Wowza. Twistars coach John Geddert required his female gymnasts to see only Nassar for their injuries, but the male gymnasts could see any doctor they wanted. Geddert and Nassar had a 'best friends' relationship.

Larry Nassar is serving a total of 235 years in prison. I expect Eaton County to be harsh on Nassar.

Nassar victims bring fight to Washington

Several victims of former sports physician Larry Nassar will be in Washington on Tuesday to meet with representatives and senators. They will be joined by Nancy Hogshead-Makar, a former U.S. Olympian turned lawyer and advocate for sexual abuse victims. The group is pushing for more action and investigation into how USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic Committee handled the Nassar case.

Lawmakers also are asking for further investigation and want Congress to begin a probe. Hogshead-Makar said if those congressional investigations start it will be an eye-opener for a lot of people.

The sentencing is expected to begin Jan. 31 in Eaton County. He faces a minimum of 25 years in prison. The sentencing was supposed to last just one day, but now more victims have come forward.

The sentencing is now expected to last three or four days.

The House passed a bill on Monday night that protects amateur athletes from sexual abuse by enforcing mandatory reporting regulations and extending the statute of limitations for child victims.

The bill, which was sponsored by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), came up for a vote one week after Larry Nassar was sentenced in what was the largest sexual abuse scandal in sports history. Congress agreed to use the Senate’s version of the bill to speed up its passage; it passed with a vote of 406-3. It just needs President Donald Trump’s signature to be made into law.

Both institutions and Nassar already face state and federal lawsuits from some 140 victims, and, if successful through a settlement or ruling, the university or USAG could be on the hook for millions of dollars. (MSU has tried to dismiss the victims’ lawsuits, arguing that they retain “immunity from liability” for Nassar’s actions as a state institution. It remains to be seen if that claim will hold up.
