His parents last texted with their son at 3:51 p.m. Sunday. “We have been able to determine that he went missing Sunday afternoon while on a walk (he left about 4 p.m.) in the area around Urique,” his father posted. “The hotel owner said he never returned from his walk. Someone had seen him walking near a ranch on Sunday afternoon."

Teacher, a Davidson grad, went on a walk in Mexico. He hasn’t been heard from since.

According to his family, he was supposed to meet his brother in Mexico City on Tuesday but didn't show up. A family friend said Thursday morning that police and residents are searching the area around Urique.

His parents are also traveling in Mexico. They said that they're working with authorities and the US Embassy.

My husband is a young engineer, one of his company's lead engineers, and they have multiple plants around the world including Mexico. They will NOT send him there, sending a less experienced person who is Latino and fluent as they deem my blond haired blue eyed husband too much of a kidnapping risk. I do hope this young man is found, but Mexico is NOT a safe place for anyone.

Chihuahua is not a good place to visit at the moment. Being honest, most of Mexico isn't. I hope he is found safe.

ETA: According to the article in Spanish, he could have gone missing on Friday 26.

El primer reporte por la ausencia de Patrick fue hecho por el personal del hotel Paraíso Escondido el martes, quienes se percataron de que el ciudadano americano no regresó en todo el fin de semana por sus pertenencias...

He didn't return during the weekend. They thought he was visiting some towns nearby.

The search continues for Davidson man Patrick Braxton-Andrew, who went missing last weekend after a hike in north-central Mexico. Authorities In Mexico Search For Missing Davidson Man

Why would this young man take a walk or hike beginning at 4p.m.?
I can understand a short walk but anything longer than that would have him hiking in the dark. A good thing the desk man was so attentive. He knew when he left, what he was going to be doing, and knew he hadn't arrived back at the hotel.

More than a hundred police have fanned out in the northern Mexico state of Chihuahua to search for a missing American hiker.

The picturesque network of canyons is also plagued by violent conflicts over illegal logging, which locals accuse of being fronts for money laundering by Mexican drug cartels.

Violent conflicts, the drug cartels, so many reasons to not hike there alone. Or at all. :(

I hope and pray this young man is located safe and sound. His family must be beside themselves with worry.

It seems Patrick had paid for the night in the hotel which he failed to return to. If yes, presumably he intended a relatively short walk. The first post in this thread cites a report of someone having seen Patrick walking near a ranch Sunday afternoon. That lead might narrow down possible direction(s) of travel, which in turn might show possible areas of danger (terrain as well as human danger) that Patrick may have been heading towards.

Has it rained in the area since Patrick´s dissapearance? If not, are there any footprints to be found in the road dust that might be Patrick´s? Is there any possibility of using dogs to pick up a scent in the area where Patrick was reportedly seen? Any fresh tire tracks in this area?
