to know if the Mrs suffered from any mental conditions.

But let me guess. Lol. Soon Jonathan will report of how his wife suffers from xyz and needs her meds while he needs the go fund me to now raise more for the mentally ill wife kidnapped by Corona drivers while vacationing in Mexico.

Lol. Well it was reported that 100s of men were arrested that worked in various different fields.

But they forgot to mention the 1 guy who's wife that has recently been abducted by Corona in Mexico. Lol

And they also forgot to mention that her husband directly or indirectly used her Find Me money for a tug n rub only 24hrs after thanking someone for supporting his missing wifes go fund me page. Lol

So imo. He definitely lucked up since the Washington cops nor press didn't bash him or chose not to bash him with this brothel sting. Jmo

So he told CN that it was bad luck. But so far. He is very lucky that the local cops nor media didn't really expose him.

If in fact she is seeing a psychiatrist and taking meds, she could well be off her meds and delusional. This could explain her disappearance and her risk taking behavior in Mexico. While JR may be trying to protect his wife's medical history and privacy, I think this is a *very* important point that should be exposed. We don't need to know her exact condition, but there should be some mention of whether "confused thinking" may be a possibility. If she is bipolar, this is starting to add up.

Dex and I briefly discussed this on the first thread. It didn't go anywhere, but I've always felt that Jenny's risk-taking/impulsive behavior could perhaps be due to the manic phase of bipolar disorder, which can last several months. Delusional thinking can happen during a manic phase. We don't know why she felt she should go back to her psychiatrist, so I'm just speculating. But there is something so "off" about Jenny, beyond quirky and beyond just getting away from JR. If she is bipolar, whether on or off meds, a trip like this would not allow her to keep to a good sleep schedule, which is very important for people with bipolar disorder. So symptoms could worsen. JMO

Her Asian appearance, then, coupled with her lack of social boundaries would have made her easily stand out and remembered by people no matter where she traveled in Mexico. That is the good thing about trying to find her.

And on the subject of Jenny seeing a psychiatrist, I thought I'd again post where this information came from. It was in Jenny's own words, from her Weibo writings. It is part of her 21-day gratitude challenge where she lists 3 things she is grateful for, then also lists exercise, meditation and a random act of kindness. This one is dated 12/25/2015, under Meditation. I realize for some, the weibo links won't open (I can open it on my desktop, but not on my ipad. Reading her weibo again, I found a place where she actually writes of the disorder, on 12/17/15. Again, this is in her gratitude journaling. But, not of her having the disorder, but a friend. She lists this as #3 of things to be grateful for. It doesn't sound like Jenny believes she has bipolar disorder, then, by what she writes here. (I've taken out the name of the friend):

She does mention this person's name who she talks about in more posts, and calls her a friend. It seems she is very tolerant of this person's behavior, looking at it with a very curious, studying attitude. I imagine it could be possible she does see something of herself in her friend with mental illness struggles, and that's where her interest and tolerance is coming from? She does say she has a cousin with the disorder, but is that a close enough relation to consider a genetic link?
