Doctor facing sex charges missing, left home with rifle, police say

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - A Grand Rapids-area doctor accused of inappropriately touching patients is missing and reportedly suicidal, police said.

Dr. Steven Edward Scranton, 65, left his Cannon Township home on Wednesday, April 25, with a rifle. He was driving a gray 2015 Dodge Ram Longhorn, a four-door truck with an extended cab.

The license plate is DHM5056, Kent County sheriff's deputies said.

Police are asking the public's help finding him.

"We do not believe he has the intent to harm anyone else, but he did leave his home with a rifle so we ask anyone that locates him or his vehicle to call their local police agency to investigate further," a sheriff's detective said.

Scranton was last seen wearing a gray North Face jacket and blue denims.

Missing doctor facing charges found dead

CANNON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The body of a missing doctor who was facing criminal sexual assault charges was found in Montcalm County.

Authorities said foul play isn’t suspected at this time.

Scranton was charged with criminal sexual conduct involving some of his patients in January. His license was suspended a month later.

He was out on bond awaiting trial when he disappeared from his Cannon Township home Wednesday night. At the time, investigators said he was suicidal and they had tried “traditional investigative techniques” to find him without success.
