DETROIT - The suspect in the disappearance of a 4-year-old girl and her mother has been charged with murder Tuesday.
Marcus Tyrone Hightower, 34, of Detroit, has been charged in the deaths of 4-year-old Savannah Walker and her 39-year-old mother Heidi Walker.
Hightower was charged with two counts of first degree murder and one count of felony murder, first-degree child abuse, unlawful imprisonment and third-degree arson.
An Amber Alert was issued early Saturday morning for Savannah, who along with her mother, had been missing since Tuesday.
Hours later, their bodies were discovered in a torched home on Detroit’s east side.

Hightower turned himself in to police Sunday morning. He was the last person seen with the two women, according to police.

Heidi Walker's older daughter detailed a history of abuse between her mother and Hightower.

Police confirmed there was a history of domestic abuse.

Hightower has a history of criminal violence and is on parole for assault with intent to commit murder.

He was arraigned Tuesday and remanded to jail.

The prosecutor’s office on Tuesday night said the bodies police found Saturday in a burned-out home on Lakeview near Forest were those of Heidi Walker, 39, and Savannah Walker, 4, both of Detroit. The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office, however, said Tuesday night that the second body had not yet been positively identified, and DNA results were pending.

Despite the lack of DNA ID, they feel confident enough that this is Savannah, they have charged the perp with her murder and have positively ID'd the adult female found with her as Heidi.

The Detroit man charged with the grisly murders of a mom and her 4-year-old daughter allegedly told acquaintances horrific details about how he killed them before placing their bodies in the basement of an abandoned eastside home...

Gibson admitted he did not contact police about what Hightower allegedly told him. He said Hightower was carrying an AK-47 and a 9mm when he told him about the deaths.

Gibson said Hightower told another man, identified as Hightower’s brother, about the murders, but that he was looking to kill that man because he believed he told someone about the killings.

This prelim will continue on August 3.

A Detroit man accused of killing a Livingston County woman and her 4-year-old daughter will head to trial on murder charges.

The Wayne County prosecutor’s office added a criminal sexual conduct theory to the felony murder charge against Marcus Wayne Hightower following a two-day preliminary exam that concluded Aug. 3.

No new court dates are available.

Hightower is charged with two counts of first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder, first-degree child abuse, unlawful imprisonment and third-degree arson in connection with the deaths of Heidi Walker, 39, and her daughter, Savannah Walker.

Marcus Hightower is expected to spend 50 to 75 years in prison for murdering Heidi Walker and her 4-year-old daughter, Savannah.

The sentence is part of a plea agreement with prosecutors that had Hightower, 34, pleading guilty to two counts of Second Degree Murder and Arson.

Hightower will be sentenced on November 30.

A Detroit man was sentenced Wednesday in the killing of his girlfriend and her four-year-old daughter.

The victim's family doesn't think the sentence fits the crime.

Marcus Hightower was given 50 to 75 years in prison.

"I think he should have gotten life. I don't think he should be eligible for parole in 50 years, but that doesn't mean he's going to get out," Holly Cauchi said.

Hightower will be 85 years old when he is eligible for parole after serving the minimum 50-year sentence.
