It looks to me, like only the major highways and a few of the Downtown streets are covered in Streetview. 99% of the streets in that city don’t look to be covered in Streetview at all. The pictures of the billboards do not appear to me to be on a major street. It looks more like he bought billboards on top of one small neighborhood store. Which is probably all he could afford. I doubt that Streeview has images of that store.

Is the area anywhere near the Pemex gas station where she was REALLY last seen getting into the Corona truck? (supposedly, according to JR)

JR, that's where she was last seen. I don't think those billboards will work, he should have hit the streets back in April when he knew she went missing.

Lilibet,
Hope you had your doors locked and took from the streets before it got too dark.

Yes, I was very careful Lisa! And besides, who's going to mess with a gray haired older woman rocking out to Jackson Browne?! :D

Thats what I discovered cruising around, that streetview is sparse. I was hoping that the intersection was a major street and that the Plasma Publicidad store would show up, since it's on a corner. If it's on the corner Dex and I figure it is, it won't. However, that intersection is a fairly main street, so it will be seen, but it seems strange to place it there. I agree that it's probably all he could afford. It doesn't seem that there will be more billboards.

Juchitan is less than an hour by car from the Pemex station. According to the PI, Jenny passed through Juchitan after leaving Oaxaca City, then headed north, where she spent the night at the Pemex. I was surprised the billboard was in downtown Juchitan too. Perhaps they feel that they can reach more people there.

Yes, JR should have gone directly from Cancun to Oaxaca and hired a PI right away. He wasted a lot of time relying on LE and consulates, when people could have told him he needed to conduct his own investigation. They did tell him that after he opened the FB page, but by then it was too late. Hindsight is always 20/20, and I suspect Jenny was well-hidden by the time JR really figured out she was missing.

I believe the Corona truck was about 50 kilometers north of there, if I’m understanding the locations correctly.

So yeah, I agree. The billboard location seems kind of random. The chances of any one having information about her, seeing that billboard is pretty slim I think.

The only thing I can think of is that the driver may have taken her back toward Juchitan and that may be why the billboard is there (still seems strange). He was said to have driven the opposite direction from the route to Cancun because of strikes blocking the road. That would have taken him south on 185 instead of north to 145D going east. Then what? Drivers don't like to go through Chiapas to the east because the road is bad. I do wonder if he wasn't really headed to Cancun and just gave her the story about the road being blocked. I would think it would be pretty easy to find out if the road was blocked that day. If not, then he clearly was up to no good. And the billboard is unlikely to help...but I don't fault him for trying.

Just popping in to see if there is anything new.. so sad that she is still missing.

I have some friends heading to Cancun and I am printing off pictures of her for them to take with them so they can ask locals around the area. ( I am telling them to be very cautious and aware of surroundings while doing so)

Do we know the name of the resort/hotel JR was supposed to meet Jenny at in Cancun ?? I was going to try to send my friends that way first. TIA

How nice of you to do that! :loveyou: I don't think JR ever named the place he stayed. They were actually planning to meet at the airport, for some strange reason.

Well, we don't know that is necessarily true, as JR has 2 stories, that they were supposed to meet at the airport and they were supposed to meet at a hotel.

According to these articles:

"he waited and waited and waited for days at the Cancun hotel where they were supposed to meet".
http://www.goerie.com/article/20160...rmer-erie-man-says-wife-disappeared-in-mexico

"The two agreed to meet up at the Cancun airport on April 15, but Chen never showed up, Reinhard said. "

Is it possible the two of them were planning on couch surfing or bumming it in Cancun together, and that's why they planned to meet at the airport? He apparently doesn't have money, and yet we assume they planned to stay at a nice resort together. It could explain why he hasn't mentioned the hotel. Maybe he stayed at a cheap motel, or a friend's house after she didn't show at the airport, and waited for her to call. Imagine that- he doesn't know her number and she doesn't know where he is... I wonder how many times he checked her Facebook or texted her on WeChat (I haven't used WeChat in a long time, but I'm pretty sure you need a phone number, right?) These don't seem like adults to me.

He said in the article above that he waited for her at a hotel.

Thanks for reminding me of the contradiction. I think I assumed the earlier KOMO story was more accurate because it was so specific about the airport...which is a weird place to meet someone who was hitchhiking or taking a bus. Unless of course, Jenny was going to get there earlier and meet his plane. But we really don't know anything I guess.

I think their stay in Cancun was described as a five day vacation together, so I expect it was at least at a hotel. I assumed she knew the name of it, which is why he said he remained there, but who knows? I've never understood why he didn't have her phone number. Basic nowadays. I call my dh if I lose him in a big store! :D

Thanks, Lilibet & JerseyGirl. I forgot he was quoted saying that he waited for her at the hotel. Do you remember if he said he stayed for the remainder of his reservation? Because 5 days is a good amount of time to do a little digging, contacting friends who she's stayed with, pinging them on Facebook, (I know we've already discussed his calling hospitals and the police....), etc....

<modsnip> I can't imagine that he waited in a hotel for 5 days, and didn't reach out to every person on her FB page to ask if they've seen her or ask them for help, or even to let them know she's missing. He had her password, maybe he PMed them, but still I don't see her new friends spreading the word, so I don't think he did. Just guessing of course...

Sorry if I got any facts wrong! The details are starting to fade from my memory since losing access to both FB pages. :gaah:

I think JR stayed the whole five days. He talked about staying in his room a lot IIRC. Perhaps he hoped she'd show up and he started to worry toward the end of his time there and reported it. But I agree he could have been checking with her FB friends....unless he thought she'd left him and was embarrassed.

The HelpFindJenny Facebook page is now public (JR is admin as I'm a member & receive notifications. This happened 1 hour ago.

Also, he changed the group type from "Project" to "Support"

Interesting, he didn’t have it set to “Closed”, but rather to “Secret”. As one of his supporters asked, "Secret? How is that helpful?”. This guy is a flake.

Anyway the news is the same. He is still waiting for police to talk to the Corona driver. The same thing he has been waiting for, for the last two months.

Husband of missing woman optimistic — Jenny Chen of Seattle was last seen in April in Oaxaca
article dated JUNE 9, 2016

“I firmly believe we’ll have some answers in the next 30 to 60 days.” Jonathan Reinhard of Wallingford said he is “hanging in there.”

Interesting, I never knew there was a "secret" level on Facebook groups:

It looks as if JR set it to secret and changed it to closed a few minutes later. He said he was trying out privacy settings. A secret setting is useful if you are doing something with a group that needs to remain completely confidential and invisible. No one even knows the group exists. I was part of one once that was doing some very specific sleuthing for the father of a missing teen. We would report our findings to the group of about a dozen people. That way we could all see what was being done. Her terrific dad and stepmother were also members, so they could ask us to follow leads. It was quite a ride!! She eventually came home on her own, thankfully.

I think JR saw within five minutes that secret was not what he wanted. I'm glad he finally decided closed wasn't a good idea either.
