Two Pontiac boys were found by police to be severely malnourished as they ate sporadic meals of rice and were confined to their bedrooms with the windows screwed shut and the glass painted so the boys could not see outside, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The accusations came as Arturo and Dulce Bazan, as well as Arturo's 24-year-old son Carlos Bazan-Hernandez, were charged with two counts of first-degree child abuse and two counts of torture, according to Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald's office. The 9- and 11-year-old boys are Arturo's sons...

2 boys singled out and starved, other children in the home appeared well-fed. Per the article, they are both expected to recover, but IMO this damage will stay with them forever. :(

I'll never understand it, SMH.
my guess, the 9 and 11 year old children who were abused will end up being step children or someone's children they were fostering, whether officially or off the books and not the siblings of the non abused children. They will have been scapegoated by the family :( The 1 and 4 year old will end up being the biological issue of both Bazan-Perez and Castillo JMO

I hate how frequently we are seeing these starvation cases lately. But then I have to wonder, is it because it is happening more often? Or is it because these cases are being caught earlier before children are dead?

I don't know how, but I feel like whenever students are pulled from public schools to be homeschooled, CFS visit(s) should happen not long after.

yes, the pattern is painfully clear. Children removed from mandated reporters and then if they are lucky removed from their homes before it all ends fatally.

I am not at all against homeschooling. I know several mothers who properly home schooled their children. I agree people need to have the right to be participants in their own children's educations. I just feel strongly there has to be some checks and balances in place.

agree, but the majority of times in cases I have followed they were fosters, adoptees, or children from previous relationships and that seems to be a big factor in how the scapegoat is selected.

Sometimes but not always, have known of cases IRL where that was not a factor and 1 child scapegoated and abused for other reasons. The family pattern can even continue when parents die, formerly supportive sibs become abusive, very sick stuff. Often it is a multi-generational pattern, one of the parents was a scapegoat or the grew up with a sibling in that role.
