Mystery as body is found in ventilation system of Michigan community college's performing arts center after students complained of a 'foul odor'

  • Jason Thompson, 36, vanished from his sisters home in Detroit on October 25
  • His body was found in a vent at Macomb College theatre on Sunday evening
  • Eerie footage showed him leaving his sister's home on the day he disappeared
  • A month-long search for a missing father of two is over after his decomposing body was found inside the ventilation system of a Michigancommunity college theatre.

Police were called to Macomb Community College in Detroit after staff realized the odor permeating the school's performing arts center might have a sinister cause.

They traced the smell to a vent where they found the body of Jason Thompson, 36, who had vanished from his sister Shelby's apartment less than a mile away on October 25.

Oh wow, they identified this unfortunate victim quickly. I wonder if he had any ties to the building where he was found or was living somewhat transient?

May his family be surrounded by love and support right now. Imagine how they must feel.

Thompson was not affiliated with the school, college spokesperson Jeanne M. Nicol said. She could not say how he got access to the performing arts building because the investigation is ongoing.

It’s a shame there is no missing Persons thread for Jason.
Just to add some details of Jason’s disappearance from his sister. Jason going missing is completely out of character, never once has he gone more than 48 hours without contacting family.

My brother was last seen leaving my apartment near Hall and Schoenherr Wednesday October 25 at 5:41 PM. He was wearing black pants, adidas shoes and a black hoodie. 6 foot, skinny build, with black dyed hair.

He was supposedly last heard from via text message around 9:40 PM. His phone died or was shut off and has not been turned back on since.

Police said they don’t suspect foul play, NBC News reported.

The Detroit Free Press reported that the investigation is ongoing, “with the goal to understand the circumstances,” police chief William Leavens said.

They did not say how Thompson got into the ventilation system or how long he had been there.

The Macomb County medical examiner’s office is trying to determine a cause of death.

*I just saw this news. Very first thought was Harley Dilly. ❤️

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A timeline was released by officials about the man who was found inside the ventilation system of a building on Macomb Community College’s campus in Clinton Township.

Macomb Community College’s Clinton Township campus closed its performing arts center and shifted some classes to other locations to perform cleaning of the college’s HVAC system after the body of a 36-year-old man was found in the system, a college spokesperson said.

The body of Jason Thompson, a Clinton Township resident, was found Sunday night after relatives said he had been missing since late October.

The News reported Wednesday that Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office completed an autopsy and ruled Thompson's cause of death an accident. Thompson was asphyxiated after he became trapped in the HVAC system, said Casimir Miarka, the administrator for the Medical Examiner's Office...

Macomb County resident Jason Thompson believed he was fleeing the police.

The 36-year-old father of two had a long history of run-ins with law enforcement dating back over 15 years and served more than eight years in prison. He had at least one outstanding warrant for his arrest when he told his girlfriend he feared he was being pursued by police in late October. She and his family members didn't hear from him again.

Clinton Township — The Macomb Community College Police Department has completed its investigation into the death of a 36-year-old Clinton Township man who was found in the college's ventilation system last November, as the medical examiner confirmed that the death was accidental.

College spokesperson Jeanne Nicol said the medical examiner's final report on the death of Jason Thompson showed both fentanyl and methamphetamines in his system. The report confirmed the examiner's preliminary finding last November of an accidental death "caused by asphyxia due to entrapment and environmental suffocation," Nicol said.

She said the case closed Monday, and no further action is being taken...
