Video at link, Fox 2.

<modsnip - video no longer working on original link. Adding a new one below>

Watch: Family worried for safety of missing transgender woman | The West Australian

According to the video, Brooklyn's aunt says that police picked up Brooklyn early morning on Thursday, to take her to a shelter, but the shelter says that they never saw her. Her phone goes straight to voicemail. Hospitals and shelters were checked with negative results.

I wonder how Brooklyn's aunt knows that Brooklyn was picked up by police? Was it Brooklyn who called and told her that, or is there a record with Detroit PD? If so, what did the police say, where was Brooklyn dropped off?

According to the video interview at the link above, early Thurs morning DPD picked up Brooklyn to take her to a shelter to receive care for some mental health issues she was experiencing. She willingly went with LE. That was the last time anyone has seen her. Oasis Shelter workers told family that Brooklyn never showed up. She regularly sees counselors for bipolar and PTS disorders. She also receives services at the Ruth Ellis Center but she's missed 2 appointments in the past week. Her counselor says brooklyn usually reaches out for help when she needs it, so this is abnormal behavior for her. They're also concerned she may have been a victim of a crime against a trans woman of color.

It'll be interesting to see DPD's report on what happened while traveling w/Brooklyn to the shelter. Thanks for starting her thread, @GuyfromCanada.

Why isn't there any MSM articles about her?

Indeed, thanks Guy for the thread.
I don't like this -- did she just disappear? What happened to her? If she needs counseling or help from the Center and was to go to the Center, something must be wrong -- she missed arriving at both places. And being a transgender and a woman of color, that may make it even more problematic if not dangerous. Grrrrr. Hoping she's safe and okay, but it's quite worrisome.

Still no MSM news articles. I am so angry. Is she not worthy because she's transgender or because she's a POC? As her sister said, she's someone's daughter. She's someone's aunty. She's someone's sister. And they want her home.

Pushing it up for Ellise.

Between the police and the shelter. I had to hold my breath a second thinking "No we can not go back. No". Back in the day the cops would have taken Ellise for a ride just for being Trans. Honestly I don't believe this happened to her. I pray it didn't.

Wondering what the policy or procedure is when transporting someone to a shelter? Do you sign off? Why a shelter and not a mental health facility?

So many questions. Hopefully the community and her counselor who was on the video could set up a rally or even a gathering to be a voice for Ellise.

Her poor family.

My confusion is that LE said they took her to the facility (mental health facility) but the facility said she was never there. SOMEONE is lying. Question is: which one? I mean, LE never said they arrived and she ran. They said they took her there. Did she go in? Did they just drop her off at the door and leave? Something is seriously missing.

Oasis in Highland Park is a homeless shelter. It's not a mental health facility. Her Aunt in the video said she begged her to get help and Ellise said she would go to a shelter.

Not sure how it's done in Detroit. JMO I'd have probably got Ellise 302'd, but that's another entire issue.

There has to be a police report. The cops aren't able to be a taxi service. However what is the protocol in this case?

Praying Ellise is safe somewhere. Not calling her counselor and missing appointments don't feel right though.

Why take her to a homeless shelter if she was having a mental episode? And it still doesn't explain why the shelter said they never saw her...

You'd have to ask her aunt. In the video Ellise's aunt said she agreed to go to a shelter. Not a psychiatric facility.

It sounds like the police tried to work with the family. JMO. People with PTSD especially don't want to hear "You're going to hospital". Heck nobody off their meds does.

The shelter part? Thankfully there for the Grace of God I never had to go to. Not sure how it works.

Sorry for double post.

This is bothering me. Ellise's aunt said it was "early morning ". The Oasis site isn't the best. However I wonder what time? It's not listed as an emergency shelter so it has an open and close time. Some shelters also put people out early and don't let them back until later.

Could it mean they were closed when they got Ellise there?

I didn't realize homeless shelters "closed". You'd think there'd be cameras around the building and inside to verify whether she was ever there. I guess I'm focusing on this because if LE claims they took her there, but she was never there, then that means LE is lying which has other implications I don't want to think about. If, however, it shows they dropped her off and she walked away, that at least gives some hope that she's alive and just having a manic episode.

Oh JMO we are quick to blame the Po Po, but there's an entire world out there that will take advantage. It ain't just 501 that should be held at the highest standards.

Yeah shelters? They ain't hotels. In all fairness there are people that care. In all roles.

Bottom line I hope Ellise's LGBTQT can get together and help. Her mom teared me UP saying she is an ally and "they helped ny child".

Please let Ellise be found. Please! Go from there.

If she really did go to. mental health facility or checkin or DV shelter, I'm not sure her family would know it? Those places arent allowed to disclose if someone is there or not.

Great point. Although I think a shelter may be a bit more lax.

Psyche hospital? No. Although if listed as a missing person they give up the tapes.

Just please let this young lady be somewhere safe! Please!

Even if the family didn't know, wouldn't LE know? (I actually don't know the answer to this question)

Me either.

This is confounding.

Why take her to a homeless shelter if she was having a mental episode? And it still doesn't explain why the shelter said they never saw her...
Not caught up yet so I’m not sure if this has been answered yet, but sometimes free and/or low income services are provided to people in shelters first. Also, shelters do much more than just provide shelter, they provide many different types of services and what they don’t provide themselves, they are often connected to and can assist in setting up medical care, mental health services, employment training, etc.

So that part makes sense to me. But Brooklyn was already seeing a mental health professional and was established with a facility, so I’m unsure why she would need that assistance.
