Maybe lynnb is on to something. This is not meant to insinuate anything, since I don't know her mother's financial situation, but generally speaking, it's very hard to get on state assistance in MI, if you are trying to collect for children, and refuse to name their father. And he has been a close friend of the family for 15 years. Maybe someone asked him to help out and he did, not realizing all the money that he would have to pay for signing that piece of paper. And, if he signed what they call an affadavit of parentage when she was born, that means that he legally waived his right to ask the state of MI to pay for a paternity test if he denies he is her father. Those are expensive too.
I'm just thinking out loud. I don't even know if he was paying child support, or if he was ordered to, or if her mother is on assistance, or if he is legitimately her father, and somebody has a date wrong.
