Officials in Troy confirmed a child died after an explosion at a medical center Friday morning.

Fire and police officials said the boy died after a hyperbaric chamber blew up at a center on Kirts Boulevard.

A 5-year-old boy was killed after a hyperbaric chamber blew up inside the building. His mom, who was next to the chamber at the time, also suffered injuries to her arms.

The deceased was a resident of Royal Oak.

Upon arrival, fire officials dealt with a fire inside the chamber. It was contained to the room. Medical staff also at the building were not injured in the explosion.

Four people have been arrested, including the founder and CEO of a Troy medical facility, after an explosion inside a hyperbaric oxygen chamber at the Troy site killed a 5-year-old boy.

Troy police arrested four people Monday morning in a case involving an explosion and fire in the pressurized chamber Jan. 31 at the Oxford Center in Troy, said Lt. Ben Hancock...

A 5-year-old with a sleep apnea diagnosis?
and apparently an ADHD diagnosis. I was unaware of the fact that some studies note an improvement in children diagnosed with ADHD with the use of such a chamber. those diagnosis seem early since he was only 4 but apparently the age has shifted over the years for ADHD. Used to be that diagnosis wouldn't be made until at least age 6 but in more recent years the minimum age for that diagnosis is around 4.

The CEO and safety director of a Troy medical facility where a hyperbaric oxygen chamber exploded in late January, killing a 5-year-old boy inside, are among the four people who will be arraigned Tuesday in a Troy district court in connection with the explosion.

Records for Troy's 52-4 District Court show Tamela Peterson, founder and CEO of the Oxford Center, 58, and the company's safety director Jeff Mosteller, 64, were both charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. The charges were filed on Friday. An arraignment is planned for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The explosion occurred at the Oxford Center on Kirts Boulevard in Troy on Jan. 31. Police said the four were arrested in connection with the Monday morning...

According to this article, hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been approved for use in treating 14 different conditions, and neither sleep apnea or ADHD are among those. A quick Google search is also telling me that this is FAR from the first death caused by a hyperbaric chamber explosion. Unfortunately this seems like a new psuedoscientific trend targeting vulnerable parents who probably aren't aware of the risks.

@Goecke Thx for your post, suggesting googling re these deaths.

Sure enough, they have happened in the US & other countries.
Some fatalities for humans and animals.

At link scroll down to "Incidents."

Other interesting info about approved uses too. imo

This is a new one on me. I have heard of hyperbaric chambers, but I have not given it much thought.
Apparently there are situations where this type therapy does help, but I just have to give a big sigh when this little guy was given this type therapy and a disaster occurred.
My heart hurts for his parents and for others who knew and loved him.
What a sad, sad situation. SMH.
Fly high, sweet boy.

It's yet another piece of junk designed to separate parents from a vast amount of money on the promise of giving them a 'normal' child.

It's just as much crap as chelation, vaccine avoidance, bleach injections, exorcism, restraint, extreme diets, overdoses of vitamins, aversive punishment including electric shocks, and every other cruel and useless thing that's been marketed to families for the last century.

This garbage kills kids. It's unregulated and there's absolutely nothing that suggests that any of it has any effect at all on neurotype, genetics, or quality of life for the child.

What the heck happened here? I presume a flame/spark of some type but how?

A friend of ours is currently building a hyperbaric centre and offered me free treatments. I really can't do that after reading this.

Just say no to extremely flammable and explosive free treatments.

Cylinders of pure oxygen are disasters waiting to happen.

I agree, kids need to be more active physically in order to be mentally healthy. imo

I don't understand how you got to that from what I was saying. I was talking about unregulated and often dangerous things that get marketed to parents of neurodivergent and disabled kids, not about physical activity of children.
