MI MI - Chelsea Small, 30, Taylor, shot at work (gun silencer used), 12 Nov 2013

Thanks for your great insight @Kell1. Probably not Kohlhepp, but maybe someone just like him ... someone who had a grudge against the finance company, not Chelsea as a person, that's where I'm leaning now. The answer could very well be in the Advance America customer files.

@MntnHiker, me too, I heard about this case from TCG as well.
The posters on this thread have led me to learn about two other cases I didn't know about, so that's Kohlhepp and the 1-70 killer - thank you again to True Crime Garage, they've done Part 1 and 2 episodes on both cases - and as sad as it is, I believe the person who shot Chelsea was just like those two guys .... they get great pleasure out of taking the life of another, and that's all there is to it - and the silencer was used not because he's a hitman, but just so no-one will hear a gunshot.

Re the gravesite vandalism/theft of items,
Chelsea Small, Part 2 Episode 497 TCG at 48.26: "I did see on record where they said they're pretty much - believe they know who saw - who committed that, and they were - the hopes were they could get the items returned" - sounds like it was teenagers, probably picked up on CCTV and LE know who did it. MOO.

If it were a grudge against the company, id feel you'd see something more visual something like burning the place down.

A customer with a grudge would be one of the first things I looked into as an investigator,

This to me looks more like someone who either wanted her dead (to which i feel youd see more overkill, even if this was a professional), with the intention to make it look like a robbery, OR that whomever was told to take whatever then can, or they just decided to see what they could.

Or someone who needed money fast, (perhaps to pay a debt to someone, or feed a dependency etc..) and went in there to get what he could

watching the interaction, (and again I have no idea why they go for these snapshot style security set ups) she presses the alarm almost immediately, which seems to indicate he had the weapon out .

Did he assume she was reaching for a firearm ? possibly

Does anyone know who they're talking about here? I hadn't seen this before, from 2019. Could this be Kohlhepp? If not him, then who, and what's become of this lead? "Police investigate new lead in cold case" - story is dated September 26 2019. Kohlepp was arrested in November 2016.

" .... but now, a new lead, someone they have investigated before is now serving life in prison." "His name did come on our radar a couple of years ago but unfortunately at that time he was not incarcerated, and you know, he was unable to be either eliminated or prosecuted for doing this." "Police said the new lead is the investigation's current focus, but they emphasized they don't want people thinking the case is solved.

It really bothers me that this case, Elizabeth Barraza, and Missy Bevers are all unsolved and all similar.

Something about the shoes (yellow?) bugs me about this guy, they just seem.... cannot find the words, but frivolous oddly comes to mind, they do not fit the rest of his 'outfit', is much known about them, are they boating footwear? speculation, imo. fwiw.

'' It was unclear if the man knew that she had triggered the silent alarm, but he immediately shot Chelsea in the chest.

Chelsea fell to the floor behind the counter after the first shot, obscuring her from the view of the security camera. The man then calmly walked behind the counter and shot her again, this time in the head. He then spent a few seconds rummaging through some drawers and cabinets before making his way over to the cash register. After taking some money from the register, he strolled out of the front door. He had been in the store for just 70 seconds.''
Even for hardened detectives, the footage was hard to watch. The man remained emotionless throughout the entire event; even after he shot and killed Chelsea, there was no sense of urgency in his movements. He seemed confident that she was dead, as he never glanced back towards where her body was.''

''From the start, detectives struggled to understand the motive behind the brutal crime. If the man had simply wanted to rob Advance America, it would have made more sense to keep Chelsea alive; she had access to cash that was kept locked in a safe. By immediately killing her, the man ensured that he was only able to make off with a small amount of money.

Hoping that someone in the area would recognize the man, detectives released the surveillance footage from the day of the murder. It showed a white male, around 5 feet 10 inches tall. He had dark hair and a stocky build, and he was wearing dark pants and a dark shirt with a white T-shirt underneath it. The clothing could have been a work uniform of some kind; the man also had on a dark baseball cap and light-colored shoes.''

''Detective Eric Jones, who took over the case once Det. Schwein retired, was struck by how calm the gunman remained throughout the event. He showed no signs of panicking and no remorse for what he had just done; his movements remained calm and unhurried. Together, the detectives watched the surveillance footage hundreds of times, hoping to see something that might have been missed, some small clue that would lead to the identity of the killer.''

It looks kinda reminiscent of the Dickies logo?
IMHO It's a Detroit tigers hat and the emblem on the side is from when they went to the playoffs / world series. I have the same hat and am from the area if that adds any weight to the statement. Just my opinion of course, but these hats were everywhere at one point in time. This is the hat I'm talking about. There was also a similar postseason hat put out in 2012. This hat was available for purchase just prior to the robbery and murder.

Here's the link for more pics of it

''Chelsea Small’s family and police detectives came together in Taylor, Michigan, to announce a new reward for information that leads to an arrest. And they want people across the country to take a closer look at the video of the killer.
Police say he may have left the state of Michigan, and they are hoping people around the country can help identify him.''

“It’s a completely solvable case,” said Detective Mario Hinojosa, who currently is in charge of the homicide case.

Detectives say they’re now exploring advancements with ballistics and DNA technology.

“We actually reached out to NASA and had some conversations with them as to video of the surrounding area at the time,” Schwein said.''

“There is nothing that we’re aware of that would give us reason to think that she was an intended target,” Schwein said.''

Police say in 2013, it’s believed he was between 35 and 50 years old.

He’s described as between 5-foot-10 and 6 feet tall with a slight curve in his upper back.

He had shoulder length brown hair and was wearing work uniform-style clothing with cargo pants and light colored shoes.

Police say he was extremely proficient with the gun and have considered suspects with security or militia training.

“He arrived and left with a drawstring sport-type backpack that he used to conceal the weapon,” Schwein said.''

“I want people to watch that video. And if you have to watch it 100 times… somebody knows something. This family needs closure and we would like to be able to move on from all of this,” Kamin said.''

''Please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. You can stay anonymous. You can also call the Taylor police at 734-287-6611 if you have any information.''

It was a murder committed in broad daylight and it was caught on camera. Yet, it’s been 10 years and no one has been arrested. Chelsea Small’s family and police detectives came together in Taylor, Michigan, to announce a new reward for information that leads to an arrest. And they want people across the country to take a closer look at the video of the killer.'

“I’m begging you please, please, it’s been 10 years. We need closure on this to help us as a family move on. We have been stuck in 2013 while life has continued to go on,” Small’s mother, Debi Kamen, said at a press conference in 2023.''

''Police said all theories are being considered in this case including the suspect being an avid gun owner who frequents firing ranges, to a security officer, possibly former military, militia, among other possibilities.
“I think she knew him. I felt that from the beginning,” Kamen said.
Police believe someone out there can identify the killer. There is a $65,000 reward being offered for a tip that leads to an arrest in the case.''
