Memorial Day weekend 1985 was rainy and cold, just like this one. 32 years.

I hired into that USPS building shortly before Cindy disappeared. I worked the same shift but didn't know her. I remember thinking it odd that it never got the extended coverage it deserved. I remember they dug up her husbands back yard several times. I would like to share something that happened to me in the summer of the year she disappeared. I was driving home after work down stevenson highway, southbound between 15 and 14 mile. A man in a car pulled up along side me and tried to get me to pull over. He was polite and complimentary but insistant that I pull over to talk to him. After about 90 seconds of his creepiness, I told him I was flattered but I didn't know him and I wasn't a fool. He took off. I should have gotten his plate number but didn't. At that time I looked very much like Cindy. I considered telling the police but there would be little I could tell them. A vague description of the man and car. Plus since Cindy was going to pick up her son, I didn't think she would stop for some creep.

That's a very creepy story and, I think, worth sharing with the police. In fact, I think you should share it with them now. Better late than never.

Cindy was added to Charley Project at the end of April:
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/moore_cindy.html
The Charley Project page includes at least one bit of information that I had never heard before: It says that William Moore covered over his pool soon after Cindy's disappearance. Even though it sounds suspicious, LE apparently dug it up and didn't find anything. I wonder if they dug deep enough. What if he made a hole in the bottom of his pool, buried Cindy under the hole, patched the hole, and then filled in the pool? LE might not have thought to dig deeper than the pool bottom. There was just a case in New York where four murder victims were buried twelve feet deep. I think that LE often fails to dig deep enough when looking for homicide victims.

As soon as I read that it seemed quite alarming.

I hope they bring someone to justice, whether it be her ex or someone unknown to the public. It would be a cold comfort to see the case solved after the perp is dead.

Has anyone ever heard of someone filling in a pool with dirt? Even if Cindy was not buried under the pool, I can't help but wonder whether there were blood stains that he wamted to hide; maybe he hid her body in the pool for a short time.

Note—I just checked my records, and according to a message I received from Rick Retell (Cindy's friend who investigated her disappearance along with Cindy's brother-in-law), Cindy's estranged husband William Moore was questioned several times and even had his backyard dug up.
I have new info on this case if you would like to contact me .

Here are excerpts from an article that appeared in the Detroit News, July 29, 1985
Title: Family holds on to hope vanished woman is alive
By Diane Katz, News Staff Writer

"It's been 67 days since Cindy Moore left her job as a Troy post office, got into her turbocharged tempo and vanished. Like some magician's cruel trick, the 28-year-old Clarkston woman disappeared without explanation, and there are no magic words that will bring her back. So, the 2-year-old son she left behind and her grieving family and friends can do little but wait for Cindy to call or for someone to find her body."

"We all know it's a good possibility that we won't find her alive said Barbara Hicks, who has plastered her daughter's picture on storefront windows throughout Oakland County."

"Lt. Glenn Watson of the [Oakland County] Sheriff's Department has a more pessimistic view. 'We're working under the assumption that she's dead,' he said bluntly."

"What is known is that Cindy left work at 11 p.m. Thursday, May 23, but did not arrive as planned at her estranged husband's Warren home to fetch her son Nicholas."*

"She was last seen by a co-worker who reportedly saw her driving near the intersection of 14 Mile Road and Interstate 75 at about 11:15 p.m. Thursday."

"One week later, Cindy's sporty gray and black 1984 Tempo was found abandoned in the parking lot of the Abbey Theater at I-75 and 14 Mile Road. The doors were locked, the keys were gone and there were no signs of a struggle."

"Inside the Hicks' white colonial Clarkston home, where Cindy sought refuge in January from her failing marriage, the small bedroom she shared with Nicholas is just as she left it."

"Family members flatly deny the possibility that Cindy fled the trappings of a troubled marriage and the demands of motherhood. Her bank balance is intact, none of her clothes are missing and she was devoted to her growing son, they said."

"By all indications, Cindy was ready to lead a more independent life. Her recently filed divorce suit was proceeding smoothly, and in April she made a down payment on a new mobile home in Auburn Hills for herself and Nicholas."
There is so much more to this story then is told here please contact me

I really only know what's in the newspaper article and in Nina's podcast. Several years ago I managed to get in touch with Cindy's friend Rick, but he went incommunicado before I had the chance to learn anything from him; I later learned that he had died.

I encourage you to post your ideas about the case! I don't believe that Cindy left voluntarily, but beyond that I'm stumped.

@Nina Michigan
Did you ever get a reply from Rosy? We're only six months away from the 25-year mark.

So far as I know, Cindy's son has never spoken out about this case. I wonder whether he suspects his father.

Yes, I've been in contact with several people, including the OCSD. It would be nice to bring her home. Also, 35 year mark, not 25 year mark. My how time flies

I'm also now the social media coordinator for the Missing in Michigan Organization. All because of Cindy, Kim, Nikki and Christopher....among others

I'm surprised at myself for making that error!
Thanks for catching it. Time really does fly. It's hard for my brain to process the fact that it's been almost 35 years, apparently.
