BBM... Police RECENTLY asked family members about the mystery number?! Why did it take so long for them to ask the family about that phone number?? How can they (LE) not know who the number is registered to?? I'm confused.

A throwaway cell phone could have been used. Paid for with cash and funded by cash to buy minutes.

Thanks, Who - I never remember there are "throwaway" phones, that seems to be the most plausible explanation, or they would know who the number belonged to.

Looks like they are looking for something small (that cell phone that April called?) Wouldn't a cell phone register on a metal detector (which it doesn't look like they are using)? So I guess what they are looking for is not metal.

While I was on my way to the gym this morning, there was a report about the April Millsap case on WWJ Radio. It seems that there have been some conflicts regarding the progress of the investigation and who is in charge. Michigan State Police appears to have taken the lead and Armada PD isn't being included in some aspects of the investigation even though they have resources available. There's no update on the WWJ website (which I dislike due to all the advertising), but I wonder if the information about the mysterious phone call wasn't looked into promptly by whoever should have been focused on this aspect of the case. I hope that today's searches offer some new evidence or leads in solving the case.

Reports: Police conducting search in April Millsap case

The Detroit News

Authorities reportedly are executing a search Monday in the case of April Millsap, the 14-year-old Armada girl whose body was found last month near the Macomb Orchard Trail.

According to WDIV-TV (Channel 4) and WXYZ-TV (Channel 7), the search is taking place in Goodells in St. Clair County. Search teams could be seen walking along farmland in the area.

Michigan State Police, the FBI and St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department didn’t immediately return calls...

Ooooh, good thinking! I was wondering what would have tipped them off to search this area - that may be it!

The cell battery would have been dead by now plus I would think they would have looked into this mystery number/cell phone much earlier than almost 4 weeks into the investigation. This seems like a very specific location, my guess this was based on a tip by someone or by the suspect himself. Maybe the suspect "confessed" and they are verifying his story before charging. How far is the search location from the home that was searched early in the investigation? Besides the phone, wasn't April carrying a back pack? Was that recovered at the scene or could they be looking for a backpack or other personal items she may have been carrying?

Could the killer have committed suicide or are there other reported missing persons that could be victims buried in the area? Do they have the killer in custody and he confessed to additional killings, a serial killer?

Coroners van and ambulance, too, unless commenter uses terms interchangeably. Although, in these parts (metro-Detroit), ME vehicles tend to be black; ambulances are typically white or red.

Search Warrant Executed In April Millsap Murder Case

WALES TOWNSHIP (WWJ) – Authorities are searching a home in Wales Township — in St. Clair County — as part of the investigation into the murder of Armada teen April Millsap.

Talking to WWJ Newsradio 950 early Monday afternoon, Michigan State Police Lieutenant Mike Shaw said a search warrant is being executed in connection with the investigation.

Reports said the area around the home, in the 8700 block of Marquette in Goodells — an unincorporated community in the norther part of Wales Township — was secured with crime scene tape as the FBI searched the house and property.

Shaw said no additional information is being released at this time...

Just read the comments section of the ClickonDetroit article that the authorities are back at the house that was searched several weeks ago. Another poster mentioned that the younger suspect (the son?) worked at the grain elevator that borders the trail.
