Is there a MSM link with information about the possibility that April was carrying a backpack? I don't recall reading/hearing about it from a reliable media source. Thanks.

I suppose this guy is still locked up or we would have heard about him.
Interesting, I hadn't heard of this. Not sure of any dates and if he was "out" when April was murdered. Thanks for sharing!

Was just coming to post an update by Jameson Cook, from The Voice.. Here's the link to a different Voice article:

BBM:
Two men formally charged with drug offenses in St. Clair County are not part of the investigation into the slaying of April Millsap, according to a police official.

Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said Friday the two men charged Friday after a Wednesday home raid, James Bernard Vancallis, 66, and his son, James Donald Vancallis, 32, are not suspects nor persons of interest in April’s July 24 death.

This doesn't mean they've been cleared though, right? I don't know if it's just a case of LE never wanting to call someone a POI or suspect, or if they're downright cleared in April's case. Hmmmm....

Oh, sorry to double post, but I just read the rest of the article I linked above from The Voice (I guess I should've read the whole thing before commenting). I found this interesting to note:

Heidi Laskowski, who lives along the lake, said police told her an item that may have been left or dropped by the killer was found on her and her neighbor’s property. She wouldn’t’ say what the item was, although WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) reported Friday that April’s cellphone was found near the shore, according to neighbors, leading police to believe the killer ran through their yards after the slaying and perhaps threw something into the water.

“They said there were a few articles possibly missing,” Laskowski said. “They’re dotting their I’s and crossing their T’s.”

I need to go back and find tlcya's map and see where the lake is...

It would be helpful and appreciated if you would provide a direct link to the articles that you are quoting so that others can access it easily.

I just heard from a friend that there is more to this case then the police and media are saying. <modsnip> I don't know facts. Just what a friend that knows people on the city board in Armada.

According to an article I read, a man who lives near the crime scene has two teenage boys, they've all built trails back in the woods near where April's body was found.

I thought it was strange indeed when the he told the reporter he's not worried about his boys going back there. Apparently they've been going back there alone this past week.

The younger VanCallis began to cry during the arraignment and his father pleaded to be allowed to go home on account of his pets.
"I love my dogs. I just wanna go home to my dogs. I didn't do nothing," VanCallis Sr said according to WXYZ.
VanCallis Jr. has a medical marijuana license and is allowed to have 36 plants in his home, but during the search of Goodell, Michigan house, investigators found 52 plants inside, according to WXYZ.

I'm not sure about the forum rules. Can we post a theory? My theory would be: could this be a case where April was killed to keep from testifying if she was a possible witness? Could she have been involved in reporting this man to authorities? Could this be a revenge killing? This man was just arranged and the case against him has not started yet.

ARMADA, MI -- April Millsap, a 14-year-old from Armada, will never slow dance with her father on her wedding day.

A song popular for that occasion was sung by the choir at her funeral Friday.

"At the end, it almost caught us all off guard because it was very traditional, when they played 'Butterfly Kisses,' there wasn't a dry eye in the house," said Armada Schools Superintendent Michael Musary. "It's very difficult for not only the family, the community ... We're depressed, we're down today, but the spirit of this community is strong, so we're going to bounce back."
