MI - Gunman opens fire at Central Michigan Univ., kills parents James Davis Sr. & Diva Davis, 2018

Not clear on whether he brought the gun to the dorm when arriving from the hospital or did he go back out to the lot and get the gun after going to the dorm with his parents?

From what I understand, he was loading his things into his parents car. I presume father left the gun in his car. So I am assuming he got the gun out of his parents car and went and shot them both.

Okay, that is making sense to explain how he entered the building with the gun and his parents were already in the dorm room. Thanks for clearing that up.

Begs the question...did he intend to kill them or did he see the gun and then decide??

Central Michigan University officers had multiple run ins with shooting suspect
by Chelsea Bailey

Central Michigan University campus police officers said Saturday that they had multiple encounters with the student accused of shooting and killing his parents in a campus dormitory.

Police arrested James Davis, Jr., shortly after midnight Saturday along railroad tracks near the campus, ending a daylong manhunt for the 19-year-old suspect...

Yeagley also revealed that campus police officers had encountered Davis multiple times in the 24-hours leading up to Friday's shooting.

On Thursday morning, Yeagley said Davis "ran into the office of our community policing officer very frightened."

"He said someone was out to hurt him, someone was out to harm him," Yeagley said, adding that when officers pressed Davis for more details, he was "extremely vague." ...

These contiinuing issues with people ( obviouus to us in hindsight ), must not be so easy to ID,The Parkland killer. The killer in Florida. He was shooting people on the street over a period of time. Elliot Rogers.

On and on. With multiple experts witnessing erratic or threatening behavior, it must not be that easy to diagnose.

I know from kids in residential treatment, that they present all kinds of troubling behavior but they rarely go to the danger zone.

It can be that experts see so much troubling behavior that is is all in a day’s work and nothing stands out as danger.

I think, and strictly MOO based on my experience, is that he saw the gun, and already thinking people were out to get him grabbed it as protection from "the people." That's what my ex did. He saw a baseball bat in my garage (I like to play) and decided that was a viable weapon against "the people."

This does NOT mean the person is in their right mind. Now, if they didn't send him out to the car, than that's a different story.

It seems plausible, except he knew to run away. Why did he do that if he thought what he did was OK? Or were more people out to get him?

Or maybe he knew the gun was in the car since they picked him up and went back to get it for protection. Who knows what was going on in his head at the time. His parents had given him a ride, so maybe he had already seen the gun, got super paranoid in the room for whatever reason and went back out.

[police chief Yeagley] He said the gun used in the shooting belonged to Davis’ father, James Davis Sr., a part-time police officer in the Chicago suburb of Bellwood.
Yeagley would not say whether the father had brought the gun to the university’s campus in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, when picking up his son, but he noted that Davis Jr. can be seen on video in the dorm’s parking lot with the gun before he entered the residence hall where his parents were shot around 8:30 a.m.

He declined to say whether drugs were found in Davis Jr.’s system. He also would not say what type of gun was used or whether it was Davis Sr.’s service revolver. But he did say that it would have been a violation of campus policy for Davis Sr. to bring a gun on campus because only law enforcement on active duty or those with special permission can do so.

Yeagley said Davis Jr. was under guard at a hospital Saturday and would be moved to the Isabella County jail when he’s discharged.

There is the huge problem where parents do not consider their child to ever have a problem using guns against someone.

Also read he was hypothermic. What was weather like in the area that day, while he was evading capture?

The weather would not have been bad, around 40s with sunshine. The snow has melted. I would imagin at night the temps would have started dropping maybe 20s, so he may have been glad to get caught around midnight.

If he solution to be safe from people was to run away, why didn't he just do that to begin with? As it appears now, he went to the car, got the gun, went back in and shot and killed both parents.

That said, the winter has been VERY COLD, and brutal here in west mi this year. When it wasn't snowing, it was raining. So the last week or so, it was nice to finally see the sun for a change.

That I don't know. I'm sorry Jenny.

I can't really explain either, but if this was a true break, you tend to assign values. He thought some person on campus was out to get him, that was proved wrong.

Maybe in the car ride back he thought his parents were out to get him, like my ex did with me. It's like getting stuck...that's your only focus. You try and get rid of those people first because they are the most scary. If you have a weapon you fight them off. Then you hide from the other "people". They are always there.

He never really left campus like I said he wouldn't, or didn't seem to. I think he was in hiding somewhere....maybe from other "people". It's really hard to explain if you've never witnessed a psychotic break, and I hope you never have to. There is no logical thought process that goes into it at all. You're just getting rid of the evil you see at that time. Usually that happens to be what is closest to you...if that makes any sense at all.

Do you think it was because he got some drugs that did it?

note angry Davis, jr in 4 year old photo.

I think LE was correct that this was an 'ongoing' domestic problem within the family. His mom agreed w/ LE that his
strange behavior was drug related. He had been going in this direction of irresponsibility and repeated drug use for
some time. His father being a cop, military, straight-laced was an authoritarian parent, take no prisoner type.

If you saw his twitter photos/comments- he was a wanna-be-gangster. Doing drugs and flashing gang symbols are
all Red Flags and not signs of a 'respectful' young man. As he aged he was becoming increasingly angrier and resistant
to his parents strong guidance. He did not want to be what they wanted him to be. He was a young man on a descending path into being a hood rat. And his mom and dad hung on trying to 'straighten him out.' JMHO.

Maybe on the way from the hospital to the dorm, the parents were saying things to him that started to set him off in his mind. Talking about the hospital, getting his stuff and going home, what he should look forward to for the next week of spring break at home, “poor choices” , that they would be talking about his behavior lately, etc?

I went to CMU and stayed in those dorms. The railroad tracks are right outside and often trains would make us late for class because we had to wait for them to go by in order to pass over to the classroom buildings. If he did hop on a train, where was he for almost 12+ hours? Unless he went and hid somewhere and then hopped on a train late at night in the dark to try and get farther away and that’s when he was spotted?

Was it reported that the train was acually moving, or was he hiding in one of the non-moving train cars all day?

Last I read, he was spotted on side of tracks, just standing,, alone. someone on train reported him.

Note- he was shedding some clothes as he ran away from dorm- another symptom of mj laced w/ pcp.

interesting article which perfectly describes symptoms of mj w/ pcp. sounds just like jr.'s reaction.
