Lopez said Zarate took a two-day trip to Ciudad Camargo to see an ear doctor. She said his appointment was last Monday. Zarate had planned to stay the night before at a hotel.

The wife said she called the hotel in Camargo and spoke with management. Lopez said the hotel’s response left the family in shock.
“The employee in charge of the hotel said they had taken various people, mainly the ones that were by themselves,” she said. “Everyone single were taken, about eight of them, to include my husband.”

Lopez said several family members found his truck near an abandoned home. She said it looked like it was ransacked.
