GUILTY MI - Brenna Machus, 20, Romulus, 16 July 2013

So no one came into the store after 7:30pm at all?

Maybe not? But it could be hard to tell for sure. Channel 7 reported that due to storms electricity was on and off and LE is waiting on video to be downloaded from somewhere. Maybe they will be able to tell from that of anyone else entered after 7pm ?

If they did exit through the rear of the store perhaps surrounding businesses video surveillance or parking lot?

If the power went off during the storm, that may be why no one went into the store and found the dead employee. I'm wondering what kind of disarray there was in the store. The kind that happens when someone is chasing someone else and the person is trying to get away--or the kind from someone stealing things. If the robber/killer had the girl at gun point, how much could he carry out of the store while still controlling her? And with a heat index of 100 degrees here, he must have been rather hot in that outfit he was wearing even in a storm. How far is the Family Dollar store from the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village? Dearborn is the largest middle eastern community in the world outside of the middle east. Middle eastern people own a lot of businesses in that area and a lot of liquer stores. We have shopped there many times and I never felt unsafe there. We don't go there after dark though. I hope the girl is found alive and brought back safe. A lot of crimes don't get solved in the Detroit area.

I wonder if this was a robbery at all. Why take the one clerk and kill the other? I fear he was killed in order to take her. But then why not wait until she was leaving? A very strange sort of crime so far, IMO.

Check out the one male follower--seems not the type to be let down easy, but I can't tell if he's talking about her or another girl.

Also a screen grab of her missing poster from her brother's twitter--sorry, I don't know how to link from twitter.

Just watched a wxyz news video on YouTube that stated Brenna was going to school to be a crime scene investigator--maybe she left detectives a gift or two to help them find her?

"They don't think robbery was a motive. There was some type of an altercation out behind her store. She went out back to find out what was going on, and they believe that's when she was abducted. After the abduction, they went in, they killed the cashier," said Jamie Machus, her father.

"One guy in particular kept making threatening Facebook messages to her. This kid used to come in and harass her at the store, and she'd have to ask him to leave or whatever because he was stoned."

I almost don't want to go here, because I don't know much about the case, but wasn't there talk of Jessica Herrenga going out behind her store as well? How far apart are these two?

  • #88
Meh-should've checked the maps before I posted--Jessica's abduction took place over three hours away.

Interesting. Channel 4 reported that Brenna was a medical student. Guess that's what happens when media is anxious to get the story out without the facts.

Search Steps Up For Missing Dearborn Woman, Who May Have Been Kidnapped During Robbery

July 17, 2013 6:39 AM

DETROIT (WWJ) The search continues in Dearborn for a missing woman — a Family Dollar employee — who may have been kidnapped after a fellow employee was shot to death Monday night during a robbery.

The brother of 20-yr-old Brenna Macchus is angry.

“I think they might be using that as a plea bargain, I don’t know, all it is is speculation,” Ryan Macchus said. “We’ve talked to a lot of my sister’s friends, we’ve gotten leads, we’ve tried to contact police about it, it just seems like it’s getting nowhere." ...

My daughter was held up at gunpoint and robbed at a Dollar store when she worked there. There were 2 perps. They came in initially the first time and scoped out the place. The older guy asked my daughter to help him pick out an anniversary card for his wife. She took him back to the card section and helped him. He checked out and left. Then, they called and talked to her about some other random thing. Finally near closing time, the second younger guy came in and hid in the store (presumably where the older guy had told him to after coming in to get the card).

They closed the store. The younger guy came out of hiding with the gun and his face covered with a bandanna. He made my daughter pour bleach on the recording devices in the office. After that he got on the phone with the older guy who was waiting outside in the getaway car. After he got whatever they wanted, he took my daughter and her manager to the back storage room where they keep the big carts for stocking. He threw them in there and pushed a bunch of carts on top of them and left. Thank GOD the were not killed.

The surveillance equipment was salvaged and they managed to get some surveillance video off of it. They also got surveillance video from the store (Exxon) across the street. These guys had been robbing Dollar stores all over the area and nearby towns. They were eventually caught about 5 or 6 months later.

It looks to me like Brenna was purposefully targeted and perhaps the person who did it was jealous of her coworker. It seems to me if this were a garden-variety robbery, they wouldn't kill either of them or abduct anyone.

Oh my gosh Surfie how scary! Thank goodness she wasn't harmed.

If Brenna was abducted during the robbery/homicide that wasn't discovered until yesterday morning, the perp had nearly a 12-hour jump start to leave the immediate area. I hope that there is surveillance video of the parking lot and/or alley behind the shopping plaza so a vehicle can be identified. Hopefully, a license plate can help locate the vehicle and the perp before harm comes to Brenna.

So, do we know for sure that money was taken?

Sometimes Robbery and Homicide division will handle a case even if a robbery isn't involved (as in the case of Elisa Lam, if I remember correctly).

(Obv here, a homicide did take place>
