Circumstances of Recovery: Workers with the Department of Public Works responded to calls from residents in a neighborhood on the east side of Detroit reporting a clogged sewer drain. When the workers began clearing the drain, located at the rear of 13021 E. Forest, they discovered a pair of legs in a plastic bag and alerted the police. Further dredging of the drain located the head, which an autopsy later revealed contained a bullet wound.

The head and two legs of a badly decomposed body were taken from a sewer Friday at the rear of 13021 E. Forest.
Police were called when DPW employes, working to clear the sewer which neighbors reported had flooded in Wednesday's rain, discovered a plastic bag containing the legs. Further dredging resulted in discovery of the head.
Police said the remains were too badly decomposed to immediately determine sex or race.
