I don’t think any of the initial reports stated anything about gender, relationship or infant/adult. Just two people.
Later reports did. We know they were father and son but we don’t know their ages though.

Keweenaw County Medical Examiner Dr. Michael McAllister said the victims are a father and son, though it’s not clear who died first.

Gotcha. I misunderstood your point. It’s hard to remember who posts what. 😊

Sad situation. I can't imagine being out in the wilderness and hearing the events unfold.

The two 911 calls were made separately, but both reported the same thing: Two bodies were at a remote campsite in Michigan’s Isle Royale National Park. Around 4 p.m. on June 8, two National Park Service (NPS) rangers responded to the calls, hiking 11 miles overnight to the remote location. When they found the scene, an investigation was opened, the FBI got involved, and despite identifying the bodies, no one yet knows their names.

Now, Keweenaw County Medical Examiner, Dr. Michael McAllister, has revealed to Michigan news outlet MLive that murder-suicide is the suspected cause of death. According to McAllister, the two victims appear to have been father and son, although it’s still unclear who died first.

Aircraft had to be used to extract them due to the remoteness of the location at South Lake Desor Campground. Both the NPS Investigative Services Branch (NPS-ISB) and the FBI are investigating the case.

Authorities have identified the two hikers found dead at Isle Royale National Park on June 9, 2025, as 30-year-old Bradley Baird and his 60-year-old father, John Baird, both from Salem Township, Michigan, west of Detroit. This information comes from death certificates obtained by My UP Now from the Keweenaw County Clerk, as reported on July 1, 2025.

Interesting that I found the same name as the father, in a gov doc about that very site (Isle Royale). This makes me wonder if the deceased JB in this case is related to that JB AND the family has some sort of history connection with that isle.

The Citizens Committee dispatched a request that the Island be designated a state game and timber reserve to John Baird, Director of the Michigan Conservation Department. Baird forwarded their petition to Albert Stoll, outdoor editor of the Detroit News. Stoll visited Isle Royale in September1921, accompanied by David Jones, Michigan Conservation Department. On that visit, they talked about the Island’s potential as a state park.

Contacted for further information about the father and son, a relative told the Minnesota Star Tribune that “the family will need to discuss” before granting any interviews.
...

Keweenaw County prosecutor Chuck Miller said the medical examiner has indicated it could be weeks or months before other critical information like toxicology and autopsy results arrive, and that Park Service investigators said they don’t plan to release any new information in the near future.

This sounds like a tragic event where mental illness is the core factor. Just my opinion. John Baird seems to be a common name (at least in Michigan).

Basically, John Baird (father) was an insurance executive, som (Bradley Baird) was a ‘self-employed writer’.

Looking at the island on Google maps, it is a very large and almost undeveloped island, maybe 20-30 miles long. There is a ranger station and a few campgrounds, but most of the island is undeveloped and likely only accessible by foot.
My son hiked across the island solo several years ago. At the time there was no cell service. He said he hiked for four days without seeing another human.

Honestly I am surprised there have not been more fatalities there. Hikers need to carry their own emergency medical supplies. It is rugged and isolated.

Truepeoplesearch suggests father and son lived at the same address in Pontiac, MI, though that could be complicated by parent(s) name(s) on the deed etc.

I wonder if this will follow a similar narrative as many murders/suicides of late: dependent adult son with a history of mental illness murders their parent.

The 911 call was released a while back but I didn't see it until now...

A hiker just after midnight on June 7, 2025, reported alarming behavior at a remote campground in Isle Royale National Park, Michigan. The caller described a man as “completely unhinged,” shouting threats including, “I’m going to kill myself, I’m going to murder us all.”

The next afternoon, two bodies were discovered near the same location. Authorities identified the deceased as 30-year-old Bradley Kenneth Baird and his 60-year-old father, John David Baird. As of July 31, the cause of death remains under investigation. Details were obtained through a Michigan State Police dispatch released via a Freedom of Information Act request.

The author Bradley K. Baird has written one book, titled The Adventures of Ham: The Pig Who Flew. (from goodreads.com) It's a children's illustrated book about a pig named Ham (!) who wants to be a superhero. Self-published. He apparently had no wife or kids, and I tried to find any of his previous jobs, but never found any info on that at all. He was 30 (from people.com).
