GUILTY MI - Brenna Machus, 20, Romulus, 16 July 2013

So, do we know for sure that money was taken?

Sometimes Robbery and Homicide division will handle a case even if a robbery isn't involved (as in the case of Elisa Lam, if I remember correctly).

No actual case information has been reported by LE. I hope that family members and/or friends of Brenna find their way to WS to provide some details.

I wonder if Brenna (or Joseph Orlando) normally worked that shift alone? What was her / his schedules?

Did the perp know Jospeh would be working and plan to kill him? (He brought a gun in--was this premeditated murder, or robbery/abduction gone bad?)

What type of gun was used?

Was the motive murder, robbery or purely the abduction of this lady (or a combination)?

Did he plan to abduct this woman, or did he take her because he thought he might need a hostage?

Of course the obvious question is if this guy could be the same man who abducted Jessica Heeringa?

The store was in "disarray" so there was obviously a struggle (just trying to wrap my head around this).

"He said, with the investigation in its early stages, it’s still unclear if a robbery was involved or if there was some other motive behind Orlando’s killing."

I'd bet my last dollar that with the store left open, someone happened upon what they considered their own good fortune and helped themselves. If money is missing and the store is in disarray, detectives can probably get a feel if its been looted--so they don't know if money was taken during the original crime or after.

It's been reported that when the employee's unlocked the door they found the store in disarray.

So apparently the store was locked up.

When employees at the Family Dollar store in Dearborn, Mich. unlocked the doors Tuesday morning, they realized immediately that something was horribly wrong.

Good questions, but I don't think that this and the JH case are related. Norton Shores is @3 hours away from Dearborn. Dearborn Police have said that the man seen on surveillance video at Family Dollar Store is a black male. Jessica was reportedly taken by a white male w/light wavy hair. :moo:

36 hours :(

It appears the address of Family Dollar in Dearborn is 22631 Newman Avenue (so the article listing the street as Michigan Ave is wrong?)

Here's the store (notice comment):
https://plus.google.com/102310394068864286976/about?gl=us&hl=en

"Dearborn police said the victim was shot inside the store off Michigan Avenue sometime Monday night."

Michigan Avenue and Newman run parallel to one another. Newman appears to be a side street that is accessed from Michigan Avenue, therefore off Michigan Avenue. Michigan Avenue is multiple lanes wide with plenty of traffic. Many folks probably aren't familiar with Newman, but practically everyone in these parts knows Michigan Avenue.

From Family Dollar Store website:

Family Dollar #8828
22631 Newman Street
Dearborn, MI 48124
Phone: 313-274-0723

Not necessarily deal breakers if the sketch in Jessica's case isn't really a "10 out of 10" and the eye witness reports in her case are possibly invalid.

Also, 3 hours is a workable distance from a profiling perspective, IMO.

I'm not saying they are related. But I'm not saying they necessarily are unrelated either (A brazen abduction from a store of a young female employee in the same state during the pm hours less than 3 months later?).

The Dearborn case is considered a robbery/homicide with a weapon. There was apparently nothing taken from the Exxon station when Jessica was abducted (no robbery), and, so far, it doesn't appear that she was taken at gunpoint or murdered. :moo:

The reports I heard last night from local stations are reporting the doors are "unlocked" in the morning when they arrived.

Watch this video report. I believe Huffington may have just chosen improper wording for their article. It would seem that the local media would be more creditable with the information they report.

The following video also addresses the video camera questions.

There are 5 total videos on the page to watch. One is an interview with her father who states she was going to school for "Crime Scene Investigation" (Video #2 I think). Worth watching all 5 videos as they address multiple questions in this thread.

I wonder if they're combing along the riverbanks that crosses Outer Dr: (I would also check Ford Field)

This is debatable IMO...

Back to Brenna, I'm going to look into other robberies / abductions in the immediate Dearborn area, see what comes up.

Ford Field: Do you mean the football arena (it's in downtown Detroit) or something that you are seeing on your map searches? Something related to Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn?

There's a Ford Field Park in Dearborn:

“Her car was still parked there” in the lot outside the store when police arrived

The robber targeted a safe and cash drawer in the store

Mark Thomas, manger at the neighboring Aco Hardware store, said an employee at his store saw Machus on Monday evening. If a bullet did go off, employees might have thought “it was thunder,”

There were 2 female customers in the Family Dollar Store between approximately 7:25pm and 7:35pm prior to the incident taking place. Dearborn Police would like to speak to these customers and are urging them to contact the Dearborn Police Department as soon as possible at 313-943-2241.

I don't want to speculate on ethnicity, but the feet seem small, and the athletic shoes look like those that might be worn by a woman. :moo:

That is exactly my thought
