It's actually not uncommon for younger people to have that many friends....

Agree. In college, we added anyone and everyone as a friend, even if we met them once at tailgating or a party or shared a class together. As I've gotten older, I find myself removing those ppl I don't know and only accepting people I actually know as a friend or relative.

Working within education I have a pretty locked down profile bc students want to add me or see what they can find out about me (or most of their teachers), so I've started being very selective and more aware of what I post and who I add.

<modsnip>

I have been following this case since day 1 and it's consumed my every thought. I hope she's found soon.

A good and complete system for a complex that large would not be cheap. If it's Section 8 housing (anyone know?) government subsidized, they aren't making a lot of money. My guess is the $50K could be to assuage guilt / avoid a lawsuit.

Not having cameras at the gas station in Jessica Heeringa's case ruined the owner. Along with having one lone female to close at night ... always a bad idea.

They are not Section 8 housing. The company that owns the complex, Hayman Company, is based in Southfield but owns complexes and commercial real estate all over the country. They acquired IGA shortly before I moved here in 2014 and have been making upgrades to the complex since.

There's conflicting info out there, some of it dated or just wrong. But reading the actual statutes and related regulations, Michigan doesn't require any sort of licensing for unarmed private security guards. The owner of the security guard service might want to get a license tho. Doesn't sound like that's even mandatory absent involvement with "armed" security.

If the security guard carries a "pistol" [statute actually says "pistol", written decades ago, still law of the land tho], then they do need to have some sort of related license--and that trips more requirements. "Pistol" makes me wonder if they give em a shotgun, do they have to have a license. Weird.

I didn't think run of the mill, unarmed security guards in Mich needed licensing. Apparently, the state of mi these days won't even accept fingerprints and requests for background checks for these individuals. Huh. Something about federal regulations. They leave it up to the discretion of the individual employers/security guard companies.

That makes sense, as a lot of these security companies end up hiring a lot of people short-term for events and such and they're not armed. Mostly hired to wear a wind-breaker that says 'SECURITY' and stand around watching people or whatever.

Maybe someone here has actual experience getting hired on to be a security guard in Michigan, armed or unarmed.
Sort of off topic here but a few years back I went out to Arizona for a few months. Saw an add for work as a security guard (specifically for music events, which is the only reason it caught my eye) Went in for quick interview, filled out a few pages of paperwork and within 2 days found myself guarding right center stage at a B.B. King concert. Completely surreal. That was the only thing I did with them, never even went back to pick up my paycheck. Anyhow, my little point here is, there are so many kinds of security companies it seems. I guess it sort of depends on the owner or people who run it as to how strict they are with what and with who ect. I never even thought of different state statutes in regard to this type of thing but it makes complete sense. Some security companies may be super strict others may be more lax. I'd imagine though that certain personality types who work for these type of companies might develop a kind of ego due to the authority like aspect of the position.

And yes, I actually did feel super cool with that security jacket on... but that's only because of who I was guarding :-)

The family posted that they encourage people to share info on Linkedin, but I can't find anything that has been posted/shared on there. Does anyone use the site and have any idea how to locate what has been passed around specifically on there?
Edit: I think I misread the post. It just says 'reached out to Linkedin contacts"...so guess that answers that... :)

Yeah those were the days.. and you could opt out of being listed if you wanted to, all you had to do was call the phone company. Ha, I just remembered these terms as i was typing... your number and address was either deemed as "listed" or "unlisted" back then. Now.. forget it, we live in the twilight zone with no option for privacy in this day and age.

Just noticed her GoFundMe was updated

12/27/2016 Update:

Due to the overwhelming success of this campaign, we have decided, along with the Farmington Hills Police Department, and the Stislicki family to put a cap on the reward amount.

The reward from this campaign is now $29,000. The campaign will remain open, however any money collected beyond the $29,000 cap, will go toward other efforts to find Danielle.

With the generous rewards offered by MetLife, and Independence Green Apartments, the total reward amount is now $129,000.

Thank you to everyone for your generosity. Let's #finddani.
Thanks for posting this info! Very smart thing to do. Glad to hear this as it tied into so many various articles I read over the summer where different LE explained the pros, cons, and warnings when reward money is offered. Their words always stuck with me in regard to future crimes that could pertain to a matter like that.

Newbie here, I actually joined this site to read more about Zuzu Verk missing in TX, and somehow I got lured into Danielle's story which I haven't been able to stop thinking about. I'm not even sure if I'm posting/responding the correct way!

The one thing I noticed from the beginning of the investigation is obviously how tight lipped family and LE have been, how they didn't want any searches, and how there's not much new information coming in daily. IMO I think they are capping the reward because I think she's been taken and is being held against her will in order for someone to collect the reward. If the reward keeps increasing, why wouldn't they hold on to her until they think it's capped out? I truly believe she's out there somewhere...alive, and (someone else mentioned this) on the FDS page, there is a lot of talk about the backpages for different cities.

Why wouldn't you go out of the house and search for her? The only plausible reason in my opinion is because they have reason to believe her body hasn't been disposed of (I hated typing that). Maybe she is part of a nationwide, or much larger scale trafficking investigation and that's why they're so hesitant to release information.

Just my two cents.
Welcome, great first post. A few threads ago we had a poster, MichiganPI (cant remember if that was the right name) who was adamant that trafficking was a real possibility and that trafficking is a much bigger problem in Michigan than anyone was realizing. He never became Verified... I believed him, not sure if others did. Unfortunately he stopped posting but its still a theory we certainly cant dispose of yet.

I can't remember other cases we have followed where apt complex has security cams. Do apt complexes have security cams?
No, I honestly don't thinks that's common, at all. The only places Id expect camera surveillance would in a gated type of living community, and it would probably only be at the gate, not in every parking lot.

You are correct human trafficking is a huge problem here in MI. I do believe that other poster was correct in saying MI is like 2nd or 3rd in nation. Close to Chicago and close to Canada.

Yes, Michigan is second to Nevada statistically. It's our close proximity to Canada and our waterways.

Yes, just found that data. Thanks! Although it is usually younger girls. Praying for her safe return, Holocene. Do you have any updates? I assume nothing more than we know. My heart is breaking for her and her family.

Unfortunately I have nothing new, no. I feel like waiting is all there is anymore. I certainly hope LE will update again soon, but I'm not so sure.

I was hoping for an update this Friday. It will be four weeks since Danielle's disappearance.

I was just in downtown Plymouth, MI for dinner. For the non locals this is a very popular area with a lot of foot traffic. There were "find Danielle" fliers on every business. People are getting the word out. Her family and friends are doing a great job. God I hope it results in closure soon.

IG is not a section 8 facility

This place has received some pretty negative reviews from tenants. It's also made the news a few times for serious crimes on the property.

I looked up apartment reviews for the IDG apartments where DS lived. Based on some reviews it seems this place has it share of crime related incidents .

One tenant review from 1-3-16 included this statement " the clincher is that this is the murder capital of apt complexes in this area "

Regarding the link to the Berkley home- I think its possible that prints and DNA recovered from inside DS apartment could have came back to someone with a criminal history. The name could have somehow linked to the Berkley house. Doesn't mean the homeowner is necessarily a POI it could be that LE is looking into other residents ( i.e. ) a guest / renter or is related to the homeowner.

I just thought of something. Maybe the reason they think she might be alive is due to the Go fund me guys posts about seeing her in downtown Detroit. Maybe the POI was a security guard down there and DS went and met him down there. Most people I know here in Michigan don't go downtown unless there is a sporting event or they work there. Being a white female walking around downtown Detroit isn't safe at night. Maybe LE has her on a camera somewhere down there. The thing is what would she have been down there for? Why would she meet him down there? I don't know... I'm just thinking this could be one way they got to be around each other...

I think looking at a couple of different factors here, its becoming more and more clear to me that this incident is drug-related. I don't want to get into trouble for saying that, but certain things about this case are too glaring too ignore.
1) TWELVE agencies in on this case almost immediately, including the DEA. As in Drug enforcement agency, among a ton of other agencies. For a couple of those agencies you can convince that they get involved for any missing person incident, etc. But the DEA being involved is pretty clear.
2) I've read that DS either used Burner phones at one time, or even that her current phone may have been some type of burner phone. I'm sorry, but Burner phones are used for a reason. They just are. Saying that she "just kind of liked using them" doesnt cut it.
3) The frightening efficiency with which this crime took place. If dangerous people/groups with a lot at stake are wronged or threatened, betrayed, snitched on, etc, they have people that handle these situations, and unfortunately are good at what they do.
It feels very likely to me that DS may have gotten in over her head here. I don't want to get into trouble for posting this, and I'm really not trying to victim blame. For all I know, she was working as an informant to help take down a drug network, which would be noble, but also ridiculously dangerous. Why would she be informing on a drug network? Maybe LE had something minor on her and this seemed like an easy way to get a free pass. This also explains LE being so quiet on the case. If this really is a big-time Drug bust/or even Drug Cartel type situation...they're not going to compromise that situation or potentially put other people in danger. It also may also explain the need to have posted hefty rewards and things like that...because perhaps people in that line of work have a reputation of turning on their friends for a quick buck. Here are a couple examples of somewhat recent MSM stories of major drug related activity in the area
-http://www.theoaklandpress.com/general-news/20160302/seven-arrested-in-big-drug-bust-in-southeast-michigan
-http://www.candgnews.com/news/warren-police-dea-arrest-five-‘drug-cartel’-raid-93837
Look, someone does not have to be an evil kingpin to get just a little too close to this world and get bitten by it. These cases are incredibly sensitive and dangerous. The quiet nature of LE, the fact that they seem to know what generally happened with a complete lack of interest in ground searches, the 12 agencies including the freaking DEA, all points to this. If anyone disagrees, thats fine, but I would really ask them to just please explain why the DEA would be involved in a simple case of creepy stalker/abduction...when a case like that would have nothing to do with them. I would surmise that some of these agencies were ALREADY on the case before DS went missing. When she did go missing, that just threw a big wrench into the investigation, while at same time adding a different element to it.
