Man pleads guilty to 6 murders in Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo – A man charged with killing six strangers between picking up rides for Uber pleaded guilty to murder on Monday in Michigan.

Jason Dalton’s surprise move occurred as lawyers and a judge planned to pick a jury in Kalamazoo County court. There was no deal for Dalton: He pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder, and he faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison with no chance for parole.

• The first shooting occurred at the Meadows Townhomes complex, 5066 Meadows Blvd. around 6 p.m. There, a woman was shot in the parking lot. She is in serious condition.

• A second shooting occurred at Seelye Ford, 4102 Stadium Drive, shortly before 10:30 p.m., where two people were shot and killed in the parking lot. The two killed at the dealership were both male, and are believed to be a father and son who were looking at a vehicle, Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley told WWMT.

• Around 10:30 p.m., four people were shot and killed in vehicles in the parking lot of Cracker Barrel, 5581 Cracker Barrel Blvd., off of 9th Street in Texas Township. Another person, a 14-year-old girl, was critically injured at later died at a local hospital.

Note: The 14-year old girl is in critical condition, but still alive.
