Prosecutors say 18-year-old Kevin Dixon got into an argument with his girlfriend, 20-year-old India Mackey, around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday inside a van in the driveway of his Warren, Mich., home.

Mackey recorded cell phone video of Dixon as he pointed a black handgun at her, threatened her and loaded bullets into the gun, according to police.

“This video is being taken by a woman who’s going to be killed in moments. It’s unbelievable to me,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith. “The last thing her family has of her is the video where she is pointing the camera at the man who’s going to kill her.”

Dixon told Detroit PD officers at one point that Mackey shot herself at his residence in Warren," he says, reading from a police report. "Dixon said he touched the trigger, and then quote 'going off.'"

That's when outbursts came from outside the courtroom when Dixon's mom showed up. Her arrest stems back to a phone call made by Dixon in the back of the patrol car.

"He's on the phone talking to his mother, clearly identifying his mother and telling her to go to the house, and get rid of the gun. So she went to the house and we've charged her with accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence," said Smith.

WARREN — India Elise Mackey was fatally shot in a van parked in a Warren neighborhood on Nov. 19. Investigators said she recorded her alleged killer with her phone a short time before the shot was fired.

Dunn declined to offer further comment on the case after the hearing in front of Judge Matthew Sabaugh. Dixon was ordered held in the Macomb County Jail without bond ahead of the rescheduled court date, now set for Jan. 16. He faces up to life in prison if convicted of first-degree murder.

After Dixon’s hearing was adjourned, the judge heard from attorneys in the case filed against his mother, Nikita Lanise Dixon, 42. She stands accused of tampering with evidence and accessory after the fact to a felony. The charges were brought as a result of the Warren Police Department investigation into the shooting, and Nikita Dixon was taken into custody at the courthouse before her son’s arraignment on Nov. 21. She faces up to five years in prison.

Her attorney, Byron Pitts, declined to comment on the case. Sabaugh did agree to lower her bail amount from $100,000 cash to $25,000, but Nikita Dixon would be required to wear a GPS tether if she is released before her next court date, also on Jan. 16.
