Federal prosecutors have dropped charges against the brother of Carlos Vance Watts Jr., who is accused of killing missing girlfriend, Heather Kelley.

Watts, 39, was recently charged with open murder in Kelley’s killing. The body of the Portage woman, who went missing Dec. 11, 2022, has not been found.

• The diameter of the screwdriver was consistent with the hole in the driver's window of Kelley's vehicle.

Murder cases without bodies are more challenging, Huber said, but not altogether unusual. There are 604 known cases in the U.S., including 36 that have gone to trial in Michigan.

Killers who successfully dispose of a body should not be rewarded, Huber said.

She argued that Watts was a jealous, controlling boyfriend who tracked Kelley. Witnesses called it a toxic relationship. They say he even forced her to leave her phone on while she slept so he could watch to make sure she wasn’t with someone else.

I love a prosecutor who’s not afraid to bring a no body case to trial! It sounds like they have plenty of compelling evidence, but I’m so sorry the kids had to testify, especially right before Christmas.

Court documents show the two had a rough relationship and that Watts was described as controlling and possessive.

According to records, Watts Jr was "controlling and routinely accused Heather [Kelley] of cheating on him," demanded to watch her sleep via video chats, and contacted her children to spy on her.

He also reportedly made statements about hitting Kelley, saying he would like to put his hands on her and, in response to a text on Nov. 8, 2022, "you make me want to hit you," documents detailed.

In addition, a family member told investigators on Oct. 27, 2022 that, after an argument with Watts Jr, Kelley had asked to stay with them because Watts Jr threatened to slit her throat.

I just don’t understand these men that are insanely jealous. Why kill the thing you purport to love more than life…I have always believed the insane jealousy comes from projection. They are projecting onto the woman what they would be doing if she were not around. So they instantly ‘know’ she would be cheating since that’s what they want to do. A bit of it is ownership of another human being too. Yet even when these men have the woman literally there in front of them 24/7 they treat them awful. They are suspicious of everything. The woman treats them good…they are suspicious. The woman treats them bad…they are suspicious. She is indifferent…they are suspicious.

You can always tell who is guilty in these cases involving husbands/wasbands/boyfriends and exes…the female disappears and this fellow who couldn’t live without her who literally called her a hundred times a day demanding to know her every move suddenly is over it and just don’t care. He’s not blowing up her phone demanding to know where she is…where is she hiding from him which is what most normal people would think if a female disappears after being threatened. He’s not calling her family demanding to know where she is and where they are hiding her. Nope because he knows where she is. These guys think they are smart. They are wrong.

The 8 children all have the same father.

Bringing forward a link from post #26 to a video interview with the paternal grandfather of the children. He states that his son and Kelley were never married, but were together for 15 years. They broke up 2 years before she went missing.
