No verdict yet, but jurors in the Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer kidnap trial have sent a question to the judge. “Can we get a legal description of a “weapon.”

also: judge gives the definition, says he hopes it helps. Encourages them to knock off for the day and watch the NCAA playoffs and start fresh tomorrow.

Jury deliberations underway in Michigan Gov. Whitmer plot

Jonker last week told jurors that the men could be convicted of conspiracy, even if a kidnapping did not occur in fall 2020.

A key factor, if the jury finds it, would be a “mutual understanding either spoken or unspoken” between two or more people in the group, the judge said.

VERDICT WATCH - MI - 14 men charged in plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Oct 2020 *2 guilty*
4/4/22 Monday, Trial Day 15/Deliberations Day 1: Jury started deliberations. After 7 hours of deliberations, the jury emerged from the deliberation room with a question: What's a weapon? The jury appears to be hung up on the weapons of mass destruction charge — which three defendants are facing — and possession of an unregistered destructive device, which two defendants are facing. U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker explained to the jury at about 3pm that a weapon is anything that can be used to "destroy, injure or kill someone or something, as opposed to something you would use for fun." The judge told the jury this could apply very broadly, from a fist to a chair, to a weapon of mass destruction, which the government alleges in this case. The jury was dismissed at 4:30pm Monday with no verdict reached. Deliberations resume Tuesday, 4/5/22 at 8:30am.

*Ty Gerard Garbin (24) - plead guilty (1/27/21) to kidnapping conspiracy & was sentenced (8/25/21) to 6 years & 3 months in Federal prison. Garbin will testify at the trial of the other defendants. Lengthy testimony & repeated debriefings have been critical in building a case to counter defense arguments that revolve around free speech issues as well as accusations of entrapment by federal undercover informants, Nils R. Kessler, the lead U.S. attorney on the case.
Kaleb James Franks (26) – Plead guilty (2/7/22) to kidnapping conspiracy. Will testify at trial & will be sentencing afterwards.
(State: for Antrim County on 4/14/21 & Jackson County on 8/8/22 & trial starts 9/12/22).

Jury in Michigan Gov. Whitmer plot deliberating for 2nd day | Ap-top-news | wfmz.com

A judge has rejected a request for trial transcripts as jurors return for a second day of deliberations in the case of four men accused of conspiring to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A judge rejected a request for trial transcripts Tuesday as jurors returned for a second day of deliberations in the case of four men accused of conspiring to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker said there is a practical reason: Transcripts of testimony aren't available yet. But even if they were, he added, the jury shouldn't have them.

“You have to do your best as a group to recall, remember,” Jonker said...

JMO, but I have a feeling that this trial will end with a hung jury.

Throw away the key!!!! Madmen.

Can't figure out why the deliberations should take this long: it makes me nervous ---For me, the case against these "madmen' has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt---actually proven beyond any doubt- but you know how juries are----I still remember Durst was acquitted by a jury after murdering and decapitating a man. So there's that.

The longer this jury is out the more I fear acquittal or a hung jury. JMO

Right there with you all.

I thought this was a pretty straightforward case.

Why does the thread header read "guilty." Did I miss something here?

There were six charged in this case; two pled guilty & testified for the prosecution.

There are also other guys affiliated with this case who are being tried at state level.
