FATHER FOUND GUILTY

The judge's decision came with an unexpected twist. She found Nicholson guilty of second-degree murder in Johnathan's death because she believed he did not mean to kill him, but was trying to stop the baby from crying and lost control.

However, the judge said after Nicholson killed Johnathan, it appeared he then turned his sights on baby Ella in an effort to cover up what he had done, which is why in regards to Ella he was found guilty of first-degree murder.

Nicholson will be sentenced on May 13.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Vera Massey-Jones sentenced Steven Lyn Nicholson, 27, to life in prison without parole for first-degree felony murder, 25 years for second-degree murder and one to 15 years for first-degree child abuse.
